A frequency domain adaptive PID controller based on non-parametric plant model representation

  • In this paper, we propose a design method of PID adaptive controller based on frequency domain analysis. The method is based on the estimation of a nonparametric process model in the frequency domain and the determination of the PID controller parameters by achieving partial model matching so as to minimize a performance function concerning to relative model error between the loop transfer function of the control system and the desired system. In the design method the process is represented only by a discrete set of points on the Nyquist curve of the process. Therefore it is not necessary to estimate a full order parameterized process model.

  • This paper suggests a design method of the model-following H${\infty}$ control system having robust performance. This H${\infty}$ control system is designed by applying genetic algorithm(GA) with reference model to the optimal determination of weighting functions and design parameter ${\gamma}$ that are given by Glover-Doyle algorithm which can design H${\infty}$ controller in the state space. These weighting functions and design parameter ${\gamma}$ are optimized simultaneously in the search domain guaranteeing the robust performance of closed-loop system. The effectiveness of this H${\infty}$ control system is verified by applying to the boiler-turbine control system.

  • Construction industry, which is a composite industry being performed by organic combination of various tasks, gives birth to a various of information in the stages of planning, designing, and maintenance management. In particular, the drawing information is broad in the scope of use because it contains all information about buildings as wall as bid, materials, contracts. Therefore, the management of drawing information security is one of the most important factors, which determines the success of failure of business. The major findings and result of this study are as follows to control the distributed drawing information in the collaboration environment. 1) Analysis for function and practical use of DRM in the construction industry. 2) Proposal for applications of DRM that can secure IFC model-based drawing information in the collaboration environment. 3) Extraction from additional IFC entities to apply DRM to part 21 physical files 4) Analysis for functions which are necessary in DRM application prototype system and development of the system. 5) Development IFC model-based DRM prototype system.

A Study on the Control Model Identification and H(sub)$\infty$ Controller Design for Trandem Cold Mills

  • This paper considers the control model identification and H(sub)$\infty$ controller design for a tandem cold mill (TCM). In order to improve the performance of the existing automatic gauge control (AGC) system based on the Taylor linearized model of the TCM, a new mathematical model that can complement the Taylor linearized model is constructed by using the N4SID algorithm based on subspace method and the least squares algorithm based on ARX model. It is shown that the identified model had dynamic characteristics of the TCM than the existing Taylor linearized model. The H(sub)$\infty$ controller is designed to have robust stability to the system parameters variation, disturbance attenuation and robust tracking capability to the set-up value of strip thickness. The H(sub)$\infty$ servo problem is formulated and it is solved by using LMI (linear matrix inequality) techniques. Simulation results demonstrate the usefulness and applicability of the proposed H(sub)$\infty$ controller.

  • In this paper, we study robust linear optimal model following servo system in the presence of disturbances and parameter perturbations. A technique to directly design the generalized differential operator based unified control system that covers both differential operator based continuous time and delta operator based discrete time case is presented. The quadratic criterion function for a linear system is used to design the robust unified servo control system. This servo control system is designed by applying a simple genetic algorithm to follow the output of the reference model optimally. The characteristics of the proposed servo system are analysed and simulated to verify the robustness.

  • The complexity and severe nonlinearity of multi-machine power systems make it difficult to design a control input for voltage regulation using modern control theory. This paper presents a model-based PID control scheme for the regulation of the bus voltage to a desired value. To this end, a fourth-order linear system is constructed using input and output data obtained using the TSAT (Transient Security Assessment Tool); the input is assumed to be applied to the grid through the STATCOM (STATic synchronous COMpensator) and the output from the grid is a bus voltage. On the basis of the model, it is identified as to which open-loop poles of the system make the response to a step input oscillatory. To reduce this oscillatory response effectively, a model-based PID control is designed in such a way that the oscillatory poles are no longer problematic in the closed loop. Simulation results show that the proposed PID control dampens the response effectively.

  • An optimum design method for hybrid control systems is proposed in this study. By considering both active and passive control systems as a combined or a hybrid system, the optimization of the hybrid system can be achieved simultaneously. In the proposed approach, we consider design parameters of active control devices and the elements of the feedback gain matrix as design variables for the active control system. Required quantity of the added dampers are also treated as design variables for the passive control system. In the proposed method, the cost of both active and passive control devices, the required control efforts and dynamic responses of a target structure are selected as objective functions to be minimized. To effectively address the multi-objective optimization problem, we adopt a preference-based optimization model and apply a genetic algorithm as a numerical searching technique. As an example to verify the validity of the proposed optimization technique, a wind-excited 20-storey building with hybrid control systems is used and the results are presented.

  • This paper addresses the analysis and design of fuzzy control systems for a class of complex single input single output nonlinear systems. Firstly, the nonlinear system is represented by well-known Takagai-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy model and the global controller is constructed by compensating each linear model in the rule of TS fuzzy model. The design of conventional TS fuzzy-model-based controller usually is composed of two processes. One is to determine static state feedback gain of each local model and the other is to validate the stability of the designed fuzzy controller. In this paper, we propose an alternative of the design of TS fuzzy-model-based controller. The design scheme is based on the extension of conventional optimal control theory to the design of TS fuzzy-model-based controller. By using the proposed method the design and stability analysis of the TS fuzzy model-based controller is reduced to the problem of finding the solution of a set of algebraic Riccati equations. And we use the recently developed interior point method to find the solution of AREs, where AREs are recast as the LMI formulation. One simulation example is given to show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed fuzzy controller design method.

  • Model based design method reduces product development period and increases system software safety. In this paper, a BLDC motor controller based on model based design method is designed with Simulink and implemented with auto generated code which is written in C language. To retain the safety of software, this model is implemented according to MISRA AC SLSF guide. The validity of the implemented controller is verified with a real position control experiment, and execution times of each control loops are measured to compare the system performance of the conventional design and the model based design.

Robust Adaptive Control of Autonomous Robot Systems with Dynamic Friction Perturbation and Its Stability Analysis (동적마찰 섭동을 갖는 자율이동 로봇 시스템의 강인적응제어 및 안정성 해석)

  • This paper presents a robust adaptive control method using model reference control strategy against autonomous robot systems with random friction nature. We approximate a nonlinear robot system model by means of a feedback linearization approach to derive nominal control law. We construct a Least Square (LS) based observer to estimate friction dynamics online and then represent a perturbed system model with respect to approximation error between an actual friction and its estimation. Model reference based control design is achieved to implement an auxiliary control in order for reducing control error in practice due to system perturbation. Additionally, we conduct theoretical study to demonstrate stability of the perturbed system model through Lyapunov theory. Numerical simulation is carried out for evaluating the proposed control methodology and demonstrating its superiority by comparing it to a traditional nominal control method.
