  • In this paper, an interframe coding method for volumetric medical images is proposed. By treating interslice variations as the motion of bones or tissues, we use the motion compensation (MC) technique to predict the current frame from the previous frame. Instead of a block matching algorithm (BMA), which is the most common motion estimation (ME) algorithm in video coding, image warping with biolinear transformation has been suggested to predict complex interslice object variation in medical images. When an object disappears between slices, however, warping prediction has poor performance. In order to overcome this drawback, an overlapped block motion compensation (OBMC) technique is combined with carping prediction. Motion compensated residual images are then encoded by using an embedded zerotree wavelet (EZW) coder with small modification for consistent quality of reconstructed images. The experimental results show that the interframe coding suing warping prediction provides better performance compared with interframe coding, and the OBMC scheme gives some additional improvement over the warping-only MC method.

  • This paper presents a rotational motion estimation and correction technique for digital image stabilization. An equivalent rotation model is derived so as to accommodate a combined rotational and the translational motion. Thanks to this simplification, the suggested estimation algorithm can directly find the rotational center using geometric characteristic of local motion vectors instead of using searching method. And we also present recursive version of frame to reference algorithm(FRA) for the real time implementation. The proposed DIS system does not require time consuming parameter searching process, while showing comparatively good performance compared with the previous ones. To show the effectiveness of the DIS scheme, the algorithm has been implemented on the DSP based hardware system and experimental results are also discussed.

  • In this letter, The proposed algorithm has processed the motion estimation and compensation only in the region which has the motion. By considering the temporal redundancies between the successive frames, the bit cost for representing the motion are reduced efficiently. The performance of them proposed technique show the superior result to the existing methods' in terms of both PSNR and coding cost.

  • This work is based on the motion estimation to handle the ill-posed nature. The algorithm used in this study that performs the motion estimation for overlapped block is used to calculate with using pixel of neighborhood block with higher correlation and present block by considering the correlation level of neighborhood block. The proposed method shows in a significant improvement in the quality of the mothion field when comparing the conventional methods.

  • Motion compensation by affine transform has been proposed as a solution to the artifact problems in very low bit rate video coding and a HMA(Hexagoanl Matching Algorithm) has been proposed for refine motions estimation. When dividing images with an affine transform, as image objects do not necessarily conform to triangle patterns. In this paper we propose a method that first divides an image into triangular patches according to its edge information and then further divides the image into more detailed triangular patches where more complicated edge information occurs. We image propose a PMA(Polygona Matching Algorithm) for refine motion estimation because of the different triangle pattern types of neighboring blocks and its performance is compared with H.263.

  • This paper proposes a blocking artifacts detection algorithm in frequency domain for MC-FRUC (Motion Compensated Frame Rate Up-Conversion). Conventional MC-FRUC algorithms occur blocking artifacts near interpolated block boundaries since motion compensation is performed from block-based motion vector. For efficiently decreasing blocking artifacts, this paper analyses frequency characteristics of the interpolated frame and reduces blocking artifacts on block boundaries. In experimental results the proposed method shows better subjective quality than some conventional FRUC method and also increases the PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) value on average 0.45 dB compared with BDMC(Bi-Directional Motion Compensation).

  • In this paper we present a genetic approach for trajectory control algorithm of balancing weight for IWR biped walking robot. The biped walking robot, IWR that was made by Automatic Control Lab. of Inha University has a trunk which stabilizes its walking by generating compensation moment. Trunk is composed of a revolute and a prismatic joint which roles balancing weight. The motion of balancing weight is determined by the gait of legs and represented by two linear second order ordinary differential equations. The solution of this equation must satisfy some constraints simultaneously to have a physical meaning. Genetic algorithm search for this feasible motion of balancing weight under some constraints. Simulation results show that feasible motion of balancing weight can be obtained by genetic algorithm.

  • The performance of Motion Compensated Discrete Cosine Transform (MC-DCT) video coding is improved by using the region adaptive subband image coding [18]. On the assumption that the video is acquired from the camera on a moving platform and the distance between the camera and the scene is large enough, both the motion of camera and the motion of moving objects in a frame are compensated. For the compensation of camera motion, a feature matching algorithm is employed. Several feature points extracted using a Sobel operator are used to compensate the camera motion of translation, rotation, and zoom. The illumination change between frames is also compensated. Motion compensated frame differences are divided into three regions called stationary background, moving objects, and newly emerging areas each of which is arbitrarily shaped. Different quantizers are used for different regions. Compared to the conventional MC-DCT video coding using block matching algorithm, our video coding scheme shows about 1.0-dB improvements on average for the experimental video samples.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method for reducing the computational overhead of fine-to-coarse multi-resolution motion estimation (MRME) at the finest resolution level by searching for the region to consider motion vectors of the coarsest resolution subband. At this time, if half-pel accuracy motion estimation (HPAME) is used in the baseband where influence a lot of effect to the reconstructed image, we can have the motion vector exactly But, this method causes to higher computational overhead. So we suggest the method to the computational overhead by using selective interpolation. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm gives better results than the traditional algorithms from image quality.
