Dc resistivity monitoring has been increasingly used in order to understand the changes of subsurface conditions in terms of conductivity. The commonly adopted interpretation approach which separately inverts time-lapse data may generate inversion artifacts due to measurement error. Eventually the contaminated error amplifies the artifacts when reconstructing the difference images to quantitatively estimate the change of ground condition. In order to alleviate the problems, we defined the subsurface structure as four dimensional (4-D) space-time model and developed 4-D inversion algorithm which can calculate the reasonable subsurface structure continuously changing in time even when the material properties change during data measurements. In this paper, we discussed two case histories of resistivity monitoring to study the ground condition change when the properties of the subsurface material were artificially altered by injecting conductive materials into the ground: (1) dye tracer experiment to study the applicability of electrical resistivity tomography to monitoring of water movement in soil profile and (2) the evaluation of cement grouting performed to reinforce the ground. Through these two case histories, we demonstrated that the 4-D resistivity imaging technique is very powerful to precisely delineate the change of ground condition. Particularly owing to the 4-D inversion algorithm, we were able to reconstruct the history of the change of subsurface material property.
The remote monitoring and warning system for dangerous chemicals is designed with the concept of the Cyber-Physical System (CPS) in this paper. The real-time perception, dynamic control, and information service of major hazards chemicals are realized in this CPS system. The CPS system architecture, the physical layer and the applacation layer, are designed in this paper. The terminal node is mainly composed of the field collectors which complete the data acquisition of sensors and video in the physical layers, and the use of application layer makes CPS system safer and more reliable to monitor the hazardous chemicals. The cloud application layer completes the risk identification and the prediction of the major hazard sources. The early intelligent warning of the major dangerous chemicals is realized and the security risk images are given in the cloud application layer. With the CPS technology, the remote network of hazardous chemicals has been completed, and a major hazard monitoring and accident warning online system is formed. Through the experiment of the terminal node, it can be proved that the terminal node can complete the mass data collection and classify. With this experiment it can be obtained the CPS system is safe and effective. In order to verify feasible, the multi-risk warning based on CPS is simulated, and results show that the system solves the problem of hazardous chemicals enterprises safety management.

This paper presents the performance analysis of a long-range marine communication system developed for monitoring the fishing gears. LoRa based buoys were developed to monitor fishing gears. The buoy sends its coordinates along with other relevant information to the central monitoring station via a gateway. During the experiment, a up to 30 km of communication between a buoy and a gateway was successfully tested.
In this study, the spill and leak system is developed to provide real-time remote monitoring of industrial complexes where chemical accidents have been occurring every year. The spill and leak monitoring system uses IR-RCD equipment mounted on a 70m-high steel tower to detect chemical substances, thereby detecting chemical accidents such as leaks, fires, and explosions in real time. If IR-RCD equipment can actually detect chemical substances at a long distance, accurate and rapid initial response can be expected. Therefore, in order to confirm that IR-RCD equipment can detect chemical leakage accidents occurring at a long distance, acetone was selected as the experimental substance and a detection experiment was designed. The experiment was conducted using the acetone pool evaporation method at the wharf which was located 1.5 km away from IR-RCD equipment, and it was confirmed whether IR-RCD equipment could detect acetone in real time through the control monitor.

This paper deals with monitoring of grinding wheel wear in grinding process. A monitoring system is developed in which a laser scanning micrometer is used to measure the circumferential shape as well as the axial shape of grinding wheel. The monitoring system is applied to grinding machines. The experiment results show that the monitoring system is useful not only for monitoring the amount of wear in grinding wheel but also for measuring the apparent diameter of the grinding wheel.

Since power system is switching to smart grid, on-line monitoring technology has become necessary for underground distribution power cable. Therefore, the application of DTS(Distributed Temperature Sensing) technology using OFCPC(Optical Fiber Composite Power Cable) capable of monitoring underground distribution power cables has been developed. These can bring about reductions in faults and increases in operating capacity of underground distribution system. To date, the test-bed of optical fiber composite power cable on-line monitoring system has been constructed. Then, matters to be improved have been drawn through verification experiments. This paper presents the improvement and experiment results of the optical fiber composite power cable on-line monitoring system to apply to underground distribution lines in the field.
The effectiveness of many greenhouse environment control methodologies depends on the growth information of crops. Acquisition of the growth information of crops requires a non-invasive and continuous monitoring method. Crop growth monitoring system using digital imaging technique was developed to conduct non-destructive and intact plant growth analyses. The monitoring system automatically measures crop growth information sends an appropriate control signal to the nutrient solution supplying system. To develop the monitoring system, a linear model that explains the relationship between the fresh weight and the top projected leaf area of a lettuce plant was developed from an experiment. The monitoring system was evaluated buy successive lettuce growing experiments. Results of the experiments showed that the developed system could estimate the fresh weight of lettuce from a lettuce image by using the linear model and generate an EC control signal according to the lettuce growth stage.
Flap monitoring is important for flap salvage. Although there are many methods to observe the flap, practical methods mostly used are subjective methods. Recording flap surface temperature is one of the objective methods of flap monitoring. We used an infra-red thermometer to simplify monitoring of the flap temperature. 60 groin flaps of SD rats are used in the experiment. Artificial arterial or venous insufficiency was made and the surface temperature was checked and compared with body temperature. In the results, the temperature of the arterial clamped flaps was lower than that of body and the mean difference was $0.3^{\circ}C$ after 20 minutes of clamping. In the vein-clamped flaps, the mean decrease was $0.4^{\circ}C$ after 30 minutes of clamping. The all difference of the temperature between the flaps and body was statistically significant. Our results suggest that flap monitoring by infra-red thermometer is simple, useful and helpful to evaluate the flap status.
Recently, according to change of lifestyle and increase of concerning in health, needs of the smart clothing based on the vital sign monitoring have increased. Along with this trend, smart clothing for ECG monitoring has been studied various way as textile electrode, clothing design and so on. Smart clothing for ECG monitoring can become a comfortable system which enables continuous vital sign monitoring in daily use. But, smart clothing for ECG monitoring has a weakness on artifact during motion. One of the motion artifact caused by shifting of the electrode position was affected skin change by motion. The aim of this study was to suggest electrode locations for clothing of ECG monitoring to reduce of motion artifacts. Therefore, change of skin surface during the movement were measured and analyzed in order to find location to minimize motion artifacts in ECG monitoring clothing by 3D motion capture. For the experiment, the subjects consisted of 5 males and 5 females in their 20' with average physique. As a result, the optimal location for ECG monitoring was deducted under the bust line and scapula which have least motion artifact. These locations were abstracted to be least affected by movement in this research.

In this study, an experiment was performed to monitor the two-dimensional shape of a cantilever composite structure using fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors. To monitor the shape of a composite structure, a deflection equation developed by NASA was applied and a composite beam attached to three FBG sensors was used. In the experiment, the shape of the composite beam was successfully estimated and an error was evaluated by comparing a real deflection. The error increased with real deflection; therefore, it was compensated by using the linear relationship between the error and the real deflection. After compensating the error, the measured deflection shows good agreement with the real deflection. Finally, the experiment shows that the FBG sensor and the deflection equation are suitable for monitoring the deflection curve of the beam structure with compensation of the error.
