  • can be determined from the number and weight average molecular weight. When the value of the exponent, a, appearing in the relation between the intrinsic viscosity and the viscosity average molecular weight, is in the range from 0.6 to 0.8, as is the case for the most polymers, the viscosity average molecular weight is much more close to the weight average molecular weight than to the number average molecular weight.

유변학적 물성을 이용한 폴리프로필렌의 분자량과 분자량 분포를 결정하는 방법 (Determination of Molecular Weight and Molecular Weight Distribution of Polypropylene Using Rheological Properties)

  • 폴리프로필렌의 분자량 및 분자량 분포를 예측하기 위해 레오메터, 고유점도측정기 및 MI(melt index) 기기 등을 이용하여 유변 물성을 측정하였고, 분자구조해석에는 GPC가 사용되었다. 기존에 사용되어온 동적진동측정을 이용한 교차 모듈러스에서 결정된 유변학적 PI(다분산 지표)와 변형된 Carreau 모델을 이용하여 계산된 분포 폭 매개변수(distribution broadness parameter)를 분자량 분포와의 관계를 비교해보았다. 유변학적 PI의 경우 이론적 근거가 부족하고, 압출에 의해 재 생성된 폴리프로필렌 시료에 대해서는 분자량 분포와 잘 일치하지만 반응기에서 중합된 시료 즉, 분자량 분포가 넓거나 다른 경우 잘 일치하지 않는다는 보고가 지배적인데 비해 분포 폭 매개변수는 폴리프로필렌의 전단담화의 정도를 직접적으로 측정하는 것으로 분자량 분포를 잘 예측할 수 있음을 알았다.

On-Line Determination of dn/dc for Size Exclusion Chromatography Coupled with a Light Scattering Detector

  • The internal standard method, which is widely used in chromatographic techniques, is applied to the size exclusion chromatography for the on-line determination of dn/dc value of the sample. This method is found to provide the dn/dc value with suitable accuracy in determining the absolute molecular weight and the molecular weight distribution of the polymers when a light scattering detector is used.

  • Sodium hyaluronate (NaHA), water soluble polymer having ultra-high molecular weight, is characterized by using on-line frit inlet asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation (FI-AFlFFF) and multiangle light scattering (MALS). This study demonstrates the capability of power programming FI-AFlFFF for the separation of NaHA and the applicability of FI-AFlFFF with MALS for the characterization of molecular weight distribution and their structural information. Since sample injection and relaxation in FI-AFlFFF are achieved by using hydrodynamic relaxation, separation of high molecular weight polymers can be achieved smoothly without halting the separation flow. Experiments are carried out with the two different NaHA products (a raw NaHA sample and a thermally degraded NaHA product) and molecular weight distribution and conformations in solution are determined. Influence of sample filtration on the change of molecular weight distribution is also discussed.

Simultaneous determination of low molecular weight amines and quaternary ammonium ions by IC/ESI-MS

  • A new method for the simultaneous determination of low molecular weight amines and quaternary ammonium ions based on the separation by IC with a suppressor and the detection by MS with ESI has been developed. The method has been applied to the analysis of a mixture containing tetramethylammonium ion, tetraethylammonium ion, tetrapropylammonium ion, triethanolamine, trimethylamine and triethylamine. The constituents were separated by isocratic elution using an IonPac CS17 column, a cation-exchange column, and detected by conductivity and mass spectrometry. The newly developed method for the six components demonstrated that the repeatability in terms of relative standard deviation for three measurements was in the range of 0.1-0.5 %. The detection limits were between 0.2 and $0.9{\mu}g/mL$ by the IC/ESI-MS.

Molecular Weight Determination of Polymers by Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization in Mass Spectrometry

  • Matrix assisted laser desorption ionization in mass spectrometry is a fast and accurate method to determine the molecular weight of natural and synthetic polymers. Unknown peptides such as elastase inhibitor and $\small{D}$-hydantoinase were analyzed using sinapinic acid as matrix and their molecular weights were compared with the results from protein sequencer and gel filtration chomatography, respectively. Synthetic polymers such as polyethyleneglycol, polypropyleneglycol, polydimethylsiloxane, and polystyrene were analyzed using matrices such as 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid, 4-hdroxyazobenzenecarboxylic acid, and 2-nitrophenyl octyl ether. Average molecular weights of polystyrene were compared with molecular weights by gel permeation chromatography.

키토산 표면처리가 종이의 항균성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Chitosan Surface Treatment on the Antibacterial Properties of Paper)

  • This study was to investigate the effect of chitosan molecular weight, its charge density, and its surface coating treatment on the antibacterial properties of paper. For this study, E.coil was used for antibacterial experiment. Results obtained were as follows : 1. The antibacterial properties of chitosan was significant on the surface-treated sheet. 2. Antibacterial property surface treatment was appeared to be effective when film was formed on the paper surface. 3. The antibacterial properties of chitosan-treated paper was dependent on the amount and the molecular weight of chitosan used. The lower the molecular weight of the chitosan down to 30,000 the better the antibacterial properties in this experiment. 4. Determination of the degree of chitosan-deacetylation by colloidal titration method was consistent with the more complicated and conventional FT-IR method.

  • 장광품종의 밀 gliadin 단백질을 정제하여 주 gliadin 단백질을 얻은 다음 이의 아미노산조성과 분자량 그리고 N-말단 및 C-말단 아미노산을 조사하여 본 결과 1. 주 gliadin 단백질의 아미노산 조성은 glutamic acid의 함량이 가장 많았다. 2. 주 gliadin 단백질의 분자량은 60,200 ${\pm}$200이었다. 3. 주 gliadin 단백질의 N-말단 아미노산은 phenylalanine이었고, C-말단 아미노산은 methionine이었다.

Characterization of a Low Molecular Weight Heat-Shock Protein cDNA Clone from Nicotiana tabacum

  • We characterized a cDNA clone for a low molecular weight heat-shock protein (LMW HSP) from tobacco named TLHS-l. Nucleotide sequence determination of TLHS-1 identified an open reading frame for 159 amino acids. To the upstream of the open reading frame, a sequence of 124 nucleotides was determined. To the 3' downstream of the open reading frame, 212 nucleotides were identified which carried poly(A)-tail. Comparison of the open reading frame and hydropathy plot of TLHS-1 with the previously reported class I LMW HSPs showed high identity which classified TLHS-1 as a class I LMW HSP cDNA clone. We proposed that there are six consensus regions in class I LMW HSPs. RNA blot hybridization for TLHS-1 showed a typical expression pattern of heat-shock-inducible gene from three common tobacco cultivars. The open reading frame of TLHS-1 was overexpressed in Escherichia coli. TLHS-1 protein confers thermal protection of other proteins in vitro and in vivo. Thermal induced aggregation of citrate synthase was reduced by purified TLHS-1 protein, and thermal death rate at $50^{\circ}C$ was reduced in E. coli expressing TLHS-l. From these data, we can expect that TLHS-1 acts as a molecular chaperone.perone.
