Meta-analysis of the Effect of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Training on Gait Ability in Patients with Storke

  • 본 연구의 고유수용성신경근촉진법이 뇌졸중 환자의 균형에 미치는 효과를 알아보기 위한 메타분석 연구이다. 이 연구는 프리지마 가이드 라인에 의해 시행되었으며, 총 3개의 데이터베이스를 이용하여 2020년 12월까지 발행된 무작위 배정 연구로 한정하여 검색하였다. 데이터베이스에서 검색된 1475개의 연구 중 본 연구 선정기준에 부합된 12편의 연구를 선정하였다. 개별 연구들의 효과크기를 산출하기 위해 R 프로그램을 이용하였다. 고유수용성신경촉진법이 뇌졸중 환자의 보행 능력에 미치는 전체 효과크기는 0.67으로 중간 정도 효과로 나타났다. 보행에 대한 하위변수에 대한 효과크기는 게이트 라이트 0.69, 10 미터 걷기 검사 0.59로 중간 정도의 효과크기로 나타났다. 이처럼 고유수용성신경근촉진법이 뇌졸중 환자의 보행 능력에 긍정적인 영향을 주었다.

고의성 판단에 확증편향이 미치는 영향: 범죄의 전형성 및 심각성의 역할 (The Effect of confirmation bias on Intentionality Judgment: The Role of Crime Typicality and Seriousness)

  • 본 연구는 형사사법판단 분야에서 광범위하게 판단 오류를 발생시키는 확증편향이 고의성 판단에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 확인하기 위해 수행되었다. 이를 위해, 사건 가해자 및 피해자의 도덕적 특성을 다르게 조합한 중상해 사건과 사망 사건에서 확증편향이 고의성 판단에 영향을 미치는 심리적 기제를 확인하였다. 연구 결과, 참가자들은 사건 가해자와 피해자 모두 나쁜 사람들이 연루된 사건을 더 전형적인 범죄사건이라고 지각했고, 이러한 전형적인 범죄사건의 가해자에게 더 높은 고의성을 부여하였다. 특히, 확증편향이 높은 사람들은 더욱 범죄사건에 대한 고정관념과 일관된 방향으로 사건 가해자의 고의성을 높게 판단하는 것으로 나타났다. 그런데, 심각한 범죄사건에서는 이러한 확증편향의 조절효과가 사라지고 범죄의 전형성 효과만 나타나는 경향이 있었다. 마지막으로, 본 연구의 의의와 함께 고의성 판단을 왜곡시키는 편향을 감소시킬 수 있는 방안에 대해 논의하였다.

Effect of the Scapular Retraction Exercise on the Subacromial and Costoclavicular Space According to a Thera-Band Resistance Intensity

  • Purpose: This study investigated effect of the scapular retraction exercise on the subacromial and costoclavicular space using different thera-band intensities. Methods: Thirty-six healthy adults participated in this study, and the subjects were randomly divided into three groups (low, moderate, and high-intensity groups). The exercise was conducted twice a week for three weeks. The subacromial and costoclavicular space were measured before and after the intervention via ultrasonography. Data analysis was performed using the two-way Analysis of Variance with repeated measures and the paired t-test. Results: The effect of the scapular retraction exercise on the subacromial and costoclavicular space using a thera-band after a 60° shoulder abduction has significant difference in all groups (p<0.05). However, there was no significant difference between the groups, and the values in the groups before the exercise did not differ significantly from those after the exercise (p>0.05). Conclusion: Our results indicate that the scapular retraction exercise after a 60° shoulder abduction can be used to widen the subacromial and costoclavicular spaces.

Evaluation of schistosomula lung antigen preparation and soluble egg antigen vaccines on experimental schistosomiasis mansoni

  • Schistosomiasis causes significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. This study aimed to assess the effect of schistosomula lung antigen preparation (SLAP) and soluble egg antigen (SEA) on a murine schistosomiasis mansoni model. Ninety laboratory-bred male Swiss albino mice were divided into 6 groups. Two doses of the vaccine were given at 2-week intervals. All mice were subcutaneously infected with 80±10 Schistosoma mansoni cercariae 2 weeks after the last vaccination dose. They were sacrificed 7 weeks post-infection. Parasitological and histopathological studies were conducted to assess the effect of inoculated antigens (single or combined). The results showed that the combination of SLAP and SEA (combination group) led to a significant reduction in worm burden (65.56%), and liver and intestine egg count (59% and 60.59%, respectively). The oogram pattern revealed a reduction in immature and mature eggs (15±0.4 and 10±0.8, respectively) and an increased number of dead eggs in the combination group (P<0.001). In terms of histopathological changes, the combination group showed notably small compact fibrocellular egg granuloma and moderate fibrosis in the liver. A high percentage of destroyed ova was observed in the intestine of the combination group. This study demonstrates for the first time the prophylactic effect of combined SLAP and SEA vaccine. The vaccine induced a significant reduction in the parasitological and pathological impacts of schistosomiasis mansoni in hepatic and intestinal tissues, making it a promising vaccine candidate for controlling schistosomiasis.

Influence of high fat and different types of carbohydrate diet on energy metabolism in growing mice

  • [Purpose] The purpose of this study was to determine whether different types of carbohydrate diets with or without exercise changes energy metabolism at rest and during exercise. [Methods] To minimize differences in food and energy intake between experimental groups, mice were pairfed. After 1 week of adaptation, 40 male ICR mice (6 weeks old) were randomly divided into four groups: Sta. (high fat + high starch), Scu. (high fat + high sucrose), StaEX. (high fat + high starch + exercise), and SucEX. (high fat + high sucrose + exercise). StaEX. and ScuEX. groups underwent training by running on a treadmill five times a week. After 10 weeks of training, energy metabolism was measured for 24 h and during a 1 h exercise period. [Results] The final body weight showed no significant difference between the groups. However, the weight of abdominal tissues (epididymal, perirenal, and mesenteric adipose tissue) in training groups was markedly decreased following 10 weeks of training. Results of all energy metabolism (24 h at rest and during 1 h of exercise) showed no significant interactions between diet and exercise. A brief summary of the results of the energy metabolism is that the metabolism related indicators over 24 h were more affected by the dietary pattern than the exercise but during the 1 h of exercise, training had more effect on energy metabolism than diet. [Conclusion] Our findings confirm that: (a) the type of carbohydrates included in the diet influence the metabolic responses over 24 h, (b) training had more effect on energy metabolism than diet during 1 h of exercise, (c) both results; abdominal adipose tissue weight and fat oxidation during exercise are suggestive for a beneficial effect of moderate physical activity on weight maintenance.

From Thinking to Action: The Moderating Effect of Perspective Taking on Embodied Cognition

  • Recent developments in embodied cognition suggest that people process environmental information by using their bodily state and mental simulation. The focus of embodiment theory is that cognitive processing is based on the interaction among the body, the mind, and the world. Based on embodied theories of cognition, the authors predict that when the representation of marathon running is activated, bodily feedback such as tiredness and thirst will occur because mental simulation of marathon running contains sensorimotor representation of marathon running. As a result, it is predicted that participants primed with marathon runner will have more desire to have products that enable thirsty-quenching. Specifically, this research proposes that consumers' tendency to adopt the perspective of others influences embodied cognition, since perspective taking leads people to assimilate their own self-judgments and behaviors toward the cognitive representations of others. An experiment reveals that both perceptual and cognitive perspective taking tendencies moderate how participants respond to the contextual cues. The effect of perspective taking is moderated by whether participants are prompted to adopt a first-person view or a third-person view. In detail, among the high perspective takers, those in the marathon-first-person condition drink more the mineral water than those in the marathon-third-person condition, who in turn drink more the mineral water than those in the control condition. Among the low perceptual perspective takers, however, there are no significant differences in the amount of mineral water intake. This research delivers important insights for advertising messages. When being exposed to an advertisement, high perspective taking consumers may be more engaged in the advertised message than low perspective taking consumers, which in turn high (vs. low) perspective taking consumers' tendency to respond behaviorally consistent with the message may be higher. Based on the findings of this research, if the message induces the high perspective taking consumers to have a first- (vs. third-) person view, this effect may be stronger. Moreover, if the advertising message contains behaviors, such as using the target product, inducing consumers to mimic the behaviors seems to bring more behavioral responses which marketers intend.

세대 간 소통과 일의 의미: 지식공유행동의 매개효과와 나이의 조절효과 (Intergenerational contact and work meaning: The mediating effect of knowledge sharing and the moderating effect of age)

  • 본 연구는 세대 간 소통이 지식공유행동을 매개하여 일의 의미에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 살펴보고자 하였다. 또한 사회 정서적 선택이론(socioemotional selectivity theory)을 기반으로, 지식공유행동이 일의 의미로 가는 경로, 세대 간 소통이 지식공유행동을 통해 일의 의미로 가는 매개경로가 나이에 의해 조절되는지 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 국내 정규직 직장인 588명을 대상으로 설문을 실시하고, 잠재 조절 구조방정식(latent moderated structural equation) 방법을 활용하여 조절된 매개모형을 검증하였다. 그 결과, 지식공유행동은 세대 간 소통과 일의 의미 사이의 관계를 완전 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 나이는 지식공유행동을 매개로 한 세대 간 소통과 일의 의미의 관계를 조절하는 것으로 나타났다. 구체적으로, 나이가 높을수록 매개 경로의 정적인 관계는 강화되는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 지식공유행동의 선행, 결과변인과 지식공유행동의 효과가 어떠한 상황에서 달라질 수 있는지 탐색하여 상세한 메커니즘을 밝혔다는 의의를 갖는다. 또한, 본 연구 결과를 활용하면 구성원 개인 특성을 고려한 코칭 프로그램 제공이 가능하기에, 코칭 효과를 극대화할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Effect of onion (Allium cepa L.) peel extract on natural killer cell and cytokines in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Onion, particularly onion peel, is a quercetin-rich food with, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects. However, the effect of onion peel extract (OPE) in humans is unclear. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate whether OPE improves natural killer (NK) cell activity and cytokine concentration in a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Eighty participants aged 19-64 yrs old with a white blood cell count of 4,000-10,000 cells/µL, symptoms of upper respiratory infection at least once within the previous 12 mon, and perceived stress scale (PSS) over 14 were included. Participants were randomly assigned to take either 1,000 mg/day OPE or a placebo for 8 weeks. RESULTS: Compliance were 87.4 ± 8.6% and 86.9 ± 79.0% in OPE and placebo groups. Compared to the placebo, OPE supplementation improved "Hoarseness" (P = 0.038) of the Wisconsin Upper Respiratory Symptom Survey (WURSS)-21 symptom, and stress scores (P = 0.001; 0.021) of PSS. Supplementation of OPE had no significant effect on NK cell activity and concentrations of cytokines such as interleukin (IL)-2, IL-6, IL-12, IL-1β, interferon-γ, and tumor necrosis factor-α. At baseline, the WURSS-21 symptom and PSS score (P = 0.024; 0.026) were higher in the OPE group than the placebo group. Among participants with higher than median WURSS-21 symptom score, OPE supplementation increased NK cell activity (P = 0.038). Supplementation of OPE had no significant effects on safety measurements and adverse events. CONCLUSIONS: The present study suggested that OPE supplementation improves NK cell activity in participants with moderate upper respiratory symptoms without any significant adverse effects.

대학생들의 Ifland 이용 동기가 만족도 및 지속적 사용의도에 미치는 영향: 혁신성의 조절효과를 중심으로 (The effect of college students' motivation to use Ifland on satisfaction and continuous Use Intention: Moderating effect of innovation)

  • 본 연구는 메타버스 가상 커뮤니티 Ifland의 이용 동기가 만족도와 지속 사용의도에 미치는 영향과 혁신성의 조절효과를 실증적으로 검증하였다. 구체적으로 Ifland 이용자들을 대상으로 이용 동기를 확인하고, 만족도 및 지속 사용의도와의 관계를 분석하였다. 이를 위해 Ifland 이용 경험이 있는 362명의 대학생을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, Ifland의 이용 동기는 오락휴식, 정보추구, 사회적 상호작용, 자기표현 동기로 나타났으며, 이들 Ifland 이용 동기가 모두 사용 만족도에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, Ifland에 대한 만족도가 지속 사용의도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 혁신성은 오락휴식 동기와 만족도의 관계에서 조절효과가 있는 것으로 나타났으며 만족도와 지속 사용의도 간에 조절역할을 하는 것으로 밝혀졌다.

국민건강영양조사 자료를 이용한 청년 및 중·장년층 당뇨병 환자의 신체활동량이 혈당조절에 미치는 영향 분석 (Effect of Physical Activity on Blood Sugar Control in Young and Middle-aged Diabetic Patients Using the 8th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey Data)

  • Purpose : The number of young patients with diabetes is on the rise, and they face challenges in managing their blood sugar levels. This study aimed to investigate the effect of physical activity on blood sugar control in young and middle-aged patients with diabetes aged 19-64 years using data from the 8th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2019-2021). Methods : Blood sugar control in patients with diabetes was determined based on FBG 110 mg/㎗, and physical activity was measured using physical activity categories that considered the sum of walking, moderate intensity, and high intensity. Statistical analysis was conducted using SAS 9.4, and the Rao-Scott chi-square test was conducted to determine differences in blood sugar control based on the sociodemographic characteristics and physical activity of patients with diabetes. Complex-sample multiple logistic regression analysis was conducted to assess the effect of physical activity on blood sugar control. Results : There were statistically significant differences in blood sugar control between young and middle-aged patients with diabetes, depending on sex, age, marital status, obesity, and amount of physical activity. As a result of the complex sample simple logistic regression analysis without adjusting for variables, the non-physical activity group was found to have a higher risk of blood sugar dysregulation than the health-promoting physical activity group (OR: 2.80). Complex-sample multiple logistic regression analysis with control variables showed that the non-physical activity group had a higher risk of blood sugar dysregulation than the health-promoting physical activity group (OR: 3.70). Conclusion : Multifaceted efforts are needed to develop health intervention programs that can increase physical activity, diabetes awareness, and treatment rates, including controlling blood sugar levels and preventing complications in young and middle-aged patients with diabetes.
