The Effects of Mathematical Games with Motion on Young Children's Development (운동요소가 포함된 수학게임이 유아발달에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was planned to investigate the effects of mathematical games with motion on young children's development. The study was performed to compose mathematical games with motion and just mathematical games for young children. The games were set up to be executed 16 times for 8 weeks. The results of this study were as follows: Mathematical games with motion had a significant effect on young children's mathematical problem-solving ability. Mathematical games with motion had a significant effect in every category on young children's ability for motion competence and mathematical games with motion had a significant effect on young children's socio-emotional development. There were significant differences between the control group and the experimental group except for the independence from teachers and peer interaction. Mathematical games with motion had a significant effect on young children's language ability.

  • In sports video games, especially ball games, motion capture techniques are used to reproduce the ball-driven performances. The amount of motion data needed to create different situations in which athletes exchange balls is bound to increase exponentially with resolution. This paper proposes how avatars in virtual worlds can not only imitate professional athletes in ball games, but also create and edit their actions effectively. First, various ball-handling movements are recorded using motion sensors. We do not really have to control an actual ball; imitating the motions is enough. Next, motion is created by specifying what to pass the ball through, and then making motion to handle the ball in front of the motion sensor. The ball's occupant then passes the ball to the user-specified target through a motion that imitates the user's, and the process is repeated. The method proposed can be used as a convenient user interface for motion based games for players who handle balls.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest that the movement expression activity of intellectually disabled people is effective in the learning process of LMA motion recognition based on Kinect sensor. We performed an ICT motion recognition games for intellectually disabled based on movement learning of LMA. The characteristics of the movement through Laban's LMA include the change of time in which movement occurs through the human body that recognizes space and the tension or relaxation of emotion expression. The design and implementation of the motion recognition model will be described, and the possibility of using the proposed motion recognition model is verified through a simple experiment. As a result of the experiment, 24 movement expression activities conducted through 10 learning sessions of 5 participants showed a concordance rate of 53.4% or more of the total average. Learning motion games that appear in response to changes in motion had a good effect on positive learning emotions.   • In this paper, we propose a low-cost and compact motion capture system which enables to play motion games in PS2(Play Station 2). Recently, motion capture systems which are being used as a part in film producing and making games are too expensive and enormous systems. Now days, motion games using common USB camera are slow and have two-dimension recognition. But PSD sensor has a few good points, such as fast and low-cost. In recently year, 3D motion capture systems using 2D PSD (Position Sensitive Detector) optic sensor for motion capturing have been developed. One is Multi-PSD motion capture system applying stereo vision and another is Single-PSD motion capture system applying optical theory ship. But there are some problems to apply them to motion games. The Multi-PSD is high-cost and complicated because of using two more PSD Camera. It is so difficult to make markers having omni-direction equal intensity in Single-PSD. In this research, we propose a new theory that solves aforementioned problems. It can measure 3D coordination if separated two marker's intensity is equal to. We made a system based on this theory and experimented for performance capability. As a result, we were able to develop a motion capture system which is a single, low-cost, fast, compact, wide-angle and an adaptable motion games. The developed system is expected to be useful in animation, movies and games.

  • The aim of this study is to suggest the change of behavior and motor skill of children with intellectual disabilities participating functional games using virtual reality. For this purpose, 5 children with intellectual disabilities completed a 16-week functional game program twice a week. The result was as following; the application of functional games using virtual reality has positive effect on behavior and motor skill -static coordination, hand motion coordination, normal motion coordination, motor speed, simultaneous spontaneous motion, single motion competency. The application and utilization of functional games using virtual reality systematically of children with intellectual disabilities can bring an improvement on their overall development.

  • The generalization trend of smartphones has brought many smartphone games into daily lives. These games are mainly dependent on the interactions on the display of the phone using finger touches. On the other hand, functions for detecting the positions and actions of the phones such as gyro-sensors have been rapidly developed over the former orientation sensors and acceleration sensors. Though it has become technologically possible to detect the users' motion via the smartphone devices and to use the phone device directly as the game device, it is hard to find the actualized cases. This paper proposes a new paradigm that includes basic frameworks and algorithms for the games combining the motion tracking and mutual communications on the smartphones and presents the details of its implementation and results.

Design Strategy for the Implementation of Cooperative Group Games in Motion Based Arcade Game System

  • Cooperative Group Games (CGG) emphasize participation, challenges and fun by cooperation among group members rather than competition. CGGs have been proven to be an efficient education method that teaches the value of cultivating cooperation skills, discipline, and sense of public order for tackling problems together through various types of interactions. When integrated with computer game technology, the general classic CGG can be reborn with new educational and entertaining aspects. To combine the joy of physical movement of group games and the richness of computer game contents, a motion based arcade CGG has been developed in this study, based on the original ideas and structures of classic off-line CGGs. While implementing the classic game concepts in arcade environment, various design attributes have been considered and applied, which were supposed to promote cooperative game play. Overall, the process of the implementation and test results of our four CGGs suggest several design strategies for effective arcade CGGs.

Motion Capture of the Human Body Using Multiple Depth Sensors

  • The movements of the human body are difficult to capture owing to the complexity of the three-dimensional skeleton model and occlusion problems. In this paper, we propose a motion capture system that tracks dynamic human motions in real time. Without using external markers, the proposed system adopts multiple depth sensors (Microsoft Kinect) to overcome the occlusion and body rotation problems. To combine the joint data retrieved from the multiple sensors, our calibration process samples a point cloud from depth images and unifies the coordinate systems in point clouds into a single coordinate system via the iterative closest point method. Using noisy skeletal data from sensors, a posture reconstruction method is introduced to estimate the optimal joint positions for consistent motion generation. Based on the high tracking accuracy of the proposed system, we demonstrate that our system is applicable to various motion-based training programs in dance and Taekwondo.

  • The popularity of Pokemon games has raised the interest in outdoor augmented reality games. This paper introduces a handgun type motion controller for an outdoor augmented reality shooting game and augmented reality game contents linked to it. The existing augmented reality game controller can only operate the game with the trigger interaction, but the proposed device can also operate the game with motion interaction. A motion-based game controller allows you to immerse yourself in Outdoor AR FPS game.
