  • IDEF0 is the IEEE standard for functional enterprise modeling and has been used for business process modeling or process mapping in US and Europe. But it does not reflect the potential benefits of modeling and simulation of the dynamic aspects of an enterprise or a system. On the other hand, simulation tools concentrate mostly on the simulation of material flows and are difficult to include information flows and control flows. Additionally, the simulation models that include elements such as queues, event generators and process nodes is a visual interactive representation for the model builder, but is inconvenient for the domain expert. In an attempt to fill that void, we provide an integration of business process and simulation models in this paper. An enhancement of the IDEF0, called parameterized IDEF0, is proposed and its conversion mechanism to network simulation model is developed. Using this methodology, business process models for alternative systems can be evaluated and compared through simulation on time, cost, and quality metrics. As an application of the proposed methodology, economic evaluation of EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) for time-based BPR (Business Process Redesign) is demonstrated. In addition to BPR, the developed methodology may be further integrated with ABC (Activity Based Costing), TQM (Total Quality Management), and economic evaluation of information systems.

  • Business process modeling is to represent the business activities in a graphical notation that enterprises use to achieve their customer's requirements. Nowadays, lots of requirements are changed quickly and variously. Therefore, business process models should provide the means which can prepare for changes by analyzing (pointing) elements of business process that are likely to alter. In this paper, we propose a business process family model (BPFM) which represents the commonalities and the variabilities of a set of business processes. In addition, we propose the process which develops the tools for BPFM based on Eclipse Plug-In Graphical Modeling Framework (GMF). The variabilities of Business Process are modeled by using expanded model elements of UML2.0 activity diagram.

  • Process modeling and simulation is a powerful methodology to quantitatively predict the change of process variables when operating and design conditions are changed. In this study, considering drawbacks of currently used process simulator for combined cycle plants, we developed process modeling system equipped with an ease of use and flexibility for model development. For this purpose, the analysis of combined cycle processes was carried out and consequently, mathematical models and libraries were developed. Furthermore, in view of the fact that the level of the abstraction of process models depends on the purpose of simulation as well as the available data, simple and rigorous models were also developed for some important units. In use of reference combined plant, we executed process simulation using the developed modeling system and the comparison was made between the results of simulation and the reference data. Less than 1% marginal error was identified and we concluded that the modeling system can be applied for commercial combined cycle processes.

  • A process-centric simulation modeling method has been proposed to define a shipbuilding simulation model. Existing modeling methods have limitations for expressing various production information for a shipyard. The advanced process-centric modeling method proposed in this paper offers an improvement, effectively representing production information and constraints for a shipyard. To achieve this, a method and diagram components to define a process-centric simulation model in detail have been suggested. The modeling method can assign priorities when multiple products and facilities are assigned to the process. And layer concept was applied to express simulation model with hierarchical structure. To verify the effectiveness of the modeling method, comparative analysis has been performed and the actual shipbuilding process has been modeled using the proposed method. When a single facility was used for various purposes, we found that the proposed method was more advantageous than existing methods. As a result, it was possible to express constraints and flows that were difficult to identify with existing process-centric simulation modeling methods, and the methods were improved for use in shipyard production planning verification simulations.

  • To survive in rapidly changing business environment, the enterprise should adapt its business process to the changing environment. The system integration is an important issue to tackle this challenge. It is unavoidable direction that SOA(Service Oriented Architecture) is accepted as an upcoming IT standard to support flexible business processes and integration. In particular, the integration of business processes and interfaces are important. Therefore, intuitive and easy to implement business process modeling is required. In this paper analyzes business process between enterprises, modeling the service-oriented business process with BPEL to realization level. Also, In this paper suggests that UML is used from high-level business problems to the process of low-level problem for Visual and effectively.

  • Use case diagram is used for defining inter-action between users and systems in object-oriented modeling. It is very important to defining users' requirements for efficient software development. In this paper, we propose a object-oriented modeling process using hierarchical use case analysis for designing class model. First, We define many use case diagrams by several hierarchical modeling level. And next, we can also design class model using the use case diagrams. Our proposed modeling process provides interaction between use case model and class model. That can make us to check the modeling process during the software development. Using the proposed object-oriented modeling we can develop software based on users' requirements. It is very useful for class modeling.

  • It has been argued theoretically and empirically that the analysis of business processes requires the decomposition of an integrated system. However, in order to innovate a business process, cognitive integration activities that try to understand the decomposed features of the business process as an integrated system are essential. This research aims at 1) empirically investigating the cognitive process of integrating multiple diagrams while using object-oriented methodologies in process modeling ; 2) identifying a cognitive integration strategy that supports the successful comprehension of business processes with the use of multiple diagrams ; and 3) proposing guidelines for developing supporting tools for effective business process engineering by using object-oriented process modeling.

  • The sheet metal forming process is one of the most important manufacturing processes in the modern industry. From the view point of mechanics involved, it is very difficult to predict whether a newly designed sheet metal part can be formed without defects such as fracture, wrinkling and surface unevenness, etc. In order to reduce the effort taken in the trial-and-error process and to control the process effectively, a systematic method for process modeling is to required. The aim of sheet forming simulation through the process modeling is to reduce the lead time for die disign and manufacture by process modeling is to reduce the lead time for die design and manufacture by means of investigating the deformation mechanics and the mutual interaction between the process parameters. In this paper, the necessity, the present status, and the future technology about CAE of sheet forming simulation have been discussed.

  • Business organizations are asked to create new business models utilizing current technological innovations such as ubiquitous computing technology for developing new domains of business to obtain a competitive advantage and achieve a sustainable development. This study was focused on the processes for developing new and practical business models. The purpose of this study was to propose ubiquitous sport business modeling processes from the modeling framework. In particular, this study focused on developing new, pragmatic, and effective sport business models, and this new type of business is defined as 'u-sport.' For design the business model, extensive literature reviews and case studies were conducted for benchmarking the cases and expert group review was conducted for developing u-sport business model framework. The suggested business modeling processes in this study were consisted of four phases; 1) organization strategy level setting phase, 2) business strategy level setting phase, 3) business structure level setting phase, and 4) service level setting phase. The modeling processes were verified to adapt ubiquitous sport business. This designing and modeling process is expected to play a significant role on enhancing the technology-based business environments as the process mainly focuses on the service and consumer oriented approach rather than technology and suppliers oriented approach. In conclusion, establishing sport business models by adapting the service modeling process will deliver an exponential growth and development of future ubiquitous based industry.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate elementary students' communication in process of applying mathematical modeling. For this study, 22 fifth graders in an elementary school were observed by applying mathematical modeling process (presentation of problem ${\rightarrow}$ model inducement activity ${\rightarrow}$ model exploration activity ${\rightarrow}$ model application activity). And the level of their communication with their activity sheets and outputs, observation records and interviews were also analyzed. Additionally, by analyzing the activity cases of and , this study researched that what is a positive influence on students' communication skills. Whereas showed significant advance in the level of communication, who communicated actively on speaking area but not on every areas showed insensible changes. To improve communication abilities, cognitive tension and debate situation are needed. This means, mathematical education should continuously provide students with mathematical communication learning, and a class which contains mathematical communication experiences (such as mathematical modeling) will be needed.
