  • In this paper, we present a new shape descriptor, which is named Poisson equation-Fourier-Mellin moment Descriptor. We solve the Poisson equation in the shape area, and use the solution to get feature function, which are then integrated using Fourier-Mellin moment to represent the shape. This method develops the Poisson equation-geometric moment Descriptor proposed by Lena Gorelick, and keeps both advantages of Poisson equation-geometric moment and Fourier-Mellin moment. It is proved better than Poisson equation-geometric moment Descriptor in shape recognition and classification experiments.

  • In this paper an application technique of moment equation method to solution of nonlinear rolling equation of motion of ships is investigated. The exciting moment in the equation of rolling motion of ships is described as non-white noise. This non-white exciting moment is generated through use of a shaping filter. These coupled equations are used to generate moment equations. The nonstationary responses of the nonlinear system are obtained. The results are compared with those of a linear system.

  • In this paper, we would like to develop the bending collapse specific equation of aluminum members which are usually used in light-weight vehicle or electromobiles. The result of the developed equation are compared with that of test and finite element methods as the moment-rotational angle curves. Three types of aluminum members are tested with the pure bending collapse test rig. PAM-CRASH and ABAQUS program are used for finite element analysis. As the result the developed bending collapse governing equation is accurate in estimating the yield moment and the maximum moment. Especially, in the case of the local buckling and the delayed buckling, the developed equation is better effective than F.E.M.

  • The dynamic characteristics of a system can be critically influenced by system uncertainty, so the dynamic system must be analyzed stochastically in consideration of system uncertainty. This study presents the stochastic model of a nonlinear dynamic system with uncertain parameters under nonstationary stochastic inputs. And this stochastic system is analyzed by a new stochastic process closure method and moment equation method. The first moment equation is numerically evaluated by Runge-Kutta method and the second moment equation is numerically evaluated by stochastic process closure method, 4th cumulant neglect closure method and Runge-Kutta method. But the first and the second moment equations are coupled each other, so this equations are approximately evaluated by a iterative method. Finally the accuracy of the present method is verified by Monte Carlo simulation.

  • The evaluation equation of torsional moment for prestressed concrete members in ACI 318-95 ignores the contribution of concrete, T$_{c}$. Several research indicates that the current ACI code is not successful in predicting the observed torsional moment of the PSC beams with reasonable accuracy. This paper proposes an evaluation equation of torsional moment taking into account the inter-effects between concrete and torsional reinforcement on the torsional resistance of the PSC beams. According to the comparison with the 31 test results, the torsion equation in ACI code underestimated or overestimated the real torsional moment of prestressed concrete beams. On the other hand, the proposed torsional equation is shown to be in a good agreement with experimental results.s.

  • The evaluation equation of torsional moment for reinforced concrete members in ACI 318-99 ignores the contribution of concrete, T$_{c}$. Several research indicates that the torsional moment of concrete is in effect, specially for the members in which the longitudinal and transverse reinforcement content is small. This paper proposes an evaluation equation of torsional moment taking into account the contribution of concrete. According to the comparison with the 66 test results, the torsion equation in ACI code underestimated or overestimated the real torsional moment of reinforced concrete beams. On the other hand, the proposed torsional equation is shown to be in a good agreement with experimental results.s.

  • The dynamic characteristics of a system can be critically influenced by system uncertainty, so the dynamic system must be analyzed stochastically in consideration of system uncertainty. This study presents a generalized stochastic model of dynamic system subjected to bot external and parametric nonstationary stochastic input. And this stochastic system is analyzed by a new stochastic process closure method and moment equation method. The first moment equation is numerically evaluated by Runge-Kutta method. But the second moment equation is founded to constitute an infinite coupled set of differential equations, so this equations are numerically evaluated by cumulant neglect closure method and Runge-Kutta method. Finally the accuracy of the present method is verified by Monte Carlo simulation.

  • The analysis of statically indeterminate bearing-shaft system was investigated. The moment loads and misalignment angles which were induced in the ball bearings were determined, and the influence of span length of this system on the moment loads and fatigue lives was identified. The sliding and spinning speeds between balls and raceways which affected the performance of ball bearing evaluated. The equation to estimate the cage speed of ball bearing under moment loads was proposed. This equation had been verified by the test results of measuring of cage speed, which was useful to the prediction of ball bearing under moment loads.

  • In the present study, in order to analyze a turbulent flow in a square sectiond 180.deg. bend, Kim's low Reynolds number second moment turbulence closure is adopted. In this model, turbulence model constants in the wall region are modified as functions of turbulent Reynolds number by use of near wall turbulent universal properties based on Laufer's experimental results of Reynolds stress distriburions. Algebraic stress model and Reynolds stress equation model are used to verify the low Reynolds number second moment closure. The application of the present low Reynolds number algebraic stress model to the prediction of a square sectioned 180.deg. bend flow gives improved velocities and Reynolds stresses profiles compared with those obtained by using the van Driest mixing length model and present low Reynolds number Reynolds stress equation model.

  • The Lyapunov exponent and moment Lyapunov exponents of Hill's equation with frequency and damping coefficient fluctuated by correlated wideband random processes are studied in this paper. The method of stochastic averaging, both the first-order and the second-order, is applied. The averaged $It\hat{o}$ differential equation governing the pth norm is established and the pth moment Lyapunov exponents and Lyapunov exponent are then obtained. This method is applied to the study of the almost-sure and the moment stability of the stationary solution of the thin simply supported beam subjected to time-varying axial compressions and damping which are small intensity correlated stochastic excitations. The validity of the approximate results is checked by the numerical Monte Carlo simulation method for this stochastic system.
