  • In this paper, we propose a pose estimation method using local map acquired from 2d laser range finder information. The proposed method uses extended kalman filter. The state equation is a navigation system equation of Nomad Super Scout II. The measurement equation is a map-based measurement equation using a SICK PLS 101-112 sensor. We describe a map consisting of geometric features such as plane, edge and corner. For pose estimation we scan external environments by laser rage finer. And then these data are fed to kalman filter to estimate robot pose and position. The proposed method enables very fast simultaneous map building and pose estimation.

  • Map building is essential to a mobile robot navigation system. Localization and path planning methods depend on map building strategies. A topological map is commonly constructed using the GVG(Generalized Voronoi Graph). The advantage of the GVG based topological map is compactness. But the GVG method have many difficulties because it consists of collision-free path. In this paper, we proposed an extended map building method, the AVG (Areal Voronoi Graph) based topological map. The AVG based topological map consists of collision-free area. This feature can improve map building, localization and path planning performance.

  • In this paper, we present the Q-learning method for adaptive traffic signal control on the basis of multi-agent technology. The structure is composed of sixphase agents and one intersection agent. Wireless communication network provides the possibility of the cooperation of agents. As one kind of reinforcement learning, Q-learning is adopted as the algorithm of the control mechanism, which can acquire optical control strategies from delayed reward; furthermore, we adopt dynamic learning method instead of static method, which is more practical. Simulation result indicates that it is more effective than traditional signal system.

  • According to expansion of wireless communication system and mobile device, interest has been growing in personal navigation system integrated with wireless system. In portable consumer electronics, such as cellular phones, GPS and PDA, one of major design factors is the power consumption. Solutions of reducing the power dissipation are low voltage, low system clock power management and so on. This paper develops a GPS receiver based on the advanced power management algorithm that achieves very low average power consumption. Both RF and DSP chips are powered down and reactivated only when the position fixing is required. In order to run, the developed includes the RTC calibration function and the fast reacquisition function using XMC (eXtended Multiple Correlator) ...

  • This paper proposes a sensor-fusion technique where the data sets for the previous moments are properly transformed and fused into the current data sets to enable accurate measurement, such as, distance to an obstacle and location of the service robot itself. In the conventional fusion schemes, the measurement is dependent on the current data sets. As the results, more of sensors are required to measure a certain physical parameter or to improve the accuracy of the measurement. However, in this approach, instead of adding more sensors to the system , the temporal sequence of the data sets are stored and utilized for the measurement improvement. Theoretical basis is il lustrated by examples and...

  • We designed a family of completely autonomous mobile robots with local intelligence. Each robot has a number of on-board sensors, including vision, and does not rely on global positioning systems The on-board embedded controller is sufficient to analyze several low-resolution color images per second. This enables our robots to perform several complex tasks such as navigation, map generation, or providing intelligent group behavior. Not being limited to playing the game of soccer and being completely autonomous, we are also looking at a number of other interesting scenarios. The robots can communicate with each other, e.g. for exchanging positions, information about objects or just the local states they are currently in (e.g. sharing their current objectives with other robots in the group). We are particularly interested in the differences between a behavior-based approach versus a traditional control algorithm at this still very low level of action.

  • Autonomous action, which corresponds actively to the change of conditions in complicated circumstances, is a fundamental function required to an intelligent robot. To develope a control system for a robot having the ability to adapt itself to complicated circumstances, it is necessary to establish self-tracing technology, which recognizes the corresponding position between peripheral objects and itself. So we need to manipulate the moving system with flexibility. It is effective for solving problem that fuzzy theory is adapted to algorithm on a complicated circumstances. We develope a method to generate a route-map which has not only a course from the present position to the destination but also useful information on surroundings.

  • This paper proposes a novel approach to building an occupancy grid map using sonar data. It is very important for a mobile robot to recognize and construct its surrounding environments for navigation. However, the grid map constructed by ultrasonic sensors cannot represent a realistic shape of given environments due to incorrect sonar measurements caused by specular reflection. To overcome this problem, we propose an advanced sonar sensor model which consists of distance and shape factors used to determine the reliability of sensor data. Through this sensor model, a robot can build a high-quality grid map. The proposed method was verified by various experiments and showed that the robot could build an accurate map with sonar data in various indoor environments.
