Parametric study on eccentrically-loaded partially encased composite columns under major axis bending

  • This paper presents a detailed parametric study, conducted using finite element tools to cover a range of several geometric and material parameters, on the behaviour of thin-walled partially encased composite (PEC) columns. The PEC columns studied herein are composed of thin-walled built-up H-shaped steel sections with concrete infill cast between the flanges. Transverse links are provided between the opposing flanges to improve resistance to local buckling. The parametric study is confined to eccentrically-loaded columns subjected to major axis bending only. The parameters that were varied include the overall column slenderness ratio (L/d), load eccentricity ratio (e/d), link spacing-to-depth ratio (s/d), flange plate slenderness ratio (b/t) and concrete compressive strength ($f_{cu}$). The overall column slenderness ratio was chosen to be the primary variable with values of 5, 10 and 15. Other parameters were varied within each case of L/d ratio. The effects of the selected parameters on the behaviour of PEC columns were studied with respect to the failure mode, peak axial load, axial load versus average axial strain response, axial load versus lateral displacement response, moment versus lateral displacement behaviour and the axial load-moment interaction diagram. The results of the parametric study are presented in the paper and the influences of each of the parameters investigated are discussed.

  • 철근콘크리트 구조물은 타설 후 시간이 경과함에 따라 물리적인 요인과 화학적인 요인으로 인하여 열화가 진행된다. 열화된 구조물의 효율적인 구조해석을 수행하기 위하여 구조물의 거동과 밀접한 관련이 있는 중요열화변수를 정의하는 것은 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 경년열화된 철근콘크리트 전단벽의 중요변수를 분석하기 위하여 일계이차모멘트법을 이용하여 민감도해석을 수행하였다. 콘크리트의 경화현상을 고려하지 않을 경우 구조물의 열화성능이 과소평가될 수 있으므로 콘크리트의 경화에 따른 해석변수들의 민감도를 분석하였다. 열화된 전단벽에서 변수의 중요도는 토네이도 다이어그램으로 나타내었다.

Burr XII 분포형을 이용한 강우자료 지역빈도해석 (Regional Frequency Analysis for Rainfall Data using the Burr XII Distribution)

  • 최근 우리나라는 전 지구적인 기후변화로 인하여 집중호우 및 돌발 홍수와 같은 극치 사상들이 증가하고 있는 추세이며, 이에 대한 분석을 위해 극치 분포를 이용한 수문통계적 특성에 대한 접근이 주로 이루어지고 있다. 이를 위해서는 충분한 수의 자료가 필요하나 우리나라 강우자료는 지점별로 자료 보유 년 수가 비교적 많지 않기 때문에, 이러한 문제를 극복하기 위하여 하나의 지역, 즉 주어진 지점을 포함하여 수문학적으로 동일한 조건을 만족하는 주변 지점의 자료를 모두 포함하여 빈도해석을 실시하는 지역빈도해석이 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 지역빈도해석과 두 개의 형상매개변수를 포함하여 다양한 극치 수문통계특성을 나타낼 수 있다고 알려진 Burr XII 분포를 이용하여 우리나라 강우자료에 대한 그 적용성을 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 군집분석을 통한 강우지점의 지역화 과정을 거치고 분류된 지역을 L-moment ratio diagram에 도시하여, Burr XII 분포 영역 내 포함여부를 통해 Burr XII 분포의 적합도를 도시적으로 살펴보고, Hosking and Wallis (1997)이 제안한 적합성 척도($^{IST}$)를 통한 적합성 여부를 판별하였다. 또한 우리나라 강우자료에 비교적 적합하다고 알려진 분포인 generalized extreme value, generalized logistic, Gumbel 분포와의 비교를 위해, 전체 지역에 대하여 재현기간에 따른 상대편의 (relative bias)와 상대평균제곱근오차 (relative root mean square error)를 산정하여 Burr XII 분포형의 적용 가능성을 살펴보았다.

폭발하중을 받는 철근콘크리트 부재의 직접전단 파괴 및 휨 파괴 저항성능 평가를 위한 수치해석 모델 개발 (Numerical Model to Evaluate Resistance against Direct Shear Failure and Bending Failure of Reinforced Concrete Members Subjected to Blast Loading)

  • 본 논문에서는 폭발하중을 받는 부재의 저항성능 평가를 위한 모멘트-곡률 관계 기반 수치해석 기법을 소개한다. 직접전단 파괴 모드를 고려하기 위하여 경험적인 직접전단응력-슬립양 관계를 기반으로 하는 무차원 스프링 요소를 도입하였다. 재료에 대해 정의된 동적증가계수 식을 바탕으로 단면의 모멘트-곡률 관계에 직접적으로 적용가능한 단면의 곡률 변화율에 따른 동적증가계수 식을 제작하였다. 또한 부착슬립의 영향을 고려하기 위하여 소성힌지영역 내에 등가 휨강성을 도입하였다. 제안된 수치해석 모델의 타당성 검증을 위하여 실험결과와의 비교연구를 수행하였으며, 단자유도계 모델의 해석결과와의 비교를 통해 본 수치해석 모델의 우수성을 확인하였다. P-I 선도를 제작하여 부재의 휨 파괴 및 직접전단 파괴에 대한 저항성능을 평가하였으며, 매개변수 연구를 수행하여 P-I 선도 및 저항성능의 변화를 확인하였다.

LH-모멘트에 의한 극치홍수량의 빈도분석을 위한 적정분포형 유도 (Derivation of Optimal Distribution for the Frequency Analysis of Extreme Flood using LH-Moments)

  • This study was conducted to estimate the design flood by the determination of best fitting order of LH-moments of the annual maximum series at six and nine watersheds in Korea and Australia, respectively. Adequacy for flood flow data was confirmed by the tests of independence, homogeneity, and outliers. Gumbel (GUM), Generalized Extreme Value (GEV), Generalized Pareto (GPA), and Generalized Logistic (GLO) distributions were applied to get the best fitting frequency distribution for flood flow data. Theoretical bases of L, L1, L2, L3 and L4-moments were derived to estimate the parameters of 4 distributions. L, L1, L2, L3 and L4-moment ratio diagrams (LH-moments ratio diagram) were developed in this study.

  • After a digital modelling method has been introduced into architectural design in 1990s, a radical change was taken place in generating architectural form and space. Many architects have a view that digital modelling method is the most Important invention in the visual presentation since the moment that architect Philippo Brunelleschi experimented initially the linear perspective. Therefore, in this study, comparing between perspectiva artificialis and digital modelling method, we clarify 1) the relationship of architectural design and presentation method, 2) the practical and philosophical background inherent in digital modelling method which played key role in developing non-representational architecture, 3) and the principles of non-representational architecture like diagram, folding, and trace.

Seismic design and assessment of steel-concrete frame structures with welded dissipative fuses

  • This research presents the design and numerical assessment of composite steel-concrete frame structures with welded dissipative fuses. The assessment has been carried out based on linear response spectrum, nonlinear static pushover and time history procedures. The analytical expressions which define the envelope of the nonlinear response of the dissipative fuses are first presented and calibrated against experimental results available in literature. The assessment is then carried out according to a design methodology proposed herein. Outcomes of the numerical assessment indicate that the use of welded dissipative fuses successfully limited damage within the replaceable parts. Furthermore, although structures with dissipative fuses present lower strength and, generally, lower displacement capacity, their displacement ductility and global dissipative performance are generally higher than conventional structures, especially when the structure with dissipative fuses presents a dissipative configuration adjusted to the bending moment distribution diagram calculated for the applied seismic action.

선수선형(船首船型)의 파랑하중(波浪荷重) 특성(特性) (The Effect of Forebody Section Shape on Wave Loads)

  • The effects of the forebody geometry of ships on the response function of wave loads are investigated by numerical calculations based on a strip method. For the vertical wave loads both shearing forces and bending moments, the V-shaped bow gives greater responses than the U-shaped one in regular oblique waves. These results have been clarified by the vector diagram of all static and dynamic components contributing to the resultant wave bending moment. In the present evaluation the phase relation among the components plays an important role. And the effect of the forebody geometry on lateral wave loads seems to be negligible from the result of the present investigation.

GL Guideline에 의거한 소형 풍력발전용 복합재 블레이드의 피로 저항성 평가 (Evaluation for Fatigue Resistance of Small Wind Turbine Composite Blade according to GL Guideline)

  • This study aims to estimate the fatigue resistance of small wind composite blade using the fatigue life estimation formula in the GL guideline. For this, firstly, we estimated a turbine blade's bending moment spectrum by using wind profile wind profile and BEMT. And fatigue tests were performed to obtain the S-N curve of composite materials used in blade. In addition, a finite element analysis was used to identify fatigue critical locations and fatigue stress spectrum. And the fatigue resistance of composite blade were evaluated using the rainflow cycle counting, and Goodman diagram and the fatigue life estimation formula in the GL guideline.

A bivariate extension of the Hosking and Wallis goodness-of-fit measure for regional distributions

  • This study presents a bivariate extension of the goodness-of-fit measure for regional frequency distributions developed by Hosking and Wallis [1993] for use with the method of L-moments. Utilising the approximate joint normal distribution of the regional L-skewness and L-kurtosis, a graphical representation of the confidence region on the L-moment diagram can be constructed as an ellipsoid. Candidate distributions can then be accepted where the corresponding the oretical relationship between the L-skewness and L-kurtosis intersects the confidence region, and the chosen distribution would be the one that minimises the Mahalanobis distance measure. Based on a set of Monte Carlo simulations it is demonstrated that the new bivariate measure generally selects the true population distribution more frequently than the original method. An R-code implementation of the method is available for download free-of-charge from the GitHub code depository and will be demonstrated on a case study of annual maximum series of peak flow data from a homogeneous region in Italy.
