This paper describes the computed tomographic features of ovarian masses in dogs. The CT images of female dogs with a confirmed histological diagnosis of ovarian tumors or ovarian cystic diseases were studied retrospectively. Seven dogs met the inclusion criteria. The morphological features of ovarian tumors and ovarian cystic diseases coincided to a certain degree, but ovarian tumors tended to be predominantly solid. Objective measurements of Hounsfield units (HU) suggest that benign lesions may show lower HU values than malignant tumors and mild contrast enhancement because of the small soft tissue composition. CT is useful for a differential diagnosis of ovarian masses by providing additional information on the imaging features of the masses and an evaluation of metastases.
Araneidae Clerck, 1757 is one of the largest families within the order Araneae Clerck, 1757, comprising 3,065 species in 177 genera. To date, two species of the genus Mengora O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1889 and four species of the genus Araniella Chamberlin & Ivie, 1942 have been recorded in Korea. During a seasonal survey of the spider fauna in mountainous terrain conducted from 2018 to 2019, females of Mangora foliosa Zhu & Yin, 1998 and a male of Araniella robusta sp. nov. were collected with a sweep net between shrubs in mixed forests from Mt. Juwangsan National Park. In this paper, we provide a diagnosis of the new species and descriptions including measurements and morphological illustrations. The new species, Araniella robusta sp. nov., can be easily distinguished from other species in the genus Araniella Chamberlin & Ivie, 1942 by a branched conductor with two blunt tips and conjugation of the embolus tip and terminal apophysis.

Three wolf spiders of the family Lycosidae Sundevall, 1833 are newly described from Korea: Arctosa labiata Tso & Chen, 2004, Pardosa altitudis Tikader & Malhotra, 1980, and Pardosa laevitarsis Tanaka & Suwa, 1986. These spiders were collected during a seasonal survey of the spider fauna of National Parks located in Gangwon-do and Gyeongsanbuk-do in 2018-2019; two males of A. labiata from Mt. Songnisan National Park, one female of P. altitudis from Mt. Chiaksan National Park, and two males of P. laevitarsis from Mt. Odaesan and Sobaeksan National Parks. The three newly recorded spiders have previously been known to be distributed in Taiwan, India, China, and Japan. These spiders were collected by hand in mixed forest leaf litter in mountainous terrains. The present paper taxonomically describes these three wolf spiders with measurements and morphological illustrations.
Two species of the genus Oxytate L. Koch, 1878 have been recorded in Korea to date. The spider fauna was surveyed in the mountainous terrain of Mt. Hallasan National Park in 2019. A female of Oxytate lobia sp. nov. was collected with a sweep net between shrubs in mixed forests during a seasonal spider survey and is described with measurements, morphological illustrations, and a diagnosis. The new species can be easily distinguished from similar species within the genus by the long copulatory duct conjugated with a spermatheca, a pair of triangular pits at the bottom, and no ditches.

The spider fauna of mountains, including national parks, in Korea was intensively surveyed in 2018-2019. During the seasonal surveys, males of Clubiona bakurovi Mikhailov, 1990 (family Clubionidae Wagner, 1887) and Otacilia ansula sp. nov. (family Phrurolithidae Banks, 1892) were collected from shrub foliage and leaf litter, respectively, in mountainous mixed forests. The males of Otacilia ansula sp. nov. can be easily distinguished from those of other its congeners by the slender and hook-shaped retrolateral tibial apophysis, ovoid distal tegular apophysis, and one dorsal spine on the femur with seven pairs of ventral spines on the tibia of leg I. This study provides descriptions of these two species with diagnosis, measurements, and morphological photographs.
To date, Periphyllus allogenes is known only in Korean peninsula, has been reported with morphological characteristics about only the aptera viviparous generation. In this study, we collected fundatrix and alate viviparous female individuals of P. allogenes samples from Gapyeong-gun, and Hongcheon-gun in Korea between 2021 and 2022. Herein, we provide new descriptions, measurements, distributions, host plants, and photographs of unknown morphs, fundatrix and alate viviparous generations of P. allogenes.
I investigated the reproduction system of nine natural populations of P. discolor in Korea and two Mongolian P. conferta populations. The measurements of 19 quantitative or qualitative morphological characters were taken on each of total individuals directly from their natural habitats. Multivariate principal component analyses (PCA) were conducted to detect differences among populations consid-ering several characters simultaneously of variances using the statistical analysis system. 19 morpho-logical characteristics between Korean Potentilla species and Mongolian Potentilla species showed a slight heterogeneity of variance. The length of internodes (LFL and LSI) and characteristics of root (LLR and NOR) were shown a significant difference between two species (P<0.05). The number of ra-mets in P. conferta decreased with increasing geographic distance from viviparity. However, P. discolor has most ramets at distance intervals $60{\sim}80$ cm. In light conditions, P. discolor was significantly less resilience than P. conferta. In drought conditions, although there was not shown significant difference, P. conferta was less resilience than P. discolor. The core analysis indicates that P. conferta is the more resistant species than P. discolor and usually propagates by clonal growth during several strong envi-ronmental disadvantages such as drought events.
Objectives : Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a geriatric dementia that is widespread in old age. In the near future AD will be the biggest problem in public health service. Although a variety of oriental prescriptions, including Sesim-tang, have been traditionally utilized for the treatment of AD, their pharmacological effects and action mechanisms have not yet been fully elucidated. The present study investigated the effects of Sesim-tang on apoptotic cell death induced by CT105 (carboxy terminal 105 amino acid peptide fragment of APP) overexpression in SK-N-SH neuroblastoma cell lines. Methods: We studied the regenerative and inhibitory effects on Alzheimer's disease in CT105-induced SK-N-SH cell lines by Sesim-tang water extract. We examined for cell morphological pattern, DNA fragmentation, LDH activity assay, zymography assay, and immunohistochemistric analysis. Additionally, we investigated the association between the CT105 and neurite degeneration caused by CT105-induced apoptotic response in neurone cells. Results: Findings from our experiments have shown that Sesim-tang inhibits the synthesis or activities of CT105, which has neurotoxicities and apoptotic activities in the cell line. In addition, pretreatment with Sesim-tang ($>50\mu\textrm{g}/ml$ for 12 hours) partially prevented CT105-induced cytotoxicity in SK-N-SH cell lines. SK-N-SH cell lines overexpressed with CT105 exhibited remarkable apoptotic cell damage. Based on morphological observations by phase-contrast microscope and LDH activity measurements in the culture media, the CT105-induced cell death was significantly inhibited by Sesim-tang water extract. Sesim-tang was found to reduce the expression of APP and caspase-3 induced by CT105 in SK-N-SH cell lines and in rat hippocampus. Conclusions: As the result of this study, in the Sesim-tang group, apoptosis in the nervous system is inhibited, the repair against the degeneration of SK-N-SH cell lines by CT105 expression is promoted. Hence, Sesim-tang may be beneficial for the treatment of AD.
Sap flux density (SFD) measurements were used, in combination with morphological characteristics of trees and forest structure, to calculate whole-tree transpiration, stand transpiration (St) and mean canopy stomatal conductance (Gs). Analysis based on the relationships between the morphological characteristics of trees and whole tree water use, and on the responses of SFD and Gs to short wave radiation (RR), vapor pressure deficit (VPD) and soil water content (SWC) during drought and non-drought periods were conducted. The results showed a strong positive correlation between whole tree transpiration and both tree diameter at breast height (DBH) ($r^2$ = 0.95, P < 0.05) and sapwood area (SA) ($r^2$ = 0.98, P < 0.05). Relationships between SFD and DBH ($r^2$ = 0.25), as well as SA ($r^2$ = 0.17) were weak. Daily SFD of Quercus serrata Thunb was closely related to VPD and RR. Although operating at different time scales, RR and VPD were important interacting environmental controls of tree water use. SFD increased with increasing VPD (<1 kPa) and RR. SWC had a considerable effect on stand transpiration during the drought period. The relationships between SFD, VPD and RR were distorted when SWC dropped below 35%.
Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) production in Ghana is limited by the root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita, and yield losses over 70% have been experienced in farmer fields. Major management strategies of the root-knot nematode (RKN), such as rotation and nematicide application, and crop rotation are either little efficient and harmful to environments, with high control cost, respectively. Therefore, this study aims to examine morphometric variations of RKN populations in Ghana, using principal component analysis (PCA), of which the information can be utilized for the development of tomato cultivars resistant to RKN. Ninety (90) second-stage juveniles (J2) and 16 adult males of M. incognita were morphometrically characterized. Six and five morphometric variables were measured for adult males and second-stage juveniles (J2) respectively. Morphological measurements showed differences among the adult males and second-stage juveniles (J2). A plot of PC1 and PC2 for M. incognita male populations showed clustering into three main groups. Populations from Asuosu and Afrancho (Group I) were more closely related compared to populations from Tuobodom and Vea (Group II). There was however a single nematode from Afrancho (AF4) that fell into Group III. Biplots for male populations indicate, body length, DEGO, greatest body width, and gubernaculum length serving as variables distinguishing Group 1 and Group 2 populations. These same groupings from the PCA were reflected in the dendogram generated using Agglomerative Hierarchical Clustering (AHC). This study provides the first report on morphometric characterisation of M. incognita male and juvenile populations in Ghana showing significant morphological variation.
