  • From ancient to modern architecture, the light in the architecture spaces as the only changing factor, was the most important theme contributing vitality to the space and judging its character and expression. The efforts, to acquire both natural-physical light and internally experienced spiritual-supernatural light, had been revealed in several ways of the architecture from the ancient architecture. It was the main issues on the christian architecture. In this study, 1 have intended to determine how the light, the most important factor on the christian architecture symbolizing the blessing of God and forming the pious and restrained spaces has been expressed in the church spaces. For this purpose, I have compared and analysised the examples of the using the light, to the arts of the modern maestros of architecture and newly constructed churches in Korea on the way of light input pattern by the shape of windows. The results from the examples show that the most outstanding point of the modern christian architecture compare to the past, is that the natures of the inputted light has many diversities by the architects. And I reached the fact that the constructers by their own will to acquire the intended light, they are chose progressive light expressing methods through the shape of windows.

  • Illumination in church building has played an important role in making workship space more suitable for divine service. As time has changed, however, the worship space of Protestantism is no longer somber and reverent, but changing into practical and multipurpose space with bright and colorful image. This study investigates intensity of illumination of worship space during day and night respectively and figures out the change of psychological change of congregation in accordance with brightness and color temperature in worship space in order to find out preference and look into the usage and change of illumination in recent Protestantism in compliance with the needs of the time and influence. Then, result value is to be compared to Korean Standard intensity of illumination. Also, the correlation between intensity of illumination and color temperature by Kruithof's curve theory is used to identify the comfortableness of the worship space during day and nigh. And it is a common task of space designers and pastors to map out the worship space in terms of illumination suitable for its own purpose with even more modern and Korean sensibility and to create spiritual space for worshippers by collecting opinions from congregation, the main user of the space. With appropriate usage of illumination in Protestantism worship space, the atmosphere and purpose of worship can be enhanced.

  • Presentation is the way of revealing regionality that is hidden into the inner world. The expression of regionality has to be based on the origin and at the same time created newness as always suitable for the present through combination of 'familiarity' and 'unfamiliarity'. Regionality that has been maintained even under the application modern trends, spirits, technologies and materials should be now disclosed. Creating new forms that reflect regionality is possible only when a keen sense(emotion) always focusing on the essence of the earth works together with foresight(imaginative power) clarifying global pattern changes, under high tensions between both of them. Kim Su-Keun succeeded in reinterpreting traditional spaces, but failed in communicating patterns of life, ultimately revealing stiffness with no tension and no creativity. Kim Jung-Up could not draw out a whole meaning of relations among traditional fragments or relations between them and the present. He only borrowed such fragments from the view of formative art. For 'disclosed abstract', 'familiarity' and 'unfamiliarity' are repeated circularly and cope with pattern changes, continuously creating new forms and showing unity as a complete calmness(rest). In "YangDuk Catholic Church" by Kim Su-Keun provides a simultaneous reactivation of various images through continuous cross-weaving rather than being inclined to either the earth or the world. Based on the technique of 'disclosed abstract', "YangDuk Catholic Church" created a new form and space never seen before.

  • In the early 21st century, the global COVID-19 pandemic, which has arisen during the development of the technological science of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, has been a great challenge in all fields including politics, economy, industry, education and religion in Korean society. To prevent the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic, the Korean government announced 'social distancing guidelines,' focused on the 'prohibition of three conditions'(crowd, closeness, airtight) for safety reasons. These quarantine guidelines made it more difficult for Korean churches and Sunday schools to operate. In general, looking at the statistical data of the major denominations of the Korean Church in the second half of the 20th century, shows that the Church has entered a period of stagnant or declining growth. Data also show that the number of students attending Sunday School is decreasing. The researcher identified four causes of the crisis faced by the Korean church and Korean Sunday school entering the 21st century. These trends are influenced by the tendencies of postmodernism, the deconstruction of modern universalism, the certainty and objectivity of knowledge, and the grand narrative and worldview of diffusion. Moreover, it is a phenomenon in which the young population decreases in contrast to the increasing elderly population in the age of population cliff in Korean society. Sunday Schools are also facing a crisis, as the youth population, who will become the future heroes of the Korean church, is declining. Finally, constraints of Church and Sunday school education activities are due to COVID-19 Pandemic. As analysis shows the loss of the Church's educational vision and a decrease in the passion for education. Accordingly, the researcher suggests four new strategies for the next generation of Korean Sunday schools, whose ranges from 200 members or less; this range covers the majority of Sunday School program run by churches in Korea. First, in the age of postmodernism, a time of uncertainty and relativism, Christian Societies requires teachers who are certain of absolute Christian truth and faith. Second, in an era of declining population cliffs for younger generations, a shift to a home-friendly Sunday school paradigm is needed. Third, during the COVID-19 pandemic, educational activities must appropriately utilize face-to-face and non-face-to-face communication. Finally, even in difficult times, Korean Sunday school should nevertheless remember the Lord's great commandment(Matthew 28:18-20) and restore the vision and passion of education to announce and teach the gospel. The researcher hopes that this study will provide small, positive steps in rebuilding Korean Sunday school educational activities for future generations in difficult times.

  • Since Korea disclaimed to open the ports, Korean architecture has met the impetuous transformation. Although there would be various factors of this transformation, the new-coming architecture by missionary seemed to be a significant one, and many researches have been carried out on this theme in diverse viewpoints. However, because these researches have preponderated on the Catholic tradition, it is deficient for clarify the whole history of mission architecture. Therefore, this research has the meaning to enrich the history of Korean modern architecture by making balance. First of all, this paper is focused on the activities of one missionary, Graham Lee. He is a practical missionary at the beginning, his architecture made a critical influence in Korean traditional architecture. Graham Lee was born in Rock Island, Illinois, 1861, and he determined to become a missionary through grown up. He spent his boyhood by working as a plumber for his purpose and studied in a university afterward. Graduating of McComick Theological Seminary, he was nominated as a pioneer of Pyeng Yang Mission Station and set foot in Korea, September of 1892. Since then he started to erect missionary facilities in Pyeng Yang, such as Well House(1898), Pyeng Yang Central Church(1900-1901), Pyeng Yang Academy(1902). These all his works are designed with eclectic style which shows western and Korean traditional style intermingled. This unique characteristic made a profound influence to the Korean mission architecture afterwards. Especially, the L-type plan of Pyeng Yang Central Church, which is first shown by him, is recognized very unique, and this plan type had been spread all over the country. Therefore the L-type plan became the peculiar feature of the early Korean churches. Furthermore, working with Korean carpenters, he taught them new skills of modem buildings. After that, they were expanded out northern part of Korea and took the roles of master builders. According to this expansion, his particular style had got spread and had been settled as a unique eclectic style in Korean modern architecture. In the conclusion, he is evaluated to be a critical pioneer missionary, who left a big influence on the frame work of Korean modern architecture in the transitional times.

  • This study sought to find the characteristics of the Protestant faith that emerged during the early missionary work of Korean Protestants in the Andong region of Gyeongsang Province, where Confucianism was developed. In the early days of Korean Protestantism (1905-1935), it focused on the life and lifestyle of Elder Lee Sang-dong, a nobleman with a background in Toegye Confucianism, who converted from Confucianism. Elder Sang-dong Lee's life and journey of faith can be illuminated and the implications can be connected through the theology of the faith community by Christian education scholar J. h. Westerhoff III. Westerhoff viewed Christian education as forming the values and worldview of individuals in the community while the faith community adapts to society and culture. Westerhoff's view of Christian education is that these values appear as a way of life within social and cultural processes, and this life helps to reveal various aspects of life based on different environments. As Sang-dong Lee began reading the Bible, he came to believe in Jesus and accepted the worldview of the Bible. The values o f the Bible accepted in this way opened up a world view shown by the Christian Bible rather than Confucian Toegye Neo-Confucianism in the encounter between Confucianism in the late Joseon Dynasty and early Protestant church history. Thus, he lived the lifestyle of a believer who put the words of the Bible into practice in the life of a Confucianism nobleman. He founded the Posan-dong Church and started a church with a martyrdom faith community. He was the first in Andong to sing the March 1st Independence Movement on his own, advocated the Korean Independence Movement, liberated slaves and demonstrated the equality movement, and established new education at DeoksinSeosuk. By implementing it, it faithfully fulfilled its role as a teacher of the enlightenment movement and catechesis. In the early days of Korean Protestantism, Lee Sang-dong, a layman who held the office of elder rather than a minister in an institutional church, is a practical example of the values and lifestyle shown through the encounter between Confucianism and Protestantism in the Andong region, the stronghold of Confucianism. It can be seen as providing deep insight in modern church history and from the perspective of Christian education.

  • This paper introduces a study of concrete structures with a broken tire and a flat tire as a complete overhaul. The materials used to make concrete in this study are solid aggregate, cement, sand, flat tire, broken wheel, drinking water, and Ordinary Portland Cement. A total of 6 main compounds were thrown into solid cylinders and replaced by 0% as a controller followed by 5% and 10%. The cylinder pressure test of the concrete is done by applying the same pressure to the cylinders until a failure occurs. The results of the pressure test show that by applying 5% aggregation the pressure decreases. In Crumb wheel joints, the compression force decreases constantly as the percentage change increases. Therefore, the crumb wheel is not recommended for use as a complete replacement due to its compressive church power.

  • Korean churches and theology of today are experiencing a decline in reliability and a lack of communication from the Korean society due to the absence of proper reflection. Moreover, with the COVID-19 Pandemic, the church is led to a situation where the problem of survival has become a concern. In addition, churches and theology failed to restore the public nature of faith from civil society, and how these beliefs could be developed in terms of Christian education has become an important theological task. The restoration of the public nature of the church brings interest in public theology, and if education is an important area of the public forum, we pay attention to educational philosophers who provided the basis for publicness and civil democracy education philosophy in Christian education. Rousseau, as an educationalist who opened the modern philosophy of education is opening up the civil society through discovering the existence of children with the proposition "Return to Nature" in the 18th century. This study aims to use Rousseau's educational philosophy in his books Emil, The Theory of Inequality Origins, and Social Contract Theory as the basis of educational theory that opened the foundation of the public domain and civil society.
