  • A motion planning algorithm is presented in this paper for a commercialized quadruped walking of robot pet. Stable walking is the basic requirement for a commercial-purpose legged robot. In order to secure the walking stability, modified body sway to the centroid of support polygon is addressed. By representation of walking motion with respect to the world coordinate system rather than body coordinate, it is possible to design the several gaits in unified fashion. The initial gait posture is introduced to maximize the stride and to achieve fast walking. The proposed walking motion planning is verified through computer simulation and experiments.

  • In this paper, we propose a fast variable-size block matching algorithm for motion estimation based on bit-pattern. Motion estimation in the proposed algorithm is performed after the representation of image sequence is transformed 8bit pixel values into 1bit ones depending on the mean value of search block, which brings a short searching time by reducing the computational complexity. Moreover, adaptive searching methods according to the motion information of the block make the procedure of motion estimation efficient by eliminating an unnecessary searching of low motion block and deepening a searching procedure in high motion block. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm provides better performance-0.5dB PSNR improvement-than full search block matching algorithm with a fixed block size.

  • Recently, there are interested in the automatic traffic flowing and accident detection using various low level information from video in the road. In this paper, the automatic traffic flowing and algorithm, and application of traffic accident detection using traffic management systems are studied. To achieve these purposes, the spatio-temporal relation models using topological and directional relations have been made, then a matching of the proposed models with the directional motion verbs proposed by Levin's verbs of inherently directed motion is applied. Finally, the synonym and antonym are inserted by using WordNet. For the similarity measuring between proposed modeling and trajectory of moving object in the video, the objects are extracted, and then compared with the trajectories of moving objects by the proposed modeling. Because of the different features with each proposed modeling, the rules that have been generated will be applied to the similarity measurement by TSR (Tangent Space Representation). Through this research, we can extend our results to the automatic accident detection of vehicle using CCTV.

  • In this letter, we propose a novel approach to detecting and tracking apartment buildings for the development of a video-based navigation system that provides augmented reality representation of guidance information on live video sequences. For this, we propose a building detector and tracker. The detector is based on the AdaBoost classifier followed by hierarchical clustering. The classifier uses modified Haar-like features as the primitives. The tracker is a motion-adjusted tracker based on pyramid implementation of the Lukas-Kanade tracker, which periodically confirms and consistently adjusts the tracking region. Experiments show that the proposed approach yields robust and reliable results and is far superior to conventional approaches.

  • The purpose of this research is to study methods for performing transition that have visual representation of corresponding animations with no bounce in subsequently recognized user information when attempting to interact with a virtual 3D character in real-time using user motion. If the transitions of the animation are needed owing to a variety of external environments, continuous recognition of user information is required to correspond to the motion. The proposed method includes linear interpolation of the transition using cross-fades and blending techniques. The normalized playing time of the source animation was utilized for automatically calculating the transition interpolation length of the target animation and also as the criteria in selecting the crossfades and blending techniques. In particular, in the case of blending, the weighting value based on the degree of similarity between two animations is used as a blending parameter. Accordingly, transitions for visually excellent animation are performed on interactive holographic projection systems.

  • In this paper a free-form hull design program and performance prediction program for planing boat is introduced. This program enables the designer to do complex geometric hull shape design on a personal computer and accurately to predict power requirements for a given loading and velocity. For a free form design, Bezier curve model is adopted as a basic representation tool of curves and surfaces, and this program has versatile functions to do fairing jobs with a convenient graphical user interface. After creating a hull form the geometric data is provided in a manner compatible with a variety of analysis tools including 'Motion Analysis(by Zarnick)' for prediction of motion characteristics in regular waves, 'Running Attitude (by Savitsky)' for prediction of the running attitude and required power.

  • In this paper, we present an interactive 3D character modeling and animation including a data management tool for editing the animation. It includes an animation editor for changing animation sequences according to the modified structure of 3D object in the object structure editor. The animation tool has the feature that it can produce motion data independently of any modeling tool including our modeling tool. Differently from conventional 3D graphics tools that model objects based on geometrically calculated data, our tool models 3D geometric and animation data by approximating to the real object using 2D image interactively. There are some applications that do not need precise representation, but an easier way to obtain an approximated model looking similar to the real object. Our tool is appropriate for such applications. This paper has focused on the data management for enhancing the automatin and convenience when editing a motion or when mapping a motion to the other character.

  • In this paper, we define the generalized tricomplex numbers and give some algebraic properties of them. By using the matrix representation of generalized tricomplex numbers, we determine a motion on the hypersurface M in eight dimensional generalized linear space ℝ8αβγ and show that this is a homothetic motion. Also, for some special cases of the real numbers α, β and γ, we give some examples of homothetic motions in ℝ8 and ℝ84 and obtain some rotational matrices in these spaces, too.

  • A pneumatically-driven driving simulator that provides a realistic representation of the driving environment was developed. The motion platform for the driving simulator is a mechatronic device that gives a driver the realistic feeling of an actual vehicle. The cost of the motion platform comprises the largest part of the expenses in developing a driving simulator. In this project, to develop a low-cost motion platform, the self-built motion platform based on the Stewart platform configuration that is constructed by six pneumatic cylinders was used as its actuator. The Stewart platform that moves in response to the operating signals of the joystick showed satisfactory tracking performance. We confirmed the possibility of the driving simulator using rFactor that is a commercially available racing game software.

  • CAD systems offer a variety of techniques for designing and rendering models of static 3D objects and even of mechanisms, but relatively few tools exist for interactively specifying arbitrary movements of rigid bodies through space. Such tools are essential, not only for artistic animation, but also, for planning and demonstrating assembly and disassembly procedure of manufactured products. A rigid body motion is a continuous mapping from the time domain to a set of positions. To relieve the designers from the burden of specifying this mapping in abstract mathematical terms, combinations of simple rigid motion primitives, such as linear translations or constant axis rotations, are often used. These simple motions are planar and thus ill-suited for approximating arbitrary motions in 3D-space. Instead, we propose the screw motion primitive, a special combination of linear translations and constant axis rotations, which has a simple geometric representation that can be automatically and unambiguously computed from the starting and ending positions of the moving body. Although, any two positions may be interpolated by an infinity of motions, we chose the screw motion for its relative generality and its computational advantages. The paper covers original algorithms for computing the screw motions from interpolated positions and envelopes of swept regions to predict collisions.
