  • Range-based wireless localization system must measure accurate range between a mobile node (MN) and reference nodes. However, non-line-of-sight (NLOS) error caused by the spatial structures disturbs the localization system obtaining the accurate range measurements. Localization methods using the range measurements including NLOS error yield large localization error. But filter-based localization methods can provide comparatively accurate location solution. Motivated by the accuracy of the filter-based localization method, a filter residual-based NLOS error estimation method is presented in this paper. Range measurement-based residual contains NLOS error. By considering this factor with NLOS error properties, NLOS error is mitigated. Also a process noise covariance matrix tuning method is presented to reduce the time-delay estimation error caused by the single dynamic model-based filter when the speed or moving direction of a MN changes, that is the used dynamic model is not fit the current dynamic of a MN. The presented methods are evaluated by simulation allowing direct comparison between different localization methods. The simulation results show that the presented filter is more accurate than the iterative least squares- and extended Kalman filter-based localization methods.

  • In this paper, we suggest that how to improve an accuracy of mobile robot's localization by using the sensor network information which fuses the machine vision camera, encoder and IMU sensor. The heading value of IMU sensor is measured using terrestrial magnetism sensor which is based on magnetic field. However, this sensor is constantly affected by its surrounding environment. So, we isolated template of ceiling using vision camera to increase the sensor's accuracy when we use IMU sensor; we measured the angles by pattern matching algorithm; and to calibrate IMU sensor, we compared the obtained values with IMU sensor values and the offset value. The values that were used to obtain information on the robot's position which were of Encoder, IMU sensor, angle sensor of vision camera are transferred to the Host PC by wireless network. Then, the Host PC estimates the location of robot using all these values. As a result, we were able to get more accurate information on estimated positions than when using IMU sensor calibration solely.

  • This paper addresses the localization and navigation problem using invisible two dimensional barcodes on the floor. Compared with other methods using natural/artificial landmark, the proposed localization method has great advantages in cost and appearance, since the location of the robot is perfectly known using the barcode information after the mapping is finished. We also propose a navigation algorithm which uses the topological structure. For the topological information, we define nodes and edges which are suitable for indoor navigation, especially for large area having multiple rooms, many walls and many static obstacles. The proposed algorithm also has an advantage that errors occurred in each node are mutually independent and can be compensated exactly after some navigation using barcode. Simulation and experimental results. were performed to verify the algorithm in the barcode environment, and the result showed an excellent performance. After mapping, it is also possible to solve the kidnapped case and generate paths using topological information.

  • In ubiquitous environments, there are a large number of various mobile devices everywhere. Recently, many studies have been research on distributed resources sharing in this ubiquitous environments. However, the problems with this researches are no considering user's situation and preference. Therefore in this paper, we suggest the personalized resource sharing system considering user's situation and preference. Our system is aware of user's situation by using user's schedule information and a context information such as the time and location information and recommends personalized resources by using the simple weighted scheme. We prove our situation-aware based personalized resource sharing system by using a meeting scenario.

  • The demand on low power and high performance system is soaring due to the extending of mobile and small electronic device market. The 3D die-stacking technology is widely studying for next generation integration technology due to its high density and low access time. We proposed the 3D die-stacked DRAM including a reconfigurable accelerator in a logic layer of DRAM. Also we discuss and suggest a cache-based local memory for a reconfigurable accelerator in a logic layer. The reconfigurable accelerator in logic layer of 3D die-stacked DRAM reduces the overhead of data management and transfer due to the characteristics of its location, so that can increase the performance highly. The proposed system archives 24.8 speedup in maximum.

  • In this paper, we present a method for generating and providing spatially encoded video data that can be effectively used by GIS applications. We collect the video data by a mobile mapping system called 4S-Van that is equipped by GPS, INS, CCD camera, and DVR system. The information about spatial object appearing in video, such as occupied region in each frame, attribute value, and geo-coordinate, are generated and encoded. We suggest methods that can generate such data for each frame in semi-automatic manner. We adopt standard MPEG-7 metadata format for representation of the spatially encoded video data to be generally used by GIS application. The spatial and attribute information encoded to each video frame can make visual browsing between map and video possible. The generated video data can be provided and applied to various GIS applications where location and visual data are both important.

  • The energy efficiency is a key design issue to improve the lifetime of the underwater sensor networks (UWSN) consisting of sensor nodes equipped with a small battery of limited energy resource. In this paper, we apply a hexagon tessellation with an ideal cell size to deploy the underwater sensor nodes for two-dimensional UWSN. Upon this setting, we propose an enhanced hybrid transmission method that forwards data packets in a mixed transmission way based on location dependent direct transmitting or uniform multi-hop forwarding. In order to select direct transmitting or uniform multi-hop forwarding, the proposed method applies the threshold annulus that is defined as the distance between the cluster head node and the base station (BS). Our simulation results show that the proposed method enhances the energy efficiency compared with the existing multi-hop forwarding methods and hybrid transmission methods

  • In recent mobile environments, query processing costs have been rapidly increasing as users request large amounts of queries. In addition, the server's performance is increasing for many users to handle high-capacity queries, but the workload is increasing continuously. To solve these problems, we use the wireless broadcasting environment. However, in a existing wireless broadcasting environment, servers have a problem sending all the objects they manage to their clients. Therefore, we propose a new R-Bcast combining the advantages of demand-based and wireless broadcasting. R-Bcast is a technique that protects query information and reduces query processing time. Experiments have proved that R-Bcast is superior to conventional techniques.
