  • Premature ventricular contractions are the most common of all arrhythmias and may cause more serious situation like ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in some patients. Therefore, the detection of this arrhythmia becomes crucial in the early diagnosis and the prevention of possible life threatening cardiac diseases. Most methods for detecting arrhythmia require pp interval, or the diversity of P wave morphology, but they are difficult to detect the p wave signal because of various noise types. Thus, it is necessary to use noise-free R wave. So, the new approach for the detection of PVC is presented based on the rhythm analysis and the beat matching in this paper. For this purpose, we removed baseline wandering of low frequency band and made summed signals that are composed of two high frequency bands including the frequency component of QRS complex using the wavelet filter. And then we designed R wave detection algorithm using the adaptive threshold and window through RR interval. Also, we developed algorithm to classify PVC using RR interval. The performance of R wave and PVC detection is evaluated by using MIT-BIH arrhythmia database. The achieved scores indicate average detection rate of 99.76%, sensitivity of 99.30% and specificity of 98.66%; accuracy respectively for R wave and PVC detection.

  • Purpose: Variation in the morphology of gingival papilla may be determined by the shape and position of anatomic crown as well as contact area and embrasure form of individual teeth. However, periodontal biotype classification is regarded to be subjective because of the lack of definite criteria. In this study, we defined the objective parameters which constitute the periodontal biotype and measured their relationship. Materials and Methods: 109 of dental casts were prepared using three dimensional scanner and specialized reconstruction software, then acquiredvirtual models were sent to the 20 professional dentists to define the specific periodontal biotypes. Several parameters around periodontal structures were measured from the virtual models; facial surface area of the anterior tooth (AT), anterior papillary area (AP), proportion of the dento-papillary complex, clinical papillary length (PL), and clinical papillary angle (PA). Statistical analysis was performed to confirm the relationship among parameters. Results: Coincidence rate of periodontal biotype within observers was $63.77{\pm}16.05%$. Coincidence rate between observers was $76.15{\pm}16.43%$. Among the parameters measured, PL showed the most positive correlations and PA presented the most negative correlations. The parameter of the AP and PL of six maxillary anterior teeth showed significant correlation coefficient. Conclusion: Anterior papillary area and clinical papillary length would be objective parameters for determining the consistent periodontal biotypes.

  • Polyurethane foam was utilized to collect protists from the 2 ponds in Seoul National University and another pond in vicinity of Paldang Dam. The identified protists were 4 species in Cyanophyta, 2 species in Euglenophyta, 19 species in Chrysophyta, 9 species in Chlorophyta, 2 species in Ciliophora, and 3 species in Sarcodian. To test the adoptability of the sampling method for classes in junior and senior high school, frequency of the 25 protists in each observation and in each preparation were calculated. The families which were present at high frequencies were Naviculaceae. Fragilariaceae, Cymbellaceae and Coelastraceae. In an experimental application of the 40 pictures taken from the samples, students in junior classes recognized the protists by their outer morphology, internal structure. color, and colonial types, in decreasing order. Use of the collecting method and the applicability of protists for teaching biology were discussed.

  • A commercial cyclic diphosphonate ester (TPMP) and melamine (MA) was combined and added to polyamide 6 (PA6) to prepare the fire retardant PA6. An increase of the oxygen index to 28.6 as well as an improvement of the UL-94 classification to V-0 rating was observed. Cone measurements explained the rate of heat release (RHR) decreased and TGA showed the early decomposition and high solid residue due to co-addition of TPMP and MA, suggesting the occurrence of synergistic effect of TPMP and MA on fire resistance of PA6. The morphology of the char developed during combust ion showed the appearance of thick, intumescent cells on the surface of retardant PA6, which protects the underlying material from the action of the heat flux or flame and limits the diffusion of combustible volatile products towards the flame and oxygen.

  • Morphological and molecular classifications were attempted in an effort to establish species-specific classifications of three species of the genus Pholis in Korea; these species were subjected to morphological and molecular methodologies using body measurements, RFLP, RAPD, and phylogenetic trees using the nucleotide sequences of mitochondrial 16S and 12S ribosomal DNAs, cytochrome c oxidase I, and cytochrome b. The data demonstrated that the three species of genus Pholis are distinct from each other, both morphologically and genetically.

  • Isolated galaxies in low-density regions are significant in the sense that they are least affected by the hierarchical pattern of galaxy growth and interactions with perturbers at least for the last few Gyr. To form a comprehensive picture of the star formation history of isolated galaxies, we construct a catalog of isolated galaxies and their comparison sample in relatively denser environments. The galaxies are drawn from SDSS DR7 in the redshift range of 0.025 < z < 0.044. We performed visual inspection and classified their morphology following the Hubble classification scheme. We have investigated the color-magnitude diagram and found elliptical and unbarred spiral galaxies in isolated systems are relatively fainter and bluer than those in denser regions. For the spectroscopic study, we make use of the OSSY catalog (Oh et al. 2011). Our analysis on the absorption-line properties based on the comparison with stellar population models suggests that isolated elliptical galaxies are likely to be younger and metal poorer, while isolated Sc-type galaxies seem to have older luminosity-weighted ages, than their high-density counterpart. In addition, according to the BPT diagnostics, early-type galaxies among isolated galaxies are rather evenly classified into star forming, composite, Seyfert and LINER, whereas their comparisons are mainly populated in the LINER region. On the other hand, late-type galaxies do not show any prominent difference. We discuss the evolutionary histories of isolated galaxies in the context of the standard ${\Lambda}CDM$ cosmology.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the various sizing systems and specified anthropometric data as well as the fit issues used today. Background: A standard sizing system for clothes is a system that is developed based on body shape and size classifications method. To develop an efficient sizing system, we have to classify the database from the majority of the samples. Method: The method of this paper deals with the secular trend of height spanning from 1997 to 2010 along with the morphological feature patterns for Koreans. It also investigates the comparison of the growth pattern between male and female and the body shape classification according to the drop values based on the anthropometric data samples of KATS taken from the 2010 surveys in order to develop and define the new guidelines for the size designation systems of clothes. Results: The results are classified with body size and shape categories according to the drop values by age and sex in order to develop the new guidelines for the size designation systems based on these body dimensions from the analyzed anthropometric database. Conclusion: These new guidelines for the size designation system will eliminate the confusion that currently exists among countries and individual apparel designers. Application: The adopted standards could be used to compare the sizing systems worldwide.

  • Background: Acute myeloid leukemia is an acquired clonal heterogeneous stem cell disorder. Hence, various parameters are sought out to categorize this disease into subtypes, so that as a consequence specific treatment modalities can be offered. Conventionally, the practically used method for classification utilizes French American British (FAB) criteria based on morphology and cytochemistry. The aim of present study was to determine the current spectrum of AML sub types in patients in Karachi. Materials and Methods: This single centre cross sectional study was conducted at Liaquat National Hospital, Karachi, extending from January 2010 to December 2014. Data were retrieved from archives were analyzed with SPSS version 22. Results: A total of 125 patients were diagnosed at our institution with de novo AML during five years period, 76 males and 49 females. Median age was 34.5 years. AML-M1 was the predominant FAB subtype (23.2%) followed by M2 (18.4%), M3 and M4 (16% each), M0 (14.4%), M5 (7.2%), M6 (3.2%) and M7 (1.6%). Conclusions: AML in Pakistani patients is seen in a relatively young population. The most common FAB subtype observed in our study was acute myeloblastic leukemia, without maturation (M1).

  • Currently, research on natural language processing (NLP) is rapidly evolving. Natural language processing is a technology that allows computers to analyze the meanings of languages used in everyday life, and is used in various fields such as speech recognition, spelling tests, and text classification. Currently, the most commonly used natural language processing library is NLTK based on English, which has a disadvantage in Korean language processing. Therefore, after introducing KonLPy and Soynlp, the Korean Tokenizing libraries, we will analyze morphology analysis and processing techniques, compare and analyze modules with Soynlp that complement KonLPy's shortcomings, and use them as natural language processing models.
