  • In the die casting process, the flow of liquid metal has significant influence on the quality of casting products and die life. For the optimal process design of gear housing of automobile transmission, various analyses were performed in this study by using computer simulation code, MAGMAsoft. The simulation has been focused on the molten metal behaviors during the mold filling and solidification stages for the sound casting products. Also internal defects were predicted by application of air pressure and feeding criteria.

  • A basic objective is the preparation and surface studies of supported molten salt catalysts because molten salts can stay as the liquid phase in the range of the ordinary reaction temperature. Many kinds of metal salt mixtures for the formation of molten salt phase are appliable but CuCl and KCl were selected in this study because Cu is considered catalytically reactive in many reactons. The loading of the molten salt was selected as 25 vol% of the total pore volume of ${\gamma}-alumina$ to provide reasonable exposed surface area. The surface structure of catalysts containing molten salts in the ${\gamma}-alumina$ was studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). CuCl and KCl were added into the ${\gamma}-alumina$ using concentrated hydrochloric acid solution by the impregnation technique. The surfaces of the prepared catalysts before and after heat treatments were compared and they suggested that the heat treatment of catalysts helped the formation of molten-salt although the surface compositions of CuCl and KCl were not uniform.

  • This paper presents a study of the uniform metal droplet generation using laser. The theoretical model, based on the variational principle instead of solving the Wavier-Stokes equation with moving boundaries, is developed. Our model is considered the Young-Laplace equation and force equilibrium conditions. Surface tension coefficient is determined under the statical condition with induced differential equation by using experimental result. In case of dynamic vibration, metal droplet shape and critical detaching volume are predicted by recalculating of proposed model. The simulation result revealed that the developed model could reasonably describe the molten metal droplet behavior on vibration with metal wire.
