We developed a motion capture system to get angle data of human joints in the walking mode. The motion capture system is a pair of leg-shape device, which is composed of three links with ankle, knee and pelvis joints. The sensors for measurement of the joint angle are potentiometers. We used an A/D converter to get digital data from joint angles, and which are used to simulate and coordinate the biped-walking robot developed in our laboratory. To simulate and analyze walking motion, animation based on three-dimension motion is performed using the open inventor software.

This paper describes a whole-body (human body's) motion generation scheme for an android robot that uses motion capture device and a nonlinear constrained optimization method. Because the captured motion data are based on global coordinates and the actors have different heights and different upper-lower body ratios, the captured motion data cannot be used directly for a humanoid robot. In this paper, we suggest a method for obtaining robot joint angles, which allow the resultant robot motion to be as close as possible to the captured human motion data, by applying a nonlinear constrained optimization method. In addition, the results are animated to demonstrate the similarity of the motions.

With the development of films, games and animation industry, analysis and reuse of human motion capture data become more and more important. Human motion segmentation, which divides a long motion sequence into different types of fragments, is a key part of mocap-based techniques. However, most of the segmentation methods only take into account low-level physical information (motion characteristics) or high-level data information (statistical characteristics) of motion data. They cannot use the data information fully. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised framework using both low-level physical information and high-level data information of human motion data to solve the human segmentation problem. First, we introduce the algorithm of CFSFDP and optimize it to carry out initial segmentation and obtain a good result quickly. Second, we use the ACA method to perform optimized segmentation for improving the result of segmentation. The experiments demonstrate that our framework has an excellent performance.

Recently, webtoons-based animations have been expanding in Korea, where the role of mobile devices is growing, and media videos such as "YouTube" and "Tik-Tok," which have shorter screening and production cycles than traditional feature films, dramas, and animations, are attracting attention and being enjoyed by public. In order to produce animation content that fits the trend of this shortening video and production cycle, efficiency must be increased not only in story but also in production. Production methods and production technologies need changes to increase efficiency. Animation using motion capture, which is highly production-efficient, is widely used in movies that shows realistic movements, but still has little use in producing cartoon-style animations with exaggerated movements. We analyzed the production method of 2D animation and CG animation and applied the result to CG animation to increase the efficiency of production and production. The methods of production through such experiments are expected to help improve the efficiency of producing animation content that is suitable for the latest trends such as webtoon animation.
This paper deals with character animation using motion capture. The captured motion requires the editing process to smooth the jerky motion by the sensor noise, or to combine several clip-motion libraries. For this purpose, we describe a simple technique for editing the captured motion using the Kalman filter technique. Our formulation allows the generated motion to satisfy the kinematic constraints of the human model. Furthermore, it provides us with a multi-level control mechanism of the motion resolution by changing the uncertainty of the measurement model and the seamless motion transition.
A framework for semantic annotation oi human motion sequences is proposed in this paper. Motion capture technology is widely used for manuiacturing animation since it produces high qualify character motion similar to the actual motion of the human body. However, motion capture has a significant weakness due to the lack of an industry wide standard for archiving and retrieving motion capture data. It is difficult for animators to retrieve the desired motion sequences from motion capture files as there is no semantic annotation on already captured motion data. Our goal is to improve the reusability of motion capture data. To archive our goal first, we propose a standard format for integrating different motion capture file formals. Our standard format is called MCML (Motion Capture Markup Language). It is a markup language based on XML (extensible Markup Language). The purpose of MCML is not only to facilitate the conversion or integration of different formats, but also to allow for greater reusability of motion capture data, through the construction of a motion database storing the MCML documents Second, we define motion ontologies that are used to annotate and semantically organize human motion sequences. This ontology-based approach provides the means for discovering and exploiting the information and knowledge surrounding motion capture data.
In this paper, we propose fast and precise extracting & tracking algorithm based on general camera and frame grabber for facial motion capture animation. Proposed algorithm consists of two steps. extracting and tracking. The former is to separate multiple markers from input image using region merging based on neural networks. The latter Is to track extracted multiple markers at each frame using tracking algorithm based on neural networks. In the experiment, we could remove noise and reduce processing time in the step of extraction. In addition, we could have good tracking results in the low frame rates.

Regarding efficient development of computer graphic animations, lots of techniques for editing or transforming existing motion data have been developed. Basically, the motion transformation techniques follow optimization process. To make the animation be natural, almost all the techniques utilize kinematics and dynamics in constructing constraints for the optimization. Since the kinematic and dynamic structures of virtual characters to be animated are very complex, the most time-consuming part is known to the optimization process. In order to suggest some guide lines to engineers involved in the motion transformation, in this paper, we analyze the computational complexities for typical motion transformation in quantitative manner as well as the possibility for parallel computation.
