  • Chinese Postman Problem (CPP) is a problem that finds a shortest tour traversing all edges or arcs at least once in a given network. The Chinese Postman Problem on Mixed networks (MCPP) is a Practical generalization of the classical CPP and it has many real-world applications. The MCPP has been shown to be NP-complete. In this paper, we transform a mixed network into a symmetric network using virtual arcs that are shortest paths by Floyd's algorithm. With the transformed network, we propose a Genetic Algorithm (GA) that converges to a near optimal solution quickly by a multi-directional search technique. We study the chromosome structure used in the GA and it consists of a path string and an encoding string. An encoding method, a decoding method, and some genetic operators that are needed when the MCPP is solved using the Proposed GA are studied. . In addition, two scaling methods are used in proposed GA. We compare the performance of the GA with an existing Modified MDXED2 algorithm (Pearn et al. , 1995) In the simulation results, the proposed method is better than the existing methods in case the network has many edges, the Power Law scaling method is better than the Logarithmic scaling method.

  • It is desirable to have an accurate expression on the temperature dependence of surface(or interfacial) tension ${\sigma}$, because most of the interfacial thermodynamic functions can be derived from it. There have been proposed several equations on the temperature dependence of the surface tension, ${\sigma}(T)$. Among them $E{\ddot{o}}tv{\ddot{o}}s$ equation and the one modified by Katayama, which is called Katayama equation, for improving accuracies of $E{\ddot{o}}tv{\ddot{o}}s$ equation close to critical points, have been most well-known. In this article Katayama equation is interpreted on the basis of the cell model to understand the nature of the equation. The cell model results in an expression very similar to Katayama equation. This implies that, although $E{\ddot{o}}tv{\ddot{o}}s$ and Katayama equations were obtained on the basis of experimental results, they have a sound theoretical background. The Katayama equation is also modified with the phase volume replaced with a critical scaling expression. The modified Katayama equation becomes a power-law equation with the exponent slightly different from the value obtained by critical-scaling theory. This implies that Katayama equation can be replaced by a critical-scaling equation which is proven to be accurate.

  • The modified couple stress-based third-order shear deformation theory is presented for sigmoid functionally graded materials (S-FGM) plates. The advantage of the modified couple stress theory is the involvement of only one material length scale parameter which causes to create symmetric couple stress tensor and to use it more easily. Analytical solution for dynamic instability analysis of S-FGM plates on elastic medium is investigated. The present models contain two-constituent material variation through the plate thickness. The equations of motion are derived from Hamilton's energy principle. The governing equations are then written in the form of Mathieu-Hill equations and then Bolotin's method is employed to determine the instability regions. The boundaries of the instability regions are represented in the dynamic load and excitation frequency plane. It is assumed that the elastic medium is modeled as Pasternak elastic medium. The effects of static and dynamic load, power law index, material length scale parameter, side-to-thickness ratio, and elastic medium parameter have been discussed. The width of the instability region for an S-FGM plate decreases with the decrease of material length scale parameter. The study is relevant to the dynamic simulation of micro structures embedded in elastic medium subjected to intense compression and tension.

  • A new algorithm for self-tuning digital controller is proposed. The system to be controlled is identified on line in auto-regressive-moving-average(ARMA) form via recursive least mean square method. The control law is obtained from the minimization of an objective function. The proposed objective function is similar to that of Generalized Minimum Variance(GMV) method but modified to lessen the overshoot and to avoid numerical divergence problem. This algorithm is applied to the power system stabilization and the comparison of the proposed method with a conventional power system stabilizer(PSS) is presented.

  • In this paper, an adaptive control scheme is applied to the speed control system of a synchronous AC servo motor. The adaptive control system using Ioannou's modified adaptation law is shown to be robustly stable in the presence of current control error and load torque disturbance. The computer simulation demonstrates the rapid compensation of rotor speed deviation due to load torque disturbance.

  • Railway vehicle equipment goes back again to the state just before when failure by the repair. In repairable system, we are interested in the failure interval. As such, a statistical model of the point process, NHPP power law is often used for the reliability analysis of a repairable system. In order to derive a quantitative reliability value of repairable system, we analyze the failure data of the air brake system of the train line 7. The quantitative value is the failure intensity function that was modified, converted into a cost-rate function. Finally we studied the optimal number and optimal interval in which the costs to a minimum consumption point as cost-rate function. The minimum cost point was 194,613 (won/day) during the total life cycle of the braking system, then the optimal interval were 2,251days and the number of optimal preventive maintenance were 7 times. Additionally, we were compared to the cost of a currently fixed interval(4Y) and the optimum interval then the optimal interval is 3,853(won/day) consuming smaller. In addition, judging from the total life, "fixed interval" is smaller than 1,157 days as "optimal interval".

  • High-temperature mechanical behaviors of Type 316L stainless steel (SS), which is considered as one of the major structural materials of Generation-IV nuclear reactors, were investigated through the tension and creep tests at elevated temperatures. The tension tests were performed under the strain rate of 6.67×10-4 (1/s) from room temperature to 650℃, and the creep tests were conducted under different applied stresses at 550℃, 600℃, 650℃, and 700℃. The tensile behavior was investigated, and the modeling equations for tensile strengths and elongation were proposed as a function of temperature. The creep behavior was analyzed in terms of various creep equations: Norton's power law, modified Monkman-Grant relation, damage tolerance factor(λ), and Z-parameter, and the creep constants were proposed. In addition, the tested tensile and creep strengths were compared with those of RCC-MRx. Results showed that creep exponent value decreased from n=13.55 to n=7.58 with increasing temperature, λ = 6.3, and Z-parameter obeyed well a power-law form of Z=5.79E52(σ/E)9.12. RCC-MRx showed lower creep strength and marginally different in creep strain rate, compared to the tested results. Same creep deformation was operative for dislocation movement regardless of the temperatures.

  • Due to nonlinear-synthetic uncertainty including the total unknown nonlinear load torque, the total parameter variation and the fixed load torque, a synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) driving a continuously variable transmission (CVT) system causes a lot of nonlinear effects. Linear control methods make it hard to achieve good control performance. To increase the control performance and reduce the influence of nonlinear time-synthetic uncertainty, an admixed recurrent Gegenbauer orthogonal polynomials neural network (ARGOPNN) with a modified particle swarm optimization (MPSO) control system is proposed to achieve better control performance. The ARGOPNN with a MPSO control system is composed of an observer controller, a recurrent Gegenbauer orthogonal polynomial neural network (RGOPNN) controller and a remunerated controller. To insure the stability of the control system, the RGOPNN controller with an adaptive law and the remunerated controller with a reckoned law are derived according to the Lyapunov stability theorem. In addition, the two learning rates of the weights in the RGOPNN are regulating by using the MPSO algorithm to enhance convergence. Finally, three types of experimental results with comparative studies are presented to confirm the usefulness of the proposed ARGOPNN with a MPSO control system.

  • Effect of thickness stretching on mechanical behavior of functionally graded (FG) carbon nanotubes reinforced composite (CNTRC) laminated nanoplates resting on elastic foundation is analyzed in this paper using a novel quasi 3D higher-order shear deformation theory. The key feature of this theoretical formulation is that, in addition to considering the thickness stretching effect, the number of unknowns of the displacement field is reduced to four, and which is more than five in the other models. Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are the reinforced elements and are distributed with four power-law functions which are, uniform distribution, V-distribution, O-distribution and X-distribution. To cover various boundary conditions, an analytical solution is developed based on Galerkin method to solve the governing equilibrium equations by considering the nonlocal strain gradient theory. A modified two-dimensional variable Winkler elastic foundation is proposed in this study for the first time. A parametric study is executed to determine the influence of the reinforcement patterns, power-law index, nonlocal parameter, length scale parameter, thickness and aspect ratios, elastic foundation, thermal environments, and various boundary conditions on stresses, displacements, buckling loads and frequencies of the CNTRC laminated nanoplate.

  • In this study, based on the three-dimensional theory of elasticity, free vibration characteristics of sandwich sectorial plates with multiwalled carbon nanotube-(MWCNT)-reinforced composite core are considered. Modified Halpin-Tsai equation is used to evaluate the Young's modulus of the MWCNT/epoxy composite samples by the incorporation of an orientation as well as an exponential shape factor in the equation. The exponential shape factor modifies the Halpin-Tsai equation from expressing a straight line to a nonlinear one in the MWCNTs wt% range considered. In this paper, free vibration of thick functionally graded sandwich annular sectorial plates with simply supported radial edges and different circular edge conditions including simply supported-clamped, clamped-clamped, and free-clamped is investigated. A semi-analytical approach composed of two-dimensional differential quadrature method and series solution are adopted to solve the equations of motion. The material properties change continuously through the core thickness of the plate, which can vary according to a power-law, exponentially, or any other formulations in this direction. This study serves as a benchmark for assessing the validity of numerical methods or two-dimensional theories used to analysis of laminated sectorial plates.
