  • $ZrO_2$was modified by treating with $H_2SO_4$ and by treating witb $SO_2,\;H_2S,\;and\;CS_2$ followed by oxidation. The oxidized species and oxidation state of sulfur compounds were investigated by infrared and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies. The generation of strong acidity of modified $ZrO_2$ was independent of the sulfur source after oxidation. The sulfur ($SO_4{^{2-}}$) in the highest oxidation state was responsible for the superacidic property of the modified $ZrO_2$.

  • This study evaluated the laboratory properties of asphalt binder and mixture modified with SPC(Sulfur Polymer Cement), which consists of sulfur as a main ingredient that is an industrial by-product made from refining process of crude oil and carbon-black as an additive. Four levels of SPC modifier ratios(0, 10, 30, 50%) were evaluated in the laboratory. Superpave(Superior Performing Asphalt Pavements) system was used to determine the PG(Performance Grade) and evaluate the property of SPC modified binder at the different temperatures. IDT(Indirect Tensile Test) was performed to evaluate the resistance of fatigue and low-temperature cracking at $10^{\circ}C\;and\;-10^{\circ}C$. Wheel-tracking test was also performed to evaluate the rutting-resistance of SPC modified asphalt mixtures. Test results showed that the more SPC modifier ratios, the better rutting-resistance and the more potential of low-temperature cracking resistance. However, SPC modifier did not show the effect on the fatigue cracking resistance.

  • This research examined the fundamental property of the MgO as the fundamental study that substituted the MgO in the low melting point modified sulfur mortar to examine the physical properties. In this research, the table floor, flexural strength test, and compressive strength test were performed. And as the replacement ratio increased, the floor showed the tendency to increase. And when being the replacement ratio 3%, the flexural strength and compressive strength made the high strength. In case of being substituted for over 5% they displayed the tendency that the intensity is degraded.

  • Recently, the construction structure repeats the brilliant development including the shper high rising, high functionalization, environmental friendliness, conversion to ubiquitous, and etc. upon with the construction industry development and it is continually soothed. Meanwhile, as to the construction structure of the modern society, the research for corresponding to the box-frame construction way where the response to the diversity of the life of the occupant is difficult is needed. Thus, the lightweight of the structure is the important factor in order to secure the functionality. Therefore, this research tries to study the water absorption ratio and flexural strenght of the magnesium oxide light weight matrix according to the powdery modified sulfur addition ratio.

  • Due to the increased construction of offshore concrete structures and the use of de-icing salts for the purpose of snow removal, the needs for the development of anti-corrosive concrete are increasing. To solve these problems, an evaluation of the mechanical and durability properties for concrete were conducted by mixing modified-sulfur as 0 %, 5 %, 10 %, 15 % cement weight ratio. Both strengths and the properties affecting durability such as water absorption coefficient, chloride ion permeability, accelerated carbonation resistance, rapid freezing and thawing, and chemical resistance were evaluated. All evaluations performed were according to the test specifications associated KS. The results indicate that mixing of modified-sulfur lowed chloride ion permeability and improved chemical resistance.

  • Recently, the trend for structure is being changed from wall construction to rhamen construction. rhgamen construction reduces floor noise and selfweight in structures. The amount of lightweight panels used in rhamen construction is also increasing. Also, Worldwide refinery industry is a large amount of sulfur is produced by develrop ment. Sulfur is resistant to freezing and thawing. Terefore, this study focuses on the density and absorption of magnesium oxide matrix that contains wood powder and pearlite to replace lightweight panel for rhamen construction. Adding pearlite 15% has the lowest density but, it has the highest absorption.

  • In this study, the Warm-Mix Asphalt was prepared using a modified Sulfur Binder mixed with an additive of a polymer component in sulfur, which is an industrial by-product generated in the crude oil refining process. The dynamic stability and durability characteristics of the prepared Warm-Mix Asphalt was evaluated by the indirect tensile strength, the tensile strength ratio before and after water immersion and freezing-thawing, and the dynamic stability by wheel tracking test. The Warm-Mix Asphalt Mixtures using Modified Sulfur Binder has a tensile strength ratio before and after water immersion of 0.88, which is about 1.13 times that of the Warm-Mix formed modified Asphalt, and the tensile strength ration before and after freezing-thawing is also 0.82, thus, all tensile strength ratios satisfied the KS quality standard value of 0.75 or more. The indirect tensile strength was 1.6MPa which was twice the KS quality standard value of 0.8MPa, and about 1.24 times higher than that of normal heated asphalt 1.29MPa. In addition, the dynamic stability by the wheel tracking test was 14,075 times/mm, which was about 15 times higher than that of normal heated asphalt and about 3 times higher than that of the Warm-Mix formed modified Asphalt, showing excellent resistance to plastic deformation such as fatigue cracks.

  • In this study, we manufactured melting temperature controllable modified surfur (MS) and studied the properties of sulfur modified cement concrete (SMC). We investigated the effects of sulfur and pyridine content on melting temperature of MS. The reaction is confirmed by measuring Raman spectrophotoscopy. The SMC was produced at Water (W)/Cement (C) = 45 wt%, Sand (S)/Aggregate (A) = 45 wt% and 5, 10, 15 and 20 % of MS on the basis of conventional portland cement, respectively. And then physical properties such as compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and permeability of SMC were measured. As MS added, permeability was decreased, while strength and spalling properties were improved. To confirm the safety of MS and SMC, pyrolyzed gas chromatography (P-GC) and gas hazard test were conducted. The results showed that MS and SMC were relatively safe at an elevated temperature.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the content of sulfur dioxide residues in the medicine prepared from crue drugs. Total 29 pills that contains salvia miltiorrhiza root, anemarrhena rhizome, fritillaria bulb, glehnia root, asparagus tuber, lycium fruit, moutan root bark, cimicifuga rhizome, pinellia tuber, dipsaci radix, codonopsis pilosula root, liriope tuber, achyranthes root, prepared aconite, aurantii fructus immaturus, corydalis tuber, dioscorea rhizome were examined by the modified Monier_Willams method. Sulfur dioxide were detectd in all the tested samples, and were found over MRLs (30 mg/ kg to medicinal herbs) in 8 samples (27.6%). Especilly, "i2" pills contains 132.46 mg/kg sulfur dioxide that is 4 times over than MRLs.
