  • Recently produced information on post-translational modifications makes it possible to interpret their biological regulation with new insights. Various protein modifications finely tune the cellular functions of each protein. Understanding the relationship between post-translational modifications and functional changes ("post-translatomics") is another enormous project, not unlike the human genome project. Proteomics, combined with separation technology and mass spectrometry, makes it possible to dissect and characterize the individual parts of post-translational modifications and provide a systemic analysis. Systemic analysis of post-translational modifications in various signaling pathways has been applied to illustrate the kinetics of modifications. Availability will advance new technologies that improve sensitivity and peptide coverage. The progress of "post-translatomics", novel analytical technologies that are rapidly emerging, offer a great potential for determining the details of the modification sites.

  • The purposes of this study were 1) to investigate school uniform image preferences and the uniform modifications of male and female high school students, and 2) to find the differences between male and female students in the uniform image preferences and uniform modifications. The subjects used for the study were 195 male and 201 female high school students. The uniform image preferences consisted of three factors: comfortable & simple, unique & individual, and intelligent & classic. The uniform modifications were measured by the modifications in jacket width, sleeve length, shoulder width, slacks(skirt) length, slacks(skirt) width, and slacks(skirt) waist length. The results showed that male and female students were different in regard to uniform image preference; male students preferred unique image than did female students in their school uniforms. In addition, male and female students differed concerning uniform modifications. Generally, female students modified uniforms more than did male students. Finally, the study compared male and female students in regard to the relationships between uniform image preferences and the uniform modifications. For male and female students, the unique image preference was significantly related to the modifications in different parts of uniform.

  • An accurate finite element (FE) model of a structure is essential for predicting reliably its dynamic characteristics. Such a model is used to predict the effects of structural modifications for dynamic design of the structure. These modifications may be imposed by design alterations for operating reasons. Most of the model updating techniques neglect damping and so these updated models can't be used for accurate prediction of vibration amplitudes. This paper deals with the basic formulation of damped finite element model updating method and its use for structural dynamic modifications. In this damped damped finite element model updating method, damping matrices are updated along with mass and stiffness matrices. The damping matrices are updated by updating the damping coefficients. A case involving actual measured data for the case of F-shaped test structure, which resembles the skeleton of a drilling machine is used to evaluate the effectiveness of damped FE model updating method for accurate prediction of the vibration levels and thus its use for structural dynamic modifications. It can be concluded from the study that damped updated FE model updating can be used for structural dynamic modifications with confidence.

  • Interaction of a pathogen with its host plant requires both flexibility and rapid shift in gene expression programs in response to environmental cues associated with host cells. Recently, a growing volume of data on the diversity and ubiquity of internal RNA modifications has led to the realization that such modifications are highly dynamic and yet evolutionarily conserved system. This hints at these RNA modifications being an additional regulatory layer for genetic information, culminating in epitranscriptome concept. In plant pathogenic fungi, however, the presence and the biological roles of RNA modifications are largely unknown. Here we delineate types of RNA modifications, and provide examples demonstrating roles of such modifications in biology of filamentous fungi including fungal pathogens. We also discuss the possibility that RNA modification systems in fungal pathogens could be a prospective target for new agrochemicals.

  • Kori Unit 1 is planning a system decontamination project to reduce radiation exposure of decommissioning workers, prevent the spread of contamination and down-grade the level of classification of radioactive waste. The system decontamination range for Kori Unit 1 will be the entire primary system, including RCS, CVCS and RHRS. Some system design modifications are required for the system decontamination operation. In this paper, major system design modifications were evaluated based on the conditions that system restoration is needed after completion of system decontamination. The major system design modifications are CIDF connection location to system, system decontamination operating pressure control, RCP seal water injection and formation of letdown flow. It was evaluated that there was no negative effect on the system due to the system design modifications. However, as the RCP seal water is injected into the system in the oxidation process, the concentration of the oxidizing agent is diluted. Therefore, the oxidizing agent injection and system decontamination operation procedures should be developed to address the dilution effect of the oxidizing agent. The system design modifications dealt in this paper will be finally confirmed through on-site investigation in the future, and if necessary, the system design modifications will be re-evaluated.

  • Three polymorphic modifications and one amorphous form were prepared by recrystallization under various conditions and characterized by DSC and X-ray crystallography. At $37{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$, the polymorphic modifications showed significant differences in the dissolution rate. The dissolution rate of Mod. 4, amorphous form, was faster than that of other polymorphic modifications. When all modifications were stored at 52% RH, 95% RH, and in silica gel desiccator, amorphous form was transformed at 95% humidity condition.

  • Three polymorphic modifications of CKD-602, water soluble derivative of camptothecin, were obtained by the recrystallization from different organic solvents and characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD). The major endothermic peaks of the DSC curve of Form 1, Form 2 and Form 3 was shown at $268.71^{\circ}C$, $247.83^{\circ}C$, $244.76^{\circ}C$, respectively. Form 2 was elucidated to be an acetic acid solvate and Form 3 was elucidated to be a methanol solvate. The dissolution patterns of these three modifications were also checked in distilled water at $37{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$, for 30 minutes. The polymorphic modifications showed differences in the dissolution rate. The dissolution rate of Form 1 was faster than that of other polymorphic modifications. When stored at different relative humidity over the period of 3 months, all of the polymorphic modifications did not undergo transformation.

  • This study investigates the types of interactional modifications employed by Japanese and Korean university students during text-based chats. In particular, this study focuses on the role of a network-based medium on the use of interactional modifications, which have been claimed to facilitate interlanguage development. The results show that students use a variety of features of interactional modifications. The most used strategies were the use of paralinguistic features, framing, overt indication of understanding/agreement, and clarification checks, which reveals inconsistent results with findings from research on the negotiation of meaning in face-to-face interaction. Results suggest that the computer-mediated communication (CMC) environment requires the above mentioned strategies and students are able to adapt to this new context by employing alternative strategies. The majority of negotiations were generated by content and lexical items either to resolve communication problems or to better manage interactions, and very few negotiations occurred in terms of grammar. The findings suggest that text-based synchronous chats can be an effective tool for promoting interactive competence, but their effectiveness on grammatical development is uncertain.

  • One of the main concerns in biology is extracting sophisticated features from DNA sequence for gene interaction determination, receiving a great deal of researchers' attention. The epigenetic modifications along with their patterns have been intensely recognized as dominant features affecting on gene expression. However, studying sequenced-based features highly correlated to this key element has remained limited. The main objective in this research was to propose a new feature highly correlated to epigenetic modifications capable of classification of genes. In this paper, classification of 34 genes in PPAR signaling pathway associated with muscle fat tissue in human was performed. Using different statistical outlier detection methods, we proposed that 5-mers highly correlated to epigenetic modifications can correctly categorize the genes involved in the same biological pathway or process. Thirty-four genes in PPAR signaling pathway were classified via applying a proposed feature, 5-mers strongly associated to 17 different epigenetic modifications. For this, diverse statistical outlier detection methods were applied to specify the group of thoroughly correlated genes. The results indicated that these 5-mers can appropriately identify correlated genes. In addition, our results corresponded to GeneMania interaction information, leading to support the suggested method. The appealing findings imply that not only epigenetic modifications but also their highly correlated 5-mers can be applied for reconstructing gene regulatory networks as supplementary data as well as other applications like physical interaction, genes prioritization, indicating some sort of data fusion in this analysis.

  • A new normalized MBD algorithm is presented for nonstationary convolutive mixtures and its properties/modifications are discussed in details. The proposed algorithm normalizes the signal spectrum in the frequency domain to provide faster stable convergence and improved separation without whitening effect. Modifications such as nonholonomic constraints and off-diagonal learning to the proposed algorithm are also discussed. Simulation results using a real-world recording confirm superior performanceof the proposed algorithm and its usefulness in real world applications.
