  • The injection molding process is widely used in the production of most plastic products. In order to make metal-colored plastic products like those found in modern luxury home alliances, metallic pigments are mixed with a basic resin material for injection molding. However, process control for metal-colored plastic products is extremely difficult due to the non-uniform melt flow of the metallic resin pigments. In this study, the effect of process parameters on the quality of a metal-colored plastic product is evaluated. A rapid mold cooling method using a compressed cryogenic fluid is also proposed to decrease the content of undesired compounds within the plastic product.

  • An axial F.R.P. fan model for cooling tower is developed. The fan is designed using the equations for one dimensional inviscid flow through the fan blade. Fan shape is swept forward with a parabolic function. Calculations of the three dimensional turbulent flow around the fan are carried out to investigate performance of the fan. Data of the total pressure rise and hydraulic efficiency can be obtained for the various setting angles. Calculated values of the total pressure rise and hydraulic efficiency at the design point are less than those of the design specification. The prototype of the F.R.P. fan is made by laminating of the fiberglass and epoxy resins on the mold of fan shape.

  • Injection molding process was taken to manufacture DC motor case that surrounds DC motor used as automobile parts. Up to now, DC motor case has been made by the deep drawing process or bending process of metal materials. Simulations of filling, packing and cooling processes were done by CAE tool like Moldflow software. Optimal delivery system was decided from the analysis of flow balance, and packing and cooling analyses were performed by using the design of experiment to minimize the volumetric shrinkage of molded part and the temperature difference between mold and part.

  • This study investigated the microstructure properties of A356 and AC8A alloys with a rheocasting mold using an inclined cooling plate. In addition, a formability evaluation was performed according to the solid fraction. Regardless of the position, the overall microstructure was shown to be uniform and a finer crystal structure was obtained as the solid fraction increased. The study confirmed that the molding pattern changed according to the solid fraction and that the spherical α-Al and eutectic α were identified. The results of the formability according to the solid fraction of A356 and AC8A alloys were similar to the simulation results.

  • The present work is an attempt to evaluate the relationship between dendrite arm spacing and average cooling rate in gasatomized $Al_{87.3}misch$ $metal_{8.3}Ni_{4.4}$ powder by means of the following methods. One is calculation of heat transfer coefficient and average cooling rate, which are derived from estimated particle velocity during gas-atomization. The other is measurement of secondary dendrite arm spacing, which are observed on the particle surface. Then, we make experimental equation for this relationship in case of permanent mold casting and compare it with similar equation in case of rapidly solidified powder. Both average cooling rates and solidification rates are considered to represent the variance of dendrite arm spacings in two types soidification route. Even though there is a considerable difference in each average cooling rate, the dendrite arm spacing values are similar in two cases; particle diameter, $100\;{\mu}m$, and casting width, 2.05 mm. It is because that each solidification route has similar solidification rate.

  • A combination of Polycarbonate (PC) material and Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), fabricated using an injection molding machine, has been investigated to determine its advantages, as studied in Ref. 1). This paper aims to investigate the optimization of PMMA/PC blend for both tensile yield strength and impact strength. Furthermore, interaction effects of process conditions on mechanical properties including tensile yield strength and impact strength of PMMA/PC blend by injection molding process are interpreted in this study. Tensile and impact specimens are designed following ASTM, type V, and are fabricated by injection molding process. The processing conditions such as melt temperature, mold temperature, packing pressure, and cooling time are applied; each factor has three levels. As a result, in comparison with optimization of separated responses, mechanical properties of PMMA/PC are found to decrease when optimizing both tensile and impact strengths simultaneously. The melt temperature is found to be the most significant interaction parameter with the mold temperature and packing pressure. In addition, there is more interaction between the mold temperature and cooling time. This investigation provides a useful understanding of the control of injection molding processing of polymer blends in optical application.

  • Subminiature lenses are currently widely used in mobile phone cameras and are usually produced by injection molding. The lens molding process has the unique feature of a runner volume that is much larger than the part volume, and this feature should be considered when determining the mold design and molding conditions. In this study, a shell-type runner was proposed as an alternative to the conventional cylindrical runner used for lens molding. An injection molding simulation was performed by applying the proposed shell runner, and the simulation results were compared with those from the cylindrical runner case. It was found that the shell runner could considerably reduce the runner cooling time with only a slight increase in the injection pressure. The effect of the runner thickness was then investigated numerically in terms of the mold filling and cooling characteristics, from which an optimal runner thickness could be determined.

  • Currently, Korea is an aging society, and it is expected to enter a super-aging society in about 4 years. Accordingly, many X-ray technologies are being developed. In X-rays, 99% of X-rays are converted into heat energy and 1% into light energy (X-rays). 99% of the thermal energy raises the temperature of the anode and its surroundings, and the cooling system is an important factor as overheating can affect the deterioration of X-ray quality and shortened lifespan. There is a method of forced air cooling using natural convection. Therefore, in this study, when X-rays were taken 5 times, Flow analysis was performed on heat removal according to temperature rise and cooling time for the heat generated at the anode of the X-ray tube (input power 60kW, 75kW, 90kW). Based on one-shot, the most rapid temperature rise section increased by more than 57% to 0.03 seconds, A constant temperature rises from 0.03 seconds to 0.1 seconds, It is judged that the temperature rises by about 8.2% or more at one time. After one-shot cooling, the cooling drops sharply from about 60% to 0.03 seconds, It is judged that the temperature has cooled by more than 86% compared to the temperature before shooting. One-shot is cooled by more than 86% with cooling time after 0.1 seconds, As the input power of the anode increases, the cooling temperature gradually increases. Since the tungsten of the anode target inside the X-ray tube may be damaged by thermal shock caused by a rapid temperature rise, an improvement method for removing thermal energy is required when using a high-input power supply.

  • Traditional cell culture(2-dimensional) is the method that provide a nutrient and environment on a flat surface to cultivate cells into a single layer. Since the cell characteristics of 2D culture method is different from the characteristics of the cells cultured in the body, attempts to cultivate the cells in an environment similar to the body environment are actively proceeding in the industry, academy, and research institutes. In this study, we will develop a technology to fabricate micro-structures capable of culturing cells on surfaces with various curvatures, surface shapes, and characteristics. In order to fabricate the hemispheric plastic structure(thickness $50{\mu}m$), plastic preform mold (hereinafter as "preform mold") corresponding to the hemisphere was first prepared by injection molding in order to fabricate a two - layer structure to be combined with a flat plastic film. Then, thermoplastic polymer dissolved in an organic solvent was solidified on a preform mold. As a preliminary study, we proposed injection molding conditions that can minimize X/Y/Z axis deflection value. The effects of the following conditions on the preform mold were analyzed through injection molding CAE, [(1) coolant inlet temperature, (2) injection time, (3) packing pressure, (4) volume-pressure (V/P). As a result, the injection molding process conditions (cooling water inlet temperature, injection time, holding pressure condition (V / P conversion point and holding pressure size)) which can minimize the deformation amount of the preform mold were derived through CAE without applying the experimental design method. Also, the derived injection molding process conditions were applied during actual injection molding and the degree of deformation of the formed preform mold was compared with the analysis results. It is expected that plastic film having various shapes in addition to hemispherical shape using the preform mold produced through this study will be useful for the molding preform molding technology and cast molding technology.
