  • As a preliminary study of finding the relationship between the force at the grip and the success rate during putting stroke, the putting grip sensor system using FSR sensors was developed. The system consisted of the hardware which had the sensor part with 8 sensors per putting glove and data acquisition part as well as the software which had the real-time monitoring program and the offline post-processing program. After experiments with elite-golfer using this system, it is possible to suggest the proper force ranges at the grip during putting stroke.

  • Recently, the wind power has experienced great attentions and growths among many renewable energy sources. To increase the power generation performance and economic feasibility, the size of wind turbine (WT) is getting bigger and most of wind power plants are being constructed on offshore. Therefore, the maintenance cost is relatively high because boats or helicopters are needed operators to reach the WT. In order to combat this kind of problem, remote monitoring and control system for the WT is needed. In this paper, the small-scale WT monitoring and control system is implemented using wireless sensor network technologies. To do this, sensor devices are installed to measure and send the WT status and control device is installed to receive control message for specific operation. The WT is managed by control center through graphic user interface (GUI) based monitoring and control software. Also, smart device based web-program is implemented to make the remote monitoring of the WT possible even though operators are not in control room.

  • Early detection in real-time response of slope movements ensures tremendous saving of lives and repair costs from catastrophic disaster. Therefore, it is essential to constantly monitor the performance and integrity of slope-stabilizing structures such as Rock bolt, Nail and Pile during or after installation. We developed a novel monitoring system using Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensor. It's advantages are highly sensitivity, small dimension and electro-magnetic immunity. capability of multiplexing, system integrity, remote sensing - these serve real-time health monitoring of the structures. Real-time strain measurement by the signal processing program is shown graphically and it gives a warning sound when the monitored strain state exceeds a given threshold level so that any sign of abnormal disturbance on the spot can be easily perceived.

  • The OPS (Optical Particle Sensor) using light scattering from the particles (real-time measurement without physical contact to the particles) can be used for cleanroom or atmospheric environment monitoring. For particles smaller than 300 nm, the detection efficiency becomes lower as scattered light decreases with particle size. To obtain higher detection efficiency with small particles, the flow field in particle chamber and the detection volume should be designed optimally to achieve maximum scattered light from the particles. In this study, a commercial computational fluid dynamics software FLUENT was used to simulate the gas flow field and particle trajectories with various optical chamber designs for 300 nm PSL particle. For estimation of laser viewing volume, we used a commercial computational optical design program ZEMAX. The results will be a great help in the development of OPS which can measure small particles with higher detection efficiency.

  • A fermentation system was supplemented with a device for the measurement of the durations of alkali pump feeding for automatic pH control and an A/D convertor for precise monitoring of pH value by computer. A software program was developed to measure buffer capacities from the pH signal and the pH control signal during fermentation. By measuring the buffer capacity on-line, levels of acetic acid were estimated by a software sensor using pH signal in a fermentation process of E.coli growing in a minimal medium. The measured values of acetic acid showed correlation to those of estimated by the software sensor. Lacitic acid production was also successfully estimated by the values of buffer capacities measured on-line.

  • Extensive research effort has been made during the last decade to utilize wireless smart sensors for evaluating and monitoring structural integrity of civil engineering structures. The wireless smart sensor commonly has sensing and embedded computation capabilities as well as wireless communication that provide strong potential to overcome shortcomings of traditional wired sensor systems such as high equipment and installation cost. However, sensor malfunctioning particularly in case of long-term monitoring and unreliable wireless communication in harsh environment are the critical issues that should be properly tackled for a wider adoption of wireless smart sensors in practice. This study presents a wireless smart sensor network(WSSN) that can estimate unmeasured responses for the purpose of data recovery at unresponsive sensor nodes. A software program that runs on WSSN is developed to estimate the unmeasured responses from the measured using the Kalman filter. The performance of the developed network software is experimentally verified by estimating unmeasured acceleration responses using a simply-supported beam.

  • This paper has focused on the development of an educational sensor network (ESN) based on wireless sensor networks(WSN) and pervasive monitoring systems for students' activity during scientific experiments. A number of WSN systems have been proposed with integrated wireless transmission, mounted sensor boards and local processing. However, there is no trail to employ WSN on the educational field. In this paper, to facilitate research and development using wireless sensor network and multi-sensor data fusion, the educational sensor network (ESN) hardware development platform is presented. The ESN project is conducted over one semester time period (Spring Semesters). It involves approximately twenty middle school students who enrolled a gifted program in Kongju National University. Though under prepared, these students are in general highly motivated to learning specially when presented with the ESN project. An ESN project such as this is expected to provide an excellent means for teaching and learning scientific and mathematical principles.

  • A black-box program was implemented in order to monitor abnormal symptoms of human body irregularly occurring during sleep. The system consists of sensor probing body signals, auxiliary devices such as the alarm, lamp, network camera, and signal monitoring computer. Various types of sensors, PPG, ECG, EEG, temperature, respiration sensor, G-sensor, and microphone were used to more exactly identify the causes of abnormal symptoms. If a symptom occurs, the system records the patient's condition to provide information being utilized in the treatment. The sensors are attached on some locations of body being proper to check a specific type of abnormal reaction. Based on the normal range and type of measurement data, criteria of signal levels were set to distinguish abnormal reaction. An abnormal signal being probed, the program starts to operate the lamp, alarm, and network camera at the same time and stores the signal and video data.

  • This study reports a fiber-optic sensor detecting biomolecule by simultaneously monitoring localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) from gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) of ca. $50{\pm}5$ nm attached on one end of optical fiber and surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) of the reporter molecules adsorbed on the gold surfaces as an additional sensing tool. The sensor was fabricated by immobilizing Au NPs on one end of an optical fiber by chemical reaction. LSPR and SERS signals of the sensor were measured using various refractive indices solutions. Finally, the sensor was applied to observe real-time LSPR sensor-gram and SERS spectra of the reporter molecule of 4-aminothiphenol during the antibody-antigen reaction of interferon-gamma (IFN-${\gamma}$) as a proof-concept experiment of biological applications.

  • In this paper, the web-based monitoring system is developed for the effective process monitoring of mold manufacturing using web. In developed system, the cutting force for monitoring the manufacturing condition is measured using hall-sensor that is low cost and useful to be installed in a machine tool indirectly. Specially, the current of main spindle in a machine tool is converted into cutting force by various experiments. For effective web-based monitoring, the program which runs in the local computer of client is made to exchange message between a server and a client by making of ActiveX control and the result of manufacturing is shown on web-browser by Ch language. The developed system in this study is the foundation of establishing E-manufacturing in mold factory.
