  • A multicast session protocol in wireless networks reduces the session delay of multicast delivery caused by moving of mobile host. A hand-off scheme, called MSDR (multicast session delay reduction), in mobile networks is proposed. MSDR protocol that minimizes the delay of a session re-establishment uses the basic unicast routing function of the IETF mobile IP and the DFA (designated foreign agent) to provide multicast services for mobile hosts. Proposed MSDR protocol allows the mobile hosts to continuously receive packets when they move across the basic sets during hand-off. Discrete-event simulation carried out for performance evaluation of MSDR protocol, and simulation results indicated that our scheme can offer a better performance of multicast session delay reduction in terms of signalling cost than that of IETF.

  • For successfully deploying many multicast service in the mobile environment, security infrastructures must be developed that manage the keys needed to provide access control to content. In this paper, we propose two methods for designing the key management scheme for the mobile multicast environment. The proposed schemes match the key management tree to the mobile multicast environment for localizing the delivery of he rekeying messages, reducing the communication costs, and solving the handoff problem in wireless region.

  • In this paper, we propose a multicast routing protocol for the seamless delivery of multicast data to mobile hosts through the optimal route in IP based mobile networks. The proposed multicast routing protocol is a hybrid method employing the merits of the bi-directional tunneling and the remote subscription by considering the mobility of mobile hosts. The proposed protocol satisfies the bound of end-to-end delay and supports the seamless handoff. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol has better performance in the number of multicast tree reconstruction and tunneling length and packet loss time than the previous protocols.

  • Mobile IP is a solution to support mobile nodes, however, it does not handle NEtwork MObility (NEMO). The NEMO Basic Support (NBS) protocol ensures session continuity for all the nodes in the mobile network. Since the protocol is based on Mobile IP, it inherits the same fundamental problem such as tunnel convergence, when supporting the multicast for NEMO. In this paper, we propose the multicast route optimization scheme for NEMO environment. We assume that the Mobile Router (MR) has a multicast function and the Nested Mobile Router Information (NeMRI) table. The NeMRI is used to record o list of the CoAs of all the MRs located below it. And it covers whether MRs desire multicast services. Any Route Optimization (RO) scheme can be employed here for pinball routing. Therefore, we achieve optimal routes for multicasting based on the given architecture. We also propose cost analytic models to evaluate the performance of our scheme. We observe significantly better multicast cost in NEMO compared with other techniques such as Bi-directional Tunneling, Remote Subscription, and Mobile Multicast based on the NBS protocol.

  • MANET is a network composed only mobile network having limited resources and has dynamic topology characteristics. Therefore, every mobile node acts as a route and delivers data by using multi-hop method. In particular, group communication such as multicast is desperately needed because of characteristics such as battery life of limited wireless bandwidth and mobile nodes. However, the multicast technique can have different efficient of data transmission according to configuring method of a virtual topology by the movement of the nodes and the performance of a multicast can be significantly degraded. In this paper, the region based security multicast technique is proposed in order to increase the efficiency of data transmission by maintaining an optimal path and enhance the security features in data transmission. The group management node that manages the state information of the member nodes after the whole network is separated to area for efficient management of multicast member nodes is used. Member node encrypts using member key for secure data transmission and the security features are strengthened by sending the data after encrypted using group key in group management node. The superiority of the proposed technique in this paper was confirmed through experiments.

  • This paper proposes an efficient multicast scheme for the hierarchical mobile IPv6(HMIPv6). If a mobility anchor point(MAP) in a new domain does not support multicasting, an entering group member cannot join the multicast group through the new MAP The group member thus keeps receiving multicast packets from its home agent(HA) using Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6). This increases the propagation delay of binding update (BU) messages. However, our scheme enables an entering group member to keep receiving packets from the old multicast MAP. It can also reduce tunneling costs, total delivery costs and handover latency. We simulated the performance of our scheme by comparing it with the seamless multicast handover in a hierarchical mobile Pv6 (M-HMIPv6) using the delivery cost and handover latency factors.

  • Micro-mobility protocols have been developed to reduce the control message overhead due to movements of mobile nodes. With the spread of mobile devices, services using mobile nodes are increasing and multicast services are becoming more important in providing multimedia services. In this paper we propose a new multicast protocol suitable for micro-mobility environments. The proposed protocol is designed to maintain optimal multicast routing paths and continue to provide multicast services without disruption in spite of frequent handoffs due to movements of mobile nodes. We used simulation to evaluate the proposed protocol, compared its performance with existing multicast protocols for mobile environments including bi-directional tunneling, remote subscription, and MMA, and observed that the proposed protocol exhibited better performance in terms of transmission success ratio and overhead on the network.

  • Multicasting over mobile IP network becomes more important with the increasing needs of supporting multimedia services in mobile network. The IETF has suggested two approaches which are remote subscription and bidirectional tunneling for supporting mobility management in multicasting over mobile IP. But these protocols have problems - the frequent reconstruction of multicast delivery tree, packet less during handoff, convergence problem, and so on. In this paper, we propose to use preconfiguration of multicast delivery tree when mobile host enters the foreign network. It will decrease the frequency of multicast delivery tree reconstruction, and reduce the packet loss during handoff, Also the multicast delivery tree maintained by Keep Alive messages makes the signaling overload of networks diminished.

  • With the prevalence of multimedia applications and the potential commercial usage of Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) in group communications, Quality of Service (QoS) support became a key requirement. Recently, some researchers studied QoS multicast issues in MANETs. Most of the existing QoS multicast routing protocols are designed with flat topology and small networks in mind. In this paper, we investigate the scalability problem of these routing protocols. In particular, a Position-Based QoS Multicast Routing Protocol (PBQMRP) has been developed. PBQMRP builds a source multicast tree guided by the geographic information of the mobile nodes, which helps in achieving more efficient multicast delivery. This protocol depends on the location information of the multicast members which is obtained using a location service algorithm. A virtual backbone structure has been proposed to perform this location service with minimum overhead and this structure is utilized to provide efficient packet transmissions in a dynamic mobile Ad hoc network environment. The performance of PBQMRP is evaluated by performing both quantitative analysis and extensive simulations. The results show that the used virtual clustering is very useful in improving scalability and outperforms other clustering schemes. Compared to On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol (ODMRP), PBQMRP achieves competing packet delivery ratio and significantly lower control overhead.

  • In this paper, we propose a multicast routing scheme for an efficient and reliable support of multicast service to mobile hosts in IPv6 based networks. The purpose of this paper is to develop an algorithm to reduce both the number of multicast tree reconstruction and the multicast service disrupt time using the RSVP scheme. The proposed multicast routing scheme is a hybrid method using the advantages of the hi-directional tunneling and the remote subscription proposed by the IETF Mobile IP working group. The proposed scheme satisfies the maximum tolerable transfer delay time and supports the maximum tunneling service. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme has better performance in the number of multicast tree reconstruction and the time of multicast service disrupt than the previous schemes does.
