  • Theoretical and experimental investigations of moires in 3D displays were performed. To describe and minimize moires, we propose the polar representation form of moire waves. The experimental and theoretical data are in good agreement except in the neighborhood of the minimization angle. The implicit formulas are found for visible moires of line gratings at finite distances. The computer simulation and the physical experiments confirm the moire appearance for this case.

  • In this study, we describe the development of viscous inspection equipment for flatron panel glass by Moire phenomenon and propose a new idea to develop an automatic inspection system for viscous or cord defects. It is possible to detect string viscous more easily and the equipment is practically being applied in production line. After using this equipment, the ratio of defective from customer is dropped significantly.

  • In modern times, many IoT products are being used as all things and devices are connected to the Internet and IoT products become easily accessible through the network. For the convenience of users, IoT products can be remotely operated automatically without manual operation. Various research and development are underway to improve the convenience of users by using IoT products. However, since only the convenience of the users is pursued, in terms of security, there is a serious problem that exposes the user's personal information. This paper has proposed a method to apply $moir{\acute{e}}$ technology to IoT products in order to improve the performance of security, and a method to increase the safety of IoT products using user face authentication based on shadow $moir{\acute{e}}$ as a $moir{\acute{e}}$ phenomenon method, and the projection $moir{\acute{e}}$. When comparing the existing IoT products and IoT products applied with $moir{\acute{e}}$ technology, IoT products applied with $moir{\acute{e}}$ technology are safer in terms of security.

  • This paper presents a novel fiber optic accelerometer system for monitoring vibration of large-size structures. The system is composed of one (or multiple) sensor head, a light control unit and a signal processing unit. The sensing mechanism of the sensor head is based on a novel integration of the moire fringe phenomenon with fiber optics to achieve a robust performance in addition to its immunity to EM interference, easy cabling, and low cost. In this paper, a prototype of the fiber optic accelerometer system has been developed successfully. A low-cost light control unit has been developed to drive the system's optic and electronic components. A unique algorithm has also been developed to derive the sensor's acceleration from the raw signals of the light control unit; it is implemented via a separate signal processing unit. Finally, the shaking table tests successfully demonstrate the performance and the potential of the moire fringe fiber optic sensor system to monitor the health of civil infrastructures.

  • With an attempt to suppress the moiré phenomenon caused by the interference between the black matrix of a display panel and the metal grid of a camera, we have fabricated an anti-moiré filter using light diffusing particles (LDPs) with the average diameter of 20 ㎛. It is demonstrated that the anti-moiré filter coated on a glass substrate (370 mm × 470 mm) using a table slot-die coater reduces the moiré intensity to a great extent when the area covered by LDPs is 50%. To quantify the intensity of moiré phenomenon, we have measured the lightness ratio and found that it is reduced from 132.12 down to 105.71 by the filter. To find the optimum area covered by LDPs, we have performed ray tracing simulations using Mie scatters as a substitute for LDPs. From the simulated irradiation distribution, we have calculated the standard deviation (SD) and contrast ratio (CR) to evaluate the moiré strength. As expected, the SD and CR values decrease with increasing covered area by LDPs. However, there exists a trade-off between the transmittance of the filter and its capability of reducing the moiré intensity in determining the area covered by LDPs.

  • In order to use the LED video wall in the broadcasting studio, there are a few things to be aware of. First, since the pixels are closely arranged, a moire phenomenon may occur due to a short arrangement period, and second, the distance between pixels (pixel pitch) may be recorded on the image sensor of the broadcasting camera. When moire occurs or pixel pitch is observed, viewers feel uncomfortable. Moire effect can be reduced by adjusting the shooting distance or angle of the camera, but in order to prevent the pixel pitch from being recorded on the image sensor, secure a sufficient distance between the LED video wall and camera. even when the distance secured, the zoom lens used in the broadcasting studio must be operated by appropriately changing the magnification. If the focal length is changed by changing the magnification to obtain a desired angle of view, the pixel pitch may be unintentionally recorded. In this study we propose the range that the pixel pitch is not observed while changing the magnification ratio of the zoom lens when the distance from the video wall is sufficiently secured. The content was played back on the LED video wall and the LED video wall was recorded on the server using an HD camera equipped with a B4 mount zoom lens

  • Vibration-based structural health monitoring is one of non-destructive evaluation (NDE) techniques for civil infrastructures. This paper presents a novel fiber optic accelerometer system to monitor civil engineering structures and a successful application of the novel sensor system for measuring ambient vibration of a real building structure. This sensor system integrates the Moire fringe phenomenon with fiber optics to achieve accurate and reliable measurements. The sensor system is immune to electromagnetic (EM) interference making it suitable for difficult applications in such environments involving strong EM fields, electrical spark-induced explosion risks, and cabling problems, prohibiting the use of conventional electromagnetic accelerometers. A prototype sensor system has been developed, together with a signal processing software. The experimental studies demonstrated the high-performance of the fiber optic sensor system. Especially, the sensor was successfully used for monitoring a real building on UCI (University of California Irvine, USA).
