The purpose of this study was to test whether adhesive taping therapy, one of rehabilitation, helps to relieve chronic low back pain. Sample were selected from 35 outpatients at oriental medicine hospital in the period from April 20 to June 20, 1998. The research design was one-group pretest - posttest design. The pretest included measuring discomfort depending on the scope and types of a range of motion, and their pain by their activity of daily living(ADL). In this research design, a treatment was to expose adhesive taping therapy to samples. The posttest included remeasuring of their discomfort and pain by ADL. The results of this study was as follows: Hypothesis I was that the discomfort score of the post-treatment group had lower than does that of the pre-treatment group. This study accepted the hypothesis (t=2.70, p=.015). Hypothesis II was that the post-treatment group had the pain score by ADL lower than does the pre-treatment group. Empirical results showed statistical significance(t=4.53, p=.000). In summary, the effect measured by the discomfort with a visual analog scale was statistically significant. The degree of pain according to postures in ADL also showed statistical significance. Consequently, these findings showed that the adhesive taping therapy was effective to alleviation of chronic low back pain.
Background: This study investigated the effect of erector spinae and quadratus lumbar kinesio taping and support surface conditions on abdominal muscle activity during plank exercise. Design: Within-Group design. Methods: A total of twenty-three healthy men and women participated in this study. Abdominal muscle (both external obliques and internal oblique muscle) contraction was analyzed through EMG measurement with the presence or absence of kinesio taping applied to the erector spinae muscle and quadratus lumborum muscle during plank exercise and the difference between the support surfaces (stable surface and unstable surface) as variables. Abdominal EMG was attached to the right external oblique, left external oblique, right internal oblique, and left internal oblique. Results: The results showed that Abdominal left and right external obliques and internal obliques showed significant increases in activity when kinesio taping was applied to the erector spinae and quadratus lumborum muscles and unstable ground (p<0.05). Conclusion: In this study, we confirmed that the activity of the abdominal muscles was significantly increased during the plank operation in the state where the kinesio tape was attached. In addition, it was confirmed that the activity of the abdominal muscles was significantly increased during the plank operation on the unstable surface. These results suggest that in the state of kinesio tape attached and instability, plank motion has a positive effect on abdominal muscle activity.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate changes in ankle muscle strength, range of motion (ROM) dorsiflexion, and gastrocnemius flexibility following gastrocnemius stretching with talus stability taping in subjects with limited ankle dorsiflexion. Methods: Fifteen subjects (all males) with limited ankle dorsiflexion participated in this study for six weeks. Ankle muscle strength, ankle passive dorsiflexion ROM, and gastrocnemius flexibility were assessed pre- and post-intervention. Results: Ankle dorsiflexion and plantarflexion strength and passive ankle dorsiflexion ROM were significantly increased post-intervention compared to pre-intervention (p < 0.05). Gastrocnemius flexibility was significantly improved post-intervention compared to pre-intervention (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Gastrocnemius stretching with talus stability taping can be recommended for subjects with limited ankle dorsiflexion to increase passive ankle dorsiflexion, flexibility, and ankle muscle strength.
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of kinesio taping on the pain and functional improvement of patients with degenerative arthritis. 40 female patients were participated in this study. To evaluate the effects of taping therapy we calculated pain, range of motion, and get up and go(GUG) test. The results were as follow: Pain of experimental and control group were significantly decreased after than before treatment, but there was significant difference between experimental and control group. ROM of experimental and control group were significantly increased after than before treatment, but there was significant difference between experimental and control group. Time of GUG of experimental and control group were significantly decreased after than before treatment, but there was significant difference between experimental and control group. And Steps of GUG was significantly decreased only experimental group. So we think that kinesio taping have effectiveness on the pain and functional improvement in patients with degenerative arthritis.

This study determines the effect of 3D compression pants and Kinesio taping on muscular function of the leg during knee joint flexion and extension. Eight males participated in the experiment, wearing basic pants (BP), Kinesio taping on bare skin (KT), 3D compression pants with (KTP) and without Kinesio taping (CP). The test protocol for isokinetic muscular function was composed of four sets at three angular velocities (60, 180, $240^{\circ}/sec$) using Cybex 660. Peak torque and work per repetition of the lower limbs of eight males were analyzed from the result of Cybex. Agility and power of the subjects were examined from side step and sergeant jump. Peak torque, average power, work per repetition, force decay time of subjects wearing CP and KTP were significantly better than BP or KT, especially at low angular velocity of $60^{\circ}/sec$. The time to generate peak torque of subjects wearing BP was the longest, while the force-decay time of BP was the shortest. The application of Kinesio tape on skin did not increase muscle peak torque, work and power, but did shorten the time to generate peak torque.
Purpose: This study investigated the effect of taping therapy on metacarpophalangeal (MCP) disorders of the thumb. Methods: Twenty eight patients were enrolled in this study. They were randomly assigned to experimental (n=16) or a control group (n=12). The experimental and control groups received Ultrasound (Gymna Pulson 200) operating at a frequency of 3MHz and an intensity of $1.0W/cm^2$ with a 100% duty cycle for 10 minutes. The experimental group received, additionally, taping using Kinesiotape on the injured thumb. The following parameters were measured:pain during rest and flexion of the thumb, tenderness, range of motion (ROM), pinch and spherical grip power pre- and post-treatment. This study was carried out 3 days per week throughout the 2-week treatment. Results: There were significant improvements in pain during rest and flexion of the thumb, tenderness, ROM, pinch and spherical grip power between pre- and post-treatment times in both groups (p<0.05). However, there was a significant difference in all parameters between the experimental and control groups (p<0.05). Finally, the satisfaction level after intervention was significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Taping is effective for treating pain and dysfunction in patients with thumb disorders.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of talus stability taping during gastrocnemius stretching on ankle passive dorsiflexion, talus posterior glide, and balance in subjects with limited ankle dorsiflexion. Methods: Fifteen subjects (eight males and seven females) with limited ankle dorsiflexion participated in this study. Ankle passive dorsiflexion range of motion (ROM), talus posterior glide, and the lower quarter Y-balance test (YBT-LQ) were measured pre-stretching, after applying gastrocnemius stretching (GS), and after applying gastrocnemius stretching with talus stability taping (GSTST). The two types of stretching were performed at random. Results: Ankle passive dorsiflexion ROM was significantly increased by both types of stretching (p < 0.05), and ROM was significantly more increased post-GSTST than post-GS (p < 0.05). In addition, talus posterior glide was significantly increased post-GSTST than pre-stretching and post-GS (p < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference between post-GS and pre-stretching (p > 0.05). YBT-LQ score was significantly increased post-GSTST than pre-stretching (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Gastrocnemius stretching with talus stability taping is an effective method for subjects with limited ankle dorsiflexion to improve ankle passive dorsiflexion, talus posterior gliding, and balance.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of scapular taping on muscle activities of the scapular rotators and anterior deltoid, ROM, shoulder pain, proprioception in subacute stroke patients. Twenty-eight patients were randomly assigned to an experimental and control groups of fourteen patients respectively. Muscle activity of upper and lower trapezius, serratus anterior, anterior deltoid was measured using surface electromyography. Visual analog scale was used for shoulder pain. Electro-Goniometry was used for shoulder elevation ROM. Assessment board was used for shoulder elevation proprioception. The muscle activity of the lower trapezius and serratus anterior increased significantly after scapular tape application (p<0.05). The AROM and PROM in the shoulder elevation significantly increased after scapular tape application (p<0.05). The VAS in the shoulder no significantly decreased after scapular tape application (p>0.05). The proprioception in the shoulder no significantly increased after scapular tape application (p>0.05). The results of this study suggest that scapular taping can be used an additional therapy for increasing muscle activity of lower trapezius and serratus anterior and ROM during shoulder elevation in subacute stroke patients.
In this study, we are concluded like this : 5 men who are soccer player of P university in B city measure the Electromyography with an angle of motion according to kinesiotaping's application when practicing in-step kick. When exercising in-step kick, the change of realization of muscle load of lower limbs enhence Gastrocnemius Lateralis and Vastus Medialis in the section of backswing, and improve Tibialis Anterior, Vastus Medialis, Rectus Femoris prior to impact after back-swing. Before impact, it mainly impoved Tibialis Anterior, Vastus Medialis, Rectus Femoris. After impact, it generally improved Gastrocnemius Lateralis, Vastus Medialis. Average integral electromyography value, it was such a small difference(; the difference of the value in Tibialis Anterior, Rectus Femoris, Vastus Medialis) that we can't compare case of after taping than before. In Electromyography, in case of after taping was considerably decreased at Gastrocnemius Lateralis, there was statistically significant difference between before and after. It was a little increased, after taping than before at Knee angle. And degree was a little decreased at Ankle angle. But, It's so delicate difference, there was not statistically significant difference between before and after.
The aim of this paper is to design and evaluate calf braces that are equipped with Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) modules. These braces are intended to alleviate calf pain in PARA Taekwondo athletes. The paper also seeks to assess the effects of different textile electrode designs. PARA Taekwondo participants are at a heightened risk of injuries and pain due to the nature of this exercise, which is designed for individuals with disabilities. Additionally, there is a significant risk of strain on the lower limb muscles in PARA Taekwondo compared to regular Taekwondo. To address this issue, calf taping methods are commonly used. In this study, we develop calf EMS protective gear and aim to examine the effects of different textile electrode designs inspired by taping methods. We evaluate the differences in the effects of three different textile electrode designs through visual analog scale (VAS) and range of motion (ROM) measurements. The results show that EMS protective gear has the potential to reduce calf pain among PARA Taekwondo athletes, with electrode designs inspired by kinesiology taping providing the most effective pain relief. This research suggests that these findings may be applicable to other sports disciplines, body areas, and everyday pain relief scenarios.
