The finite element (FE) method is generally used to model and simulate the physical behavior of large structures, such as passenger vehicles or aircraft. However, FE analysis involves a very large computation time and cost for developing the analysis model. Therefore, the vibration characteristics of large structural systems are often analyzed using the component mode synthesis (CMS) method, which is one of the substructure synthesis methods. In this study, the vibration characteristics of passenger vehicles are analyzed by using the substructure synthesis method. A passenger vehicle model, which includes a vehicle body, suspension systems, and a sub-frame, is presented. The physical components of the vehicle system are modeled as equivalent substructures using the Craig-Bampton method of CMS. The vibration characteristics, such as the natural frequencies and mode shapes and frequency response, of the vehicle system are determined. The effects of variations in some design parameters on the vibration characteristics of the full vehicle model are also investigated.

In this paper an optimization algorithm is suggested to reduce the huge computation time in the optimum design of large structures, especially in spacecraft structures. It combines the coupled load analysis model using a constrained mode of component mode synthesis and the modal transient analysis. The computer simulation code is developed and evaluated in optimizing spacecraft platforms. The developed algorithm can alleviate the computational load with adequate accuracy. From the optimization of a spacecraft structural member, the characteristics of each structural member can be understood.

The efficient dynamic modeling of a satellite with flexible solar arrays is established by using the component mode synthesis technique. A flexible satellite model can be defined as the assembly of two sub-structures, central body and solar array. The reduced models of each substructure, which are expressed in each local frame, are coupled with respect to the satellite reference frame. The dynamic modeling method is applied to the numerical example of a satellite with a single solar array, and is verified by investigating the transfer function results with considering the solar array rotation.

Titania particles are widely used as a photocatalyst to treat various contaminants in air and water. Titania particles were formed by vapor-phase oxidation of titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP) in a tube furnace between 773 and 1,273 K. The effect of process variables such as furnace temperature, flow rate of carrier air, and flow rate of sheath air on powder size and phase characteristics was investigated using a scanning mobility particle sizer (SMPS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The size distribution of synthesized titania particles was characterized with mode diameter and peak concentration. The mode diameter ranging from 20 to 80 nm decreased with increasing flow rates of sheath air and carrier air, and increased with increasing furnace temperature. The peak concentration increased with increasing flow rates of sheath air and carrier air The best synthetic condition for high production rate can be derived from the experimental data set represented by mode diameter and peak concentration. The crystal structure of synthesized titania particles was found to be anatase phase, ensuring high photocatalytic potential.
In this paper, some crucial performance characteristics related to the operational reliability of the post-fault Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) rectifiers, such as line current harmonic distortion, Common Mode Voltage (CMV), and current stress on the capacitors, are fully investigated. The aforementioned performance characteristics of post-fault rectifiers are highly dependent on the utilized space vector modulation (SVM) schemes, which are also examined. Detailed analyses of the three most commonly used SVM schemes for post-fault PWM rectifiers are provided, revealing the major differences in terms of the zero vector synthesis approaches. To compare the performances of the three SVM schemes, the operating principles of a post-fault rectifier are presented with various SVM schemes. Using analytical and numerical methods in the time domain, the performances of the line current distortion, common mode voltage and capacitor current are evaluated and compared for each SVM scheme. The proposed analysis demonstrates that the zero vector synthesis approaches of the considered methods have significant impacts on the performance characteristics of rectifiers. In addition, the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed SVM schemes are discussed. The experimental results verify the effectiveness and validity of the proposed analysis.

Finite Element Method(FEM) is the essential tools for analyzing structural and vibration problem. But common commercial program is high-priced and the usage is not easy. Hereby the authors developed FEM program by using Matlab, whose usage is very simple and whose performance is very high. For the convenience of use and calculating efficiency Component Mode Synthesis Method is adopted, which divides a structure by some sub-structures for easy handling, analyzes them by parts and analyzes the structure with encompassing Degrees of Freedom(DOF). And encompassed DOF could be restored to full DOF. To confirm the accuracy the program was applied to a flat plate, and the results were compared to experiment, and good agreements were achieved. The developed program is going to be opened to public.

An efficient optimization procedure combining the frequency approximation technique and the component-mode synthesis method is proposed for the structural dynamic optimization of the large structures subject to prescribed natural frequency constraints. Frequency constraints are approximated by using the first-order sensitivities with respect to both design parameters and their reciprocals. The component-mode synthesis method proposed by the authors in Ref.[8] is used for the repetitive detail finite-element analysis and sensitivity analysis. The validity of the proposed optimization procedure is confirmed through the numerical implementation of some examples. The presented approximation technique requires much smaller number of repetitive analysis than that using the sensitivities with respect to design parameters only, and further improvement in the numerical efficiency is achieved by the adoption of the introduced component-mode synthesis.

For performance and stability of a synchronized system, we need an efficient Clock Tree Synthesis(CTS) methodology to design clock distribution networks. In a system-on-a-chip(SOC) design environment, CTS effectively distributes clock signals from clock sources to synchronized points on layout design. In this paper, we suggest the pre-layout analysis of the clock network including gated clock, multiple clock, and test mode CTS optimization. This analysis can help to avoid design failure with potential CTS problems from logic designers and supply layout constraints so as to get an optimal clock distribution network. Our new design flow including pre-layout CTS analysis and structural violation checking also contributes to reduce design time significantly.
