Field measurement and numerical simulation of snow deposition on an embankment in snowdrift

  • Snow accumulation on the road frequently induces a big traffic problem in the cold snowy region. Accurate prediction on snow distribution is fundamental for solving drifting snow disasters on roads. The present study adopts the transient method to simulate the wind-induced snow distribution on embankment based on the mixture multiphase model and dynamic mesh technique. The simulation and field measurement are compared to confirm the applicability of the simulation. Furthermore, the process of snow accumulation is revealed. The effects of friction velocity and snow concentration on snow accumulation are analyzed to clarify its mechanism. The results show that the simulation agrees well with the field measurement in trends. Moreover, the snow accumulation on the embankment can be approximately divided into three stages with time, the snow firstly deposited on the windward side, then, accumulation occurs on the leeward side which induced by the wake vortex, finally, the snow distribution reaches an equilibrium state with the slope of approximately 7°. The friction velocity and duration have a significant influence on the snow accumulation, and the vortex scale directly affected the snow deposition range on the embankment leeward side.

성토층에 매설된 사력질층의 침투특성에 대한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Seepage Characteristics of Embedded Gravel and Rock Layer in the Embankment)

  • For the purpose of studying on the seepage characteristics of embedded gravel layer in embankment, laboratory model tests were carried out. The embedded layer under embankment was $19{\sim}26mm$ diameter of gravel and those embankment materials were Saemangum dredged sand, river sand and mixed(1:1) sand with dredged and river one. Those permeability coefficients of three different sands are $5.00{\times}10^{-5}$, $3.00{\times}10^{-4}$, $7.50{\times}10^{-5}m/s$, respectively. Seepage characteristics of these results are as follows; 1) The Reynolds number of water flow through embedded gravel layer in three different permeable soils is less then 10, it is laminar flow. 2) These flow velocities through embedded gravel layer in soils are in proportion to these hydraulic gradients, it is Darcy flow. 3) These Darcian permeability coefficients of water flow through embedded gravel layer in soils show as $2.95{\times}10^{-3}$, $1.38{\times}10^{-2}$, $3.33{\times}10^{-3}$m/s, respectively, by varying permeability of embankment soils and embankment lengths. It is approximately 100 times of those permeability coefficients of embankment materials.

  • 전기비저항 탐사법은 저수지 누수구간 탐지에 매우 효과적이고 실질적인 물리탐사법이다. 일반적으로 저수지 제체의 마루에서 수행되는 전기비저항 탐사는 저수지가 2차원 구조를 갖고 있다고 가정한다. 하지만 저수지 제체에서 얻어지는 전기비저항 탐사자료는 저수지의 3차원 지형에 의해 크게 영향을 받는다. 본 연구에서는 유한요소법을 사용하는 3차원 전기비저항 탐사 모델링 프로그램을 통하여 저수지의 3차원 구조와 저수지 수위의 변화가 전기비저항 탐사자료에 미치는 영향을 평가하였다. 또한 측선의 위치에 따른 전기비저항 탐사자료를 비교하였으며, 지형보정 기법을 개발하였다. 마지막으로 누수구간이 존재하는 제체에 대한 3차원 모델링 자료에 대하여 2.5차원 역산을 수행하여 2차원 전기비저항 탐사법을 이용한 누수구간 탐지의 가능성을 분석하였다.

Deformation mechanisms of shallow-buried pipelines during road widening: Field and numerical investigation

  • The rapid development of the economy has compelled the widen of highways, and the main challenge of this undertaking lies in the uneven settlement of road embankments. Through field and numerical experiments, this study explores the deformation mechanism of shallow buried pipelines due to road widening. The utilization of Plaxis3D software, which is adapt at simulating complex engineering geological conditions, enables the simulation of the settlement of both the central and right-side road embankments. Comparing with other numerical software such as ABAQUS and COMSOL, Plaxis provided more constitutive models including HS, HSS and Hoek-Brown model. The work concludes that the uneven settlement of road cross-sections is positively correlated with the horizontal distance from the pipeline, with a maximum settlement of 73 mm observed after construction. Furthermore, based on the Winkler's assumption, theoretical settlement and stress calculation methods are established. Results indicate that the maximum difference between the calculated values of this formula and simulated values is 1.9% and 7%, respectively. Additionally, the study investigates the stress and settlement of the pipeline's top under different angles to understand its behavior under various conditions. It finds that with traffic loads applied to the new embankment, a lever effect occurs on the lower pipeline, with the fulcrum located within the central isolation zone, leading to a transition in curve type from "single peak and single valley" to "double peak and single valley." Moreover, the settlement of pipelines on both sides of the central isolation zone and the normal stress of the pipeline's top section are symmetrical.

Non-Darcy 흐름특성을 고려한 최종체절 수리특성분석 (Hydraulic Characteristic Analysis of Final Closing considering Non-Darcy Flow)

  • Non-Darcy 제체내 침투수 흐름과 배수갑문을 통한 흐름의 특성을 고려한 최종체절의 수리특성분석 모형에 의한 해석결과는 실측자료와 잘 일치하여 개발된 모형의 적용성이 있음을 보여주었다. 실측치와의 비교에서 본간(1985) 식에 의한 계산결과가 나정우(1987)에 의한 방법보다 비교적 정확함을 보여주었다. 아울러 완전 또는 불완전 월류의 구분이 없이 완전월류식에 잠수도를 이용한 유량계수식을 사용한 나정우 식의 사용성을 보여 주었다. 본간 식과 나정우 식에 의한 계산 값이 실측치보다는 유출입 특성이 크게 나타나 현장에서 체절구간의 불규칙적인 단면 양상을 감안한 유량계수의 조정이 필요할 것으로 판단된다. 일반적으로 최종체절의 수리특성 분석에서 제체구간의 침투수 흐름의 고려는 Darcy 흐름에 기초하여 분석하여왔다. 제체내 침투수의 유량과 개방구간을 통과하는 유량의 비가 체절구간이 좁을수록 크게 나타나, 제체내 침투수의 정확한 해석에 의한 체절구간의 수리특성을 분석해야할 필요가 있다.

Prediction model of service life for tunnel structures in carbonation environments by genetic programming

  • It is important to study the problem of durability for tunnel structures. As a main influence on the durability of tunnel structures, carbonation-induced corrosion is studied. For the complicated environment of tunnel structures, based on the data samples from real engineering examples, the intelligent method (genetic programming) is used to construct the service life prediction model of tunnel structures. Based on the model, the prediction of service life for tunnel structures in carbonation environments is studied. Using the data samples from some tunnel engineering examples in China under carbonation environment, the proposed method is verified. In addition, the performance of the proposed prediction model is compared with that of the artificial neural network method. Finally, the effect of two main controlling parameters, the population size and sample size, on the performance of the prediction model by genetic programming is analyzed in detail.

동적원심모형실험에 의한 재개발 저수지의 동적 거동특성 (Seismic Behavior of Deterioration Reservoir Embankment Using Dynamic Centrifugal Model Tests)

  • Recently, lots of damages have been lost because large magnitude earthquakes were occurred in the world. It has been increased the number of earthquakes in Korea. It needs improvement required for the repair of deteriorated reservoirs, reinforcement and raised reservoir coping with climate change and earthquake. This study aims to investigate the seismic behavior of deterioration reservoir levee using dynamic centrifugal model test. Therefore, two case tests in centrifugal field of 60 g, the result has provided the influence on the acceleration response, displacement, settlement and the pore water pressure of the reservoir with earthquakes. From the results larger displacement and acceleration response at the front side of reservoir embankment with poor-fabricated core in seismic condition may degrade overall stability. Reasonable reinforcement method of the raised reservoir embankment is required for ensuring long-term stability on earthquake.

  • 하천 만곡부에서는 높은 에너지의 편향적 흐름으로 인하여 제방침식 및 유사이송으로 하도변동을 야기하고 있는데 이러한 현상들은 제방의 불안정을 초래하고 인접 도로와 토지, 하천변 구조물에 심각한 문제를 야기할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 제방 침식과 하도변동을 방지할 수 있는 Riprap Weir를 S자 만곡수로에 설치하고, 만곡부에서의 수리학적 흐름특성을 분석하고자 한다. 이를 위해 이차원 CCHE2D 모형을 이용하여 실험하도를 구축하고 Riprap Weir의 유무에 따른 수리특성분석을 실시하였다. 이를 통해 Riprap Weir의 설치간격에 따른 만곡부 내측과 외측에서의 수리특성과 보 인근의 흐름특성을 분석하였다.

  • A making a decision of construction cost has important meaning and function for both contractor and owner in construction projects. Especially, it should be premised that estimating the construction cost in efficient and rational way in public construction, which is invested by government funds, for efficient execution of the budget and investment as a side of government. The systematic methodology for estimating construction cost approximately of a river facility construction project has not yet been established because of its unique characteristics including its relatively small project size in terms of cost. On this study, It collect and analyze a river facility construction historical cost data for develop an approximate cost estimating model for river applied by typical embankment section method and rate application of the others activity type. And it verify suitability of model through a that result of application of real river facility construction statement at developed model. By this study, it is expected to reasonable and systematic estimating construction cost through application of developed model.

UAV 영상(RGB, 적외 열 영상)을 활용한 하천환경 모니터링 (Stream Environment Monitoring using UAV Images (RGB, Thermal Infrared))

  • 최근, 하천의 수질오염 및 악취발생으로 민원이 증가하여 하천환경개선에 큰 관심이 모아지고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 하수 유입부에 대해 무인항공기(UAV)를 활용하여 RGB 및 적외 열 영상을 획득하고 하천제방 정비 계획 및 하천 오염 현황의 모니터링을 위한 응용성을 검토하였다. 특히, 하천 인근 공장에서 배출되는 폐수를 적외 열 영상으로 검출하여 폐수의 전파를 모니터링하였다. 또한 하천 제방 정비대상 지역과 인근지역에 대한 RGB영상을 SfM(Structure from Motion)기반 영상 해석을 통해 고정밀 3차원 모형을 제작하고 정확성을 검토하였다. 연구결과, UAV영상을 활용, 폐수유입에 따른 하천의 온도변화를 감지하여 수질오염의 유입부 및 전파 현상을 모니터링 할 수 있었다. 또한 고정밀 3차원 모델(수치지형도, 정사영상)을 제작, 정확성을 검토하고 하천의 제방정비를 위한 정밀 3차원 정보 및 식생 피복정보를 도출할 수 있었다.
