  • Maxwell displacement current (MDC) measurement has been employed to study the dielectric property of Langmuir-films. MDC flowing across monolayers is analyzed using a rod-like molecular model. A linear relationship between the monolayer compression speed and the molecular area Am. Compression speed was about 30, 40, 50mm/min. Langmuir-Blodgett(LB)layers of Arachidic acid deposited by LB method were deposited onto slide glass as Y-type film. The structure of manufactured device is Au/Arachidic acid/Al, the number of accumulated layers are 9~21. Also, we then examined of the Metal-Insulator-Metal(MIM) device by means of I-V. The I-V characteristics of the device are measured from -3 to +3[V]. The insulation property of a thin film is better as the distance between electrodes is larger.

Selective Laser Direct Patterning of Indium Tin Oxide on Transparent Oxide Semiconductor Thin Films

  • For a wider application of laser direct patterning, selective laser ablation of indium tin oxide (ITO) film on transparent oxide semiconductor (TOS) thin film was carried out using a diode-pumped Q-switched Nd:YVO4 laser at a wavelength of 1064 nm. In case of the laser ablation of ITO on indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) film, both of ITO and IGZO films were fully etched for all the conditions of the laser beams even though IGZO monolayer was not ablated at the same laser beam condition. On the contrary, in case of the laser ablation of ITO on zinc oxide (ZnO) film, it was possible to etch ITO selectively with a slight damage on ZnO layer. The selective laser ablation is expected to be due to the different coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) between ITO and ZnO.

Investigation of Functional 6061 Aluminum Alloy Oxide Film with Anodization Voltage and its Corrosion Resistance

  • This study investigated the formation of oxide films on 6061 aluminum (Al) alloy and their impacts on corrosion resistance efficiency by regulating anodization voltage. Despite advantageous properties inherent to Al alloys, their susceptibility to corrosion remains a significant limitation. Thus, enhancing corrosion resistance through developing protective oxide films on alloy surfaces is paramount. The first anodization was performed for 6 h with an applied voltage of 30, 50, or 70 V on the 6061 Al alloy. The second anodization was performed for 0.5 h by applying 40 V after removing the existing oxide film. Resulting oxide film's shape and roughness were analyzed using field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Wettability and corrosion resistance were compared before and after a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) using an FDTS (1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-Perfluorodecyltrichlorosilane) solution. As the first anodization voltage increased, the final oxide film's thickness and pore diameter also increased, resulting in higher surface roughness. Consequently, all samples exhibited superhydrophilic behavior before coating. However, contact angle after coating increased as the first anodization voltage increased. Notably, the sample anodized at 70 V with superhydrophobic characteristics after coating demonstrated the highest corrosion resistance performance.

  • The dielectric constant of a monolayer on a material surface was calculated with consideration of the local field acting on polar molecules with a permanent dipole moment, and the interaction working between the molecules and a material. It is revealed that the dielectric relaxation time r of monolayers in the isotropic polar orientational phase is determined using a linear relationship between the monolayers compression speed a and the molecular area. The dielectric relaxation time of phospholipid monolayers was examined on the basis of analysis developed here.

  • The rate of hydrolysis of Langmuir monolayer films of biodegradable polylactide (PLA) derivates was investigated at the air/water interface. The present study investigated such parameters as surface pressure, pH, and time. The hydrolysis of polyester monolayers depended strongly on the subphase pH, the concentration of active ions. Under the conditions studied here, polymer monolayers showed faster rates of hydrolysis when they were exposed to a basic subphase rather than they did when exposed to acidic or neutral subphases. By increasing the concentration of the degradation medium, the hydrolytic rate of dl-PLA monolayers was accelerated (accelerating effect). In addition, the basic hydrolysis of modified PLA with small amounts of hydrophilic (benzyloxycarbonyl) methyl morpholine-2,5-dione or glycolide was much faster than that of the PLA homopolymer.

  • Industrial use of physical vapor deposition(PVD) has been widely expanded during last two decades, and in the mean time plasma assistance in PVD has become an essential tool in preparing compound films with dense microstructure. The principles of electron beam-based plating, balanced and unbalanced magnetron sputtering and cathodic arc deposition. consisting three basic configuration of plasma assisted PVD(PAPVD)process, were reviewed. Recent technical development in PVD coating process were discussed. This paper tries to show tendency for developing new coating film on cutting tools.

  • We have investgated the photoisomerization using light irradiation 8A5H LB film accumulated by monolayer and three layers on an ITO. We determined electrochemical measurement by using cyclic voltammetry with a three-electrode system, An Ag/AgCl reference electrode, a platinum wire counter electrode and LB film-coated ITO working electrode measured in 0.1mol/L NaClO$_4$ solution. The scan rate was 100mv/s.

  • The basic electrochemical and photochemical behavior of ultrathin mono- and hetero-type LB film of amphiphilic Ru bipyridine complex adsorbed on ITO electrode by the Langmuir- Blodgett(LB) method as monolayer and alternating multilayer state. With theoretical equation of cyclic voltammetry for redox species, the cyclic voltammogram were simulated successfully taking account the interaction parameters. We could fit almost all measured voltammograms with k$^{\circ}$=72s$\^$-1/, ${\alpha}$$\sub$a/=0.44, ${\alpha}$$\sub$c/=0.54, $\Gamma$$\sub$T/=1.4${\times}$10$\^$-10/, k=0.015s$\^$-1/ values. The AFM images of mono and hetero type LB film surfaces on ITO were also studied.

Evaluation of Antiwear Performance of Mono/multilayer LB Molecular Films (단층/다층 LB 분자막의 내마멸 성능 평가)

  • The antiwear properties of amphiphilic monolayers and composite multilayer on silicon surface were investigated using micro­tribometer and Auger Electron Spectroscopy. Langmuir­Blodgett (LB) monolayers from behenic acid, 2,4­heneicosanedione(HD) and its lopper complex((HD)$_2$Cu) were fabricated on silicon surface and the composite multilayer of 5­bilayer of (HD)$_2$Cu was fabricated on the surface of octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) self­assembled monolayer (SAM). We observed that LB monolayers and the composite multilayer exhibited a steady and excellent friction response when compared with the OTS SAM. These LB mono and multilayer also showed much higher wear­resistance than the OTS SAM.
