  • There are two methods in 3-D sound reproduction: a surround system, like 3.1 channel method and a binaural system using 2-channel method. The binaural system utilizes the sound localization principle of a human using two ears. Generally, a crosstalk between each channel of 2-channel loudspeaker system should be canceled to produce a natural 3-D sound. To solve this problem, it is necessary to trace a head movement. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm to correctly trace the head movement of a listener. The Proposed algorithm is based on the detection of face and eye. The face detection uses the intensity of an image and the position of eyes is detected by a mathematical morphology. When the head of the listener moves, length of borderline between face area and eyes may change. We use this information to the tracking of head movement. A computer simulation results show That head movement is effectively estimated within +10 margin of error using the proposed algorithm.

  • The method of 3D sound realization using 2 speakers provides two advantages: cheap and easy to build. In the case, crosstalk between 2 speakers has to be eliminated. To calculate and remove the effect of the crosstalk it is essential to find a rotation angle of human head correctly. In the paper, we suggest an algorithm to find the head angle of 2 channel system. We first detect a face area of the given image using Haar-like feature. After that, the eve detection using pre-processor and morphology method. Finally, we calculate the face rotation angle with the face andi the eye location. As a result of the experiment on various face images, the proposed method improves the efficiency much better than the conventional methods.

  • 1. Background and Purpose The faces of human being change as they grow older. Therefore, we must consider the changes of the face when we diagnosed the Sasang Constitution of men through the analysis of facial appearance. As a study of all the standardization researches about the morphology of face, I carried out this study about the 50's and 60's of Korean men and women according to Sasang Constitution. 2. Objectives The object of this study is selected from the patients who were already diagnosed Sasang Constitutions at the department of Sasang Constitutional Medicine in Kyunghee Oriental Medical Center. The number of the patients were 74 men and 73 women in 50's and 60's. The number of general age group were 182 men and 180 who were also diagnosed Sasang Constitutions at the department of Sasang Constitutional Medicine at the same period. 3. Method I took the photographs of front view and lateral view of the objectives by digital camera and obtained the 200 measure through the facial measurement program. I compared the measure of 50's and 60's by three constitutional groups and I also compared the measure between 50's to 60's and all ages by three constitutional groups. 4. Results In men group, the measures which made differences by each constitutional groups were 17, and they were 6 in 50's and 60's. In women group, the measures which made differences by each constitutional groups were 52, and they were 33 in 50's and 60's 5. Conclusion (1) In the men group of 50's and 60's, Taeumin showed wide bigonial breadth, Soyangin showed long brow and Soumin showed big eyes. (2) In the women group of 50's and 60's, Taeumin showed the longest level of facial length, width and metopion head length, Soyangin showed metopion head length was long and the nose was also long, Soumin showed the ratio of brow in the face didn't make any difference with other constitutions and the metopion head length was short. (3) The measures which made differences were more in the all ages than in the 50's and 60's. It means that the differences decrease as they grow older, especially in 50's and 60's.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the associations of head posture the position of the tongue or the hyoid bone to craniofacial structure. Cephalograms taken in Natural head position(NHP) of 90 dental students (50 in male, 40 in female, 20 to 30 years in age) were traced and measured using the extracranial true horizontal and vertical lines. The obtained results were as follows; 1. There was no sex difference in head posture, but the hyoid bone was placed anteroinferiorly in male more than in female and anteroinferior inclination of the hyoid bone showed greatly in male. 2. The more inclined was the cervical column, the less prognathic was the face in natural head posture, and the larger cervical curvature, the more vertical pattern of the face. 3. The less small showed craniocervical angulation, the more anteriorly placed was the hyoid bone to the cranial base, and there was no significantly association between craniocervical angulation and the vertical position of the hyoid bone. 4. The more prognathic was the mandible, the more anteriorly placed was the hyoid bone, and there was slightly association between the craniofacial morphology and the vertical position of the hyoid bone.

  • The extraction of a face is a very important part for human interface, biometrics and security. In this paper, we applies DCM(Dilation of Color and Motion) filter and Active Contour Models to extract facial outline. First, DCM filter is made by applying morphology dilation to the combination of facial color image and differential image applied by dilation previously. This filter is used to remove complex background and to detect facial outline. Because Active Contour Models receive a large effect according to initial curves, we calculate rotational degree using geometric ratio of face, eyes and mouth. We use edgeness and intensity as an image energy, in order to extract outline in the area of weak edge. We acquire various head-pose images with both eyes from five persons in inner space with complex background. As an experimental result with total 125 images gathered by 25 per person, it shows that average extraction rate of facial outline is 98.1% and average processing time is 0.2sec.

  • In this paper, we apply DCM(Dilation of Color and Motion information) mask and Active Contour Models(Snakes) to extract facial outline in moving pictures with complex background. First, we propose DCM mask which is made by applying morphology dilation and AND operation to combine facial color and motion information, and use this mask to detect facial region without complex background and to remove noise in image energy. Also, initial curves are automatically set according to rotational degree estimated with geometric ratio of facial elements to overcome the demerit of Active Contour Models which is sensitive to initial curves. And edge intensity and brightness are both used as image energy of snakes to extract contour at parts with weak edges. For experiments, we acquired total 480 frames with various head-poses of sixteen persons with both eyes shown by taking pictures in inner space and also by capturing broadcasting images. As a result, it showed that more elaborate facial contour is extracted at average processing time of 0.28 seconds when using interpolated initial curves according to facial rotation degree and using combined image energy of edge intensity and brightness.
