With the advent of the Internet-of-Things paradigm, the amount of data production has grown exponentially and the user demand for responsive consumption of data has increased significantly. Herein, we present DART, a fast and lightweight stream processing framework for the IoT environment. Because the DART framework targets a geospatially distributed environment of heterogeneous devices, the framework provides (1) an end-user tool for device registration and application authoring, (2) automatic worker node monitoring and task allocations, and (3) runtime management of user applications with fault tolerance. To maximize performance, the DART framework adopts an actor model in which applications are segmented into microtasks and assigned to an actor following a single responsibility. To prove the feasibility of the proposed framework, we implemented the DART system. We also conducted experiments to show that the system can significantly reduce computing burdens and alleviate network load by utilizing the idle resources of intermediate edge devices.
This review paper presents guidelines which stakeholders use in addressing on-farm tree planting configuration, establishment, tending, silvi- cultural management, management of pests and diseases, challenges and opportunities as practiced in the medium to high potential areas of Kenya. The tree planting configurations discussed includes blocks planting (woodlot), boundary, compound planting, home/fruit gardens, trees intercropped or mixed with pasture, trees on riverbanks and roadside. Participatory monitoring and evaluation techniques have been highlighted. The main challenges facing tree planting activities include culture and attitude of local people, land and tree tenure, inadequate technical support, lack of recognition and integration of technical information and indigenous knowledge, capital and labour shortages, lack of appropriate incentives measures, damage by domestic and wild animals, conflict over trees on the boundary and policy and legal issues. This guideline targets forest managers, extension agents, students and other practitioners in policy and day to day decision making processes in Kenya.

Reduction unit is one of the most important components for railway vehicle because torque of motor must be transmitted to wheels of vehicle by reduction unit. However, According to advanced studies, it has been often broke down due to the damage, fatigue and wear of gear. To solve this problem, defect diagnosis methods of gear have been mainly using the vibration diagnosis technology through vibration waveform and frequency analysis. However, We should know vibration characteristics of normal state reduction unit prior to defect diagnosis. So in this paper, We had analyzed vibration characteristics of reduction unit in order to utilize monitoring system development. Comparison of targets is the vibration characteristics of normal state reduction unit about Electric Multiple Unit(EMU) and the High-speed trains(KTX, KTX II).
This study explores whether Koreans exploit their native coda-neutralization process when recognizing words in Korean continuous speech. According to the phonological rules in Korean, coda-neutralization process must come before the liaison process, as long as the latter(i.e. liaison process) occurs between 'words', which results in liaison-consonants being coda-neutralized ones such as /b/, /d/, or /g/, rather than non-neutralized ones like /p/, /t/, /k/, /ʧ/, /ʤ/, or /s/. Consequently, if Korean listeners use their native coda-neutralization rules when processing speech input, word recognition will be hampered when non-neutralized consonants precede vowel-initial targets. Word-spotting and word-monitoring tasks were conducted in Experiment 1 and 2, respectively. In both experiments, listeners recognized words faster and more accurately when vowel-initial target words were preceded by coda-neutralized consonants than when preceded by coda non-neutralized ones. The results show that Korean listeners exploit the coda-neutralization process when processing their native spoken language.

Achieving sustainability targets on construction projects has increasingly become one of the prime strategies for construction organizations. To provide more detailed guidance on sustainability implementation on projects, Construction Industry Institute (CII) Research Team (RT) 304 developed a catalog of the Construction Phase Sustainability Actions (CPSAs). The primary objective of this paper was the development of two support tools, the CPSA Screening Tool and the CPSA Implementation Index, that could be used to enable efficient application of CPSAs, support sustainability-related decisions, and measure CPSA implementation and performance. The authors developed the tools in four stages: conceptual, detailed planning, tool programming, and testing. The tools were then demonstrated on a capital project to confirm their efficacy and applicability. This paper presents the background, inputs and outputs, and the algorithms of each tool. The CPSA Screening Tool can prioritize the CPSAs most relevant to a project; the CPSA Implementation Index enables continuous monitoring of implementation levels.
The chronic and acute effects of hyperglycemia affecting cognition and work are as important as those of hypoglycemia. Its impact, considering that majority of diabetic patients fail to reach therapeutic targets, would be potentially significant. Self monitoring of blood glucose, recognition of body cues and management interventions should be geared not only towards avoidance of disabling hypoglycemia, but also towards unwanted hyperglycemia. Over the long term, chronic hyperglycemia is a risk for cognitive decline. Acute episodes of hyperglycemia, above 15 mmol/L have also been shown to affect cognitive motor tasks. Maintaining blood sugar to avoid hyperglycemia in diabetic workers will help promote safety at work.

SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems for remote monitoring, data acquisition and control are applied to major industrial infrastructures including power, water and railroad. Recently, there are many researches on key management scheme for secure communication due to change to the open network environment. These systems are located at far distances and are connected to the main control center through various types of communication methods. Due to the nature of these systems, they are becoming the significant targets of cyber attack. We propose an efficient key management scheme which is established on ID-based cryptosystem without an expensive computation on MTU (Master Terminal Unit), Sub-MTU, and RTU (Remote Terminal Unit). The proposed method is secure and effective in key management among multiple legitimate devices.
Cracks in railway sleeper are an inevitable condition and has a significant influence on the safety of railway system. Although the technology of railway sleeper condition monitoring using machine learning (ML) models has been widely applied, the crack recognition accuracy is still in need of improvement. In this paper, a two-stage method using edge detection and convolutional neural network (CNN) is proposed to reduce the burden of computing for detecting cracks in railway sleepers with high accuracy. In the first stage, the edge detection is carried out by using the 3×3 neighborhood range algorithm to find out the possible crack areas, and a series of mathematical morphology operations are further used to eliminate the influence of noise targets to the edge detection results. In the second stage, a CNN model is employed to classify the results of edge detection. Through the analysis of abundant images of sleepers with cracks, it is proved that the cracks detected by the neighborhood range algorithm are superior to those detected by Sobel and Canny algorithms, which can be classified by proposed CNN model with high accuracy.

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), which provides images of targets using radio signals, enables monitoring at all times regardless of weather conditions. In this paper, the SAR system was installed on the test aircraft to collect SAR raw data on the ground and the sea, and the results of image formation using the backprojection algorithm were presented.
Its ability to measure the polarization of light at four frequencies makes the KVN a "plasma physics observatory" that can probe the internal physics (e.g., magnetic fields, outflow geometries) of AGN radio jets and cores. We initiated a Key Science Program, the Plasma-physics of Active Galactic Nuclei (PAGaN) project, dedicated to polarimetric monitoring of 14 radio-bright AGN. We have been able to measure the Faraday rotation measure of the cores of our targets as function of frequency; the observed scaling relation is in good agreement with conically expanding outflows to first order. We are further probing a polarized hotspot in the jet of 3C84 and possible systematic differences in the Faraday rotation in BL Lacertae objects and flat spectrum radio quasars.
