This study was conducted in order to examine how ethical climate, ethical sensitivity, and moral distress influence social workers' job satisfaction, burnout, and turnover intention. First, social workers' perception of ethical climate in their organization enhanced job satisfaction and lowered turnover intention, but its association with burnout was not statistically significant. Second, ethical sensitivity was found to have a positive effect on job satisfaction, and to increase burnout and turnover intention. Third, moral distress, which is induced by social workers' direct experiences, was found to lower job satisfaction and increase burnout and turnover intention.

This study evaluated the moral sensitivity, self-assertiveness, ethical decision-making confidence and their correlations, and the factors that influence ethical decision-making confidence among nurses working in a long-term care hospital. Overall, 149 nurses working in a long-term care hospital in G Province were evaluated. The date was collected from November 30 2019 to December 18, 2019 and analyzed using SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. The mean of moral sensitivity among nurses was 4.94, the mean of self-assertiveness was 3.17 and the mean of ethical decision-making confidence was 3.49. The self-assertiveness will, according to the general characteristics, was significantly different according to experienced moral distress, and there was a significant difference in the degree of ethical decision-making confidence according to social positions and experience of ethical education. There were positive correlations between the ethical decision-making confidence and moral sensitivity (r=.382, p<.001) and self-assertiveness (r=.224, p<.01). Regression analysis revealed that the factors that significantly influenced ethical decision-making confidence were moral sensitivity, self-assertiveness and ethical education during nursing practice, which explained 25.0% of variance in ethical decision-making confidence. Therefore, to improve ethical decision-making confidence of nurses, programs should be developed that improve moral sensitivity and self-assertiveness by promoting ethical education.

This study is a descriptive research study to identify the relationship between the performance of end-of-Life care of ICU nurses, moral distress, ethical climate, difficulties in end-of-life care, and positive psychological capital. Data were collected with structured questionnaires from 144 ICU nurses at a university hospital in J city, Gyeongnam, from October to November in 2020, and analyzed using SPSS/WIN 21.0. The subjects' performance of end-of-life care of ICU nurses is significantly different depending on marital status, experiences of end-of-life care education. The variables that had a significant effect on the performance of end-of-life care among ICU nurses were positive psychological capital and difficulties in end-of-life care. The explanatory power was 24.8%. Based on these results, it is necessary to intervention program and education to reduce difficulties in end-of-life care and increase positive psychological capital for ICU nurses.
Purpose - This study aims to investigate a solution to reduce the negative reactions arising from the performance of duties or the job distress of workers in the service industry, because human resource statistics regarding workers in the service sector have been unreported, while concerns regarding exposure to emotional exertion and poor working conditions have been continuously increasing. Research design, data, and methodology - This study specifically focused on workers in highway service areas. It differs from previous studies because it involves the perspective of the person-organization fit and regards workers' cognition of leaders through the psychological distance toward the leader and the contact frequency between workers and leaders within the framework of the leader-individual fit. Moreover, this study highlights the role of the self-leadership of workers as an important factor that becomes manifested in the individual-level fit to the organization. Hence, this study investigates whether the positive role of the above factors, in turn, could reduce job distress. Workers from highway service areas in Gyeonggi-do province provided data; 141 valid questionnaires are collected. SPSS 19.0 and AMOS 19.0 were used to test the reliability and validity of constructs. Simple regression, multiple regression, and 3 step mediation tests were used to test the hypotheses after the correlation tests. Results - Results indicated that leader-member contact frequency and psychological distance have negative effects on job distress but positive effects on self-leadership. A mediation test revealed that self-leadership, in the relationships between contact frequency and job distress and between psychological distance and job distress, resulted in partial mediation and full mediation, respectively. Conclusions - The result can be understood through two different possible explanations. First, service area workers generally possess a positive perspective toward their leaders. This can be interpreted to mean that increased contact frequency and psychological distance would be considered as supports from the leader, rather than intrusive controls or management schemes. Therefore, the management in highway service areas should invest efforts in increasing contact frequency as well as maximizing psychological similarities by adopting the viewpoints of workers in terms of moral and ethical management, to reduce the workers' job distress. The results relating to self-leadership also indicate that increased contact frequency must be accompanied by intentions for the effective promotion of workers' self-leadership. It also signifies the necessity of a strategic approach by leaders to induce workers to perceive "in-group"ness as suggested both by the similarity-attraction theory and by the social identity theory. In addition, the results of the mediation test of self-leadership indicate that because workers' self-leadership activates upon increased contact frequency by the leader, it should not be a means of control and should not be utilized only from the perspective of management. It is also suggested that strategies such as transfer of authority could have a positive effect in promoting the expansion of self-influence from workers.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate pediatric nurses' perceptions regarding in end-of-life care and turnover intention. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed among 111 hospital nurses. Pediatric nurses' perceptions of obstacles and supportive behaviors were measured using the Pediatric Nurses' Perceptions of End of Life Care Questionnaire which was translated into Korean and turnover intention was measured using the Korean Nurse Turnover Intention Scale (K-NTIS). Results: The supportive behavior with the highest perceived magnitude was 'Physicians who are compassionate, but very clear about prognosis.' The obstacle with the highest perceived magnitude was 'Instigating painful treatments when there is no hope of recovery.' Pediatric nurses' perceptions of obstacles in end-of-life care showed statistically significant differences depending on whether nurses received end-of-life care education (t=2.02, p=.046). The perception of obstacles in end-of-life care was positively correlated with turnover intention (intensity r=.28, p=.002) (frequency r=.20, p=.027). Conclusion: These results suggest that pediatric nurses' perception of obstacles and supportive behaviors in end-of-life care need to be assessed when considering turnover intention. Furthermore, psychological counseling should be offered to nurses to prevent burnout and reduce moral distress which is correlated with the turnover rate.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the meaning and essence of good nursing from the perspective of patients undergoing hemodialysis. Methods: The data were collected through in-depth interviews of five hemodialysis patients who have been dialyzed for one year or longer. The data analysis was conducted using the Giorgi's phenomenological method. Results: The findings included six constituents and 13 sub-constituents. The six constituents were 'prompt and skillful response to mitigate distress', 'careful attention to provide relief', 'individualized education to promote self-management', 'an intimate relationship to regain isolated ego', 'warmhearted support to encourage strength to live in a exhausting life', and 'providing of comfortable environment to maintain stability'. Conclusion: From the perspective of the hemodialysis patients, the concept of good nursing should stem from the integration of nurses' scientific knowledge, expert skills, and moral sensitivity. The finding suggests that strategies to develop nursing interventions for hemodialysis patients will be required on the basis of understanding of their sociocultural contexts and familism.

Bullying is the intentional, unprovoked abuse of power by one or more children to inflict pain on or cause distress to another child on repeated occasions. Bullying can be considered to be a form of child abuse:peer abuse. Victims suffer adverse effects in the short and long term. If bullying is regarded as a form of abuse then professionals have a duty to detect it, take it seriously, and ensure that it is deal with to reduce the child's suffering and minimize the potential long term effects. This study is aimed preliminarily the development of cognitive behavioral group therapy for school bullied. 202 normal middle school freshman responded to self report scales- Offer's Self-Image Questionnaire-Revised, Children's Depression Inventory, Spielberger State/Trait Anxiety scale, and Defining Issues Test. The data were analyzed with Pearson's correlation to test the relationship among the above 4 variables. Self Image, depression, and anxiety were correlated strongly each other. But moral development was not correlated with self image, depression, and anxiety. Five school bullied students were referred by their teacher for school maladjustment. The author tried 12 sessions of Cognitive-Behavioral group therapy and assessed their behaviors pre- and post intervention by above 4 scales. There were no significant different intervention effects statistically. But It is meaningful that improvement of psychological mindedness in diary written by subject in treatment sessions
Purpose : This integrative review aimed to synthesize studies on intensive care unit (ICU) nurses' attitude, perceptions, and experiences toward end-of-life care decision-making. Methods : Using Whittermore and Knafl (2005)'s methods, we identified and synthesized research articles published in domestic journals between the years 2003 and 2019 and evaluated the quality of selected articles using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. Results : In the 13 studies reviewed, 12 were published prior to enactment of the "The Act for Hospice and Palliative Care and Decision-Making about Life-Sustaining Treatment (2018)." All nine quantitative studies identified were based on cross-sectional descriptive survey. In four qualitative studies, content analysis (n=2) and phenomenology (n=2) were used. Overall, ICU nurses were well-aware of the necessity of communicating and limiting life-sustaining treatments. Many ICU nurses had positive attitude towards limiting life-sustaining treatments to promote patients' comfort and dignity. Although nurses were willing to take active roles, they also reported having experienced high stress in the process of decision-making and implementation. Conclusions : It is important to prepare ICU nurses with proper knowledge and attitude regarding the topic area. It is also equally important to develop systems to support nurses' emotional stress and moral distress during communication, decision-making, and implementation.

In the era of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), social distancing and strict visitation policies at hospitals have made it difficult for medical staff to provide high-quality end-of-life (EOL) care to dying patients and their families. There are various issues related to EOL care, including psychological problems of patients and their families, difficulties in EOL decision-making, the complicated grief of the bereaved family, moral distress, and exhaustion of medical staff. In relation to these issues, we aimed to discuss practical considerations in providing high-quality EOL care in the COVID-19 pandemic. First, medical staff should discuss advance care planning as early as possible and use the parallel planning strategy. Second, medical staff should play a role in facilitating patient-family communication. Third, medical staff should actively and proactively evaluate and alleviate dying patients' symptoms using non-verbal communication. Lastly, medical staff should provide care for family members of the dying patient, who may be particularly vulnerable to post-bereavement problems in the COVID-19 era. Establishing a system of screening high-risk individuals for complicated grief and connecting them to bereavement support services might be considered. Despite the challenging and limited environment, providing EOL care is essential for patients to die with dignity in peace and for the remaining family to return to life after the loved one's death. Efforts considering the practical issues faced by all medical staff and healthcare institutions caring for dying patients should be made.
