  • The vacuum molding process is one of the clean-foundry molding-processes that can recycle molding sands repeatedly, because molding can be accomplished by introducing vacuum only among dry molding sands in flask. The effects of molding conditions such as sand grain fineness, vacuum pressure and coating thickness on the fluidity of A356 Al alloy were studied and the results was obtained that the fluidity length was decreased as the sand grain fineness number and coating thikness were decreased and the vacuum pressure was increased. A large amount of heat removal from the molten metal resulting from the vacuum suction during the vacuum molding process was the principal cause of this decrease in fluidity.

  • In injection molding, short shot is one of the frequent and fatal defects. Experts of injection molding usually adjust process conditions such as injection time, mold temperature, and melt temperature because it is the most economic way in time and cost. However it is a difficult task to find appropriate process conditions for troubleshooting of short shot as injection molding process is a highly nonlinear system and process conditions are coupled. In this paper, a fuzzy neural network(FNN) has been applied to injection molding process to shorten troubleshooting time of short shot. Based on melt temperature and fill time, a reasonable initial mold temperature is recommended by the FNN, and then the mold temperature is inputted to injection molding process. Depending on injection molding result, specifically the insufficient quantity of an injection molded part, an appropriate mold temperature is recommend repeatedly through the FNN.

  • This paper describes the optimization of injection molding conditions to minimize sink marks. Sink marks, which refer to a small depression on the surface opposite a thick wall thickness, are often encounted in injection molded plastic parts. Part geometry, material properties and processing conditions during injection molding can affect the sink mark depth. We designed the runner system which is possible balanced filling to cavities using CAE program and then obtained optimal processing conditions by Taguchi's Robust Design technique. By actual injection molding using optimized mold and molding conditions, it confirmed that sink mark depth decreased zero compared to 1mm level in the conventional mold and process.

  • In this study, real-time collection of mold vibration signals during injection molding processes was achieved through IoT devices installed on the mold surface. To analyze changes in the collected vibration signals, injection molding was performed under six different process conditions. Analysis of the mold vibration signals according to process conditions revealed distinct trends and patterns. Based on this result, cosine similarity was applied to compare pattern changes in the mold vibration signals. The similarity in time and acceleration vector space between the collected data was analyzed. The results showed that under identical conditions for all six process settings, the cosine similarity remained around 0.92±0.07. However, when different process conditions were applied, the cosine similarity decreased to the range of 0.47±0.07. Based on these results, a cosine similarity threshold of 0.60~0.70 was established. When applied to the analysis of mold vibration signals, it was possible to determine whether the molding process was stable or whether variations had occurred due to changes in process conditions. This establishes the potential use of cosine similarity based on mold vibration signals in future applications for real-time monitoring of molding process changes and anomaly detection.

  • This paper describes the forming conditions of smart-phone curved glass using the glass molding system with force applying system. The force applying system is composed of a body, a motor and gear, a rectilinear movement structure, a force sensor, a LVDT sensor (Linear Variable Differential Transformer), a up and down moving block, and so on. The glass molding system for characteristic test to find the forming conditions consists of the force applying system and a chamber, a metallic mold, a upper heater, a lower heater and so on. The characteristic test for forming conditions of smart-phone curved glass was carried out at forming temperature $620^{\circ}C$ and $650^{\circ}C$ using the glass molding system. As a result of the characteristic test, the forming conditions of curved glass could be found, and it is thought that the conditions can be used to apply to the system for producing in large quantities.

  • Series of experimental work was performed to mold tensile specimens by using the injection molding machine Mold temperature, melt temperature and packing time were chosen as processing parameters for studying the effects of those conditions on the linear shrinkage of final product. Here, each processing variable was decided from the numerical simulation and resin manufacturer's suggested value. The effects of molding conditions on the linear shrinkage in flow direction of the resin were analyzed by measuring the parts 2, 10, 30 and 60 days after molding. As a result, the linear shrinkage increased with the higher mold and melt temperature, and the change of mold temperature has shown more influence. The linear shrinkage of polypropylene has been found to progress up to 30 day with the lapse of the time, and the amount of the linear shrinkage has shown to be between 2.14% and 2.75%. In addition, the effects of packing pressure on the weight has shown to be extremely significant up to freezing time, and proper packing time of the tensile specimen has been found to be 2.0 seconds.

  • Pressure distribution in the cavity during injection molding affects part quality. In this study pressure distributions in the runner, near gate in the cavity, and end of ail in the cavity have been measured using direct pressure sensors for various molding conditions. Molding conditions were injection speed, injection pressure, packing time from filing stage, and packing pressure. Through experiments it was realized that the packing time from filling stage and packing pressure are the dominant factors on the part quality such as part shrinkage. Experimental results have been compared with computer simulations.

  • From the past, most of the studies about thermoplastic elastomers(TPEs) have been conducted for theirs compounded materials and morphology. However these studies do not directly affect on injection molding processing. Therefor this study is focus on the variation of mechanical properties on TPEs moldings by increasing injection molding conditions which included injection molding conditions include injection pressure, holding pressure, melt temperature, mold temperature. The used experimental TPEs is a group of styrene(TPS). Injection pressure slightly affected on tensile strength, shrinkage and hardness. Holding pressure only affected on hardness. The melt temperature was the most affective condition on tensile strength.

  • Deformation frequently occurring in injection molded products is a phenomenon displayed due to uneven shrinkage distribution and orientation of the whole molded product. Shrinkage deformation is a very serious problem because it causes deformation of the molded article and shortens the performance of the product. In this paper, we are focusing on the warpage of keypad in mobile phone. In other words, we focused on minimizing keypad deformation. In the study, the Taguchi method was applied to find the injection molding conditions that minimize the deformation of the keypad. In the case of this keypad, the main factors influencing the shrinkage deformation were predicted as the melting temperature, coolant temperature and cooling time. In addition, the optimum molding conditions were obtained and the shrinkage strain was minimized. Experiments for the Taguchi method and verification of optimal molding conditions were performed using an injection molding analysis program.
