We investigated the surface modification method for the preparation of organic-inorganic hybrid composite thin film. Gelatin obtained from the decomposition of collagen was allowed to adsorb in a polystyrene tissue culture dish for 2 h to from layers of gelatin. Supersaturated ionic solution of calcium and phosphorus was injected on the gelatin adsorbed layer to form calcium phosphate thin film. During the initial period of incubation, nucleates were formed. With increase of the incubation time, CaP (calcium phosphate) thin film grew on the surface of the culture dish. The gelatin/CaP thin film displayed the highly porous three-dimensional surface structure. Attenuated, total reflectance Fourier transform, infra-red spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) was used to analyze the chemical properties of CaP film. The analysis demonstrated that the CaP film formed at initial period of treatment appeared to be amorphous. With increase of incubation time, the crystallinity of the film was slightly increased, but the presence of the peaks for the low crystalline CaP confirmed that the CaP thin film prepared in this study was poorly crystallized.

We synthesized molybdenum thin films deposited by RF magnetron sputtering and physicochemical analysis was performed. The physical and chemical properties of these films were examined with X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The obtained film at the oxygen ratio of 0% showed crystallinity of cubic Mo(110) phase. After the oxygen ratio increased more than 5% in the sputter gas, the molybdenum films were formed as an amorphous phase. The thickness of the Mo thin film was drastically decreased from 1000 nm to ca 70 nm after introduction of oxygen in the sputter gas confirmed by spectroscopic ellipsometer (SE) and scanning electron spectroscopy (SEM). The calculated band gap of the film deduced from SE data increased from 3.17 to 3.63 eV by addition of oxygen in the sputter gas. The roughness of the Mo film was examined with atomic force microscopy (AFM) and it was dramatically decreased by introducing of oxygen during sputtering. XPS results revealed that the ratio of metallic Mo species in the film decreased by the contents of Mo(VI) species increased at the ratio of oxygen increased in the sputter gas and fully oxidized at low content of oxygen in the sputter gas.
The variations of certain major and trace elements of the Onjong granite mass was studied on the basis of petrological and geochemical characteristics and compared with those of the Eonyang-Yucheon granite masses in order to investigate the geochemical differences of the granitic rocks in relation to mineralization between Pb-Zn ore district and Pb-Zn-Mo-W ore district in Kyeongsang basin. The Onjong granite mass is classified into granodiorite and monzo-granite, and the Eonyang-Yucheon granite masses into monzo-granite by the Streckeisen's diagram. Between both granite masses there are clear differences in contents of certain major elements and lithophile trace elements. The former have high contents of Ca (2.94%), Mg (1.66%) and Sr (365 ppm), and low contents of K (3.52%), Na (3.51%), Rb (116 ppm), Ba (640 ppm) and Li (18.9 ppm), whereas the latter have high contents of K (4.02%), Na (4.28%), Rb (145 ppm), Ba (695 ppm) and Li (19.3 ppm), and low contents of Ca (1.42%), Mg (0.43%) and Sr (161 ppm). Except for Mo, there are not clear differences in chalcophile trace elements between two granite masses: the Onjong granite mass has higher Mo content (7.1 ppm) lnan that (1.7 ppm) of the Eonyang-Yucheon granite masses, but Pb and Zn contents are similar between the Onjong granite mass (Pb=8.7 ppm, Zn=37.1 ppm) and the Eonyang-Yucheon granite masses (Pb=7.8 ppm, Zn=39.8 ppm). Ca and Sr contents of the Onjong granite mass (Ca> 1.5%, Sr> 270 ppm) are higher than those of the Eonyang- Yucheon granite masses (Ca<1.5%, Sr<270ppm), and Rb/Sr, Rb-Rb/Sr and K-Rb/Sr ratios are clearly distinguishable between the Onjong granite mass(Rb/Sr<0.51, Rb-Rb/Sr>250 and K-Rb/Sr>5.2) and the Eonyang- Yucheon granite masses (Rb/Sr>0.51, Rb-Rb/Sr<250 and K-Rb/Sr<5.0). Thus, variations of certain major and trace elements and ratios are applicable as geochemical index to distinguish the types of mineralization of the ore districts related to the Cretaceous granitic rocks in the Kyeongsang basin.
Tungsten ore deposits in China show clearly their relationship between granitoids and orebodies. All kinds of different tungsten ore deposits, having the largest ore reserves in the world, occur in China. Major tungsten deposits in 1950'years were locally confined in three provinces such as Jiangxi, Hunan and Guangdong. However, the major tungsten ore deposits are replaced by new tungsten deposits such as Sandahozhuang, Xingluokeng, Shizhuan and Daminghsan deposit which may be larger than the previous major deposits. Tungsten ore deposits of China exhibit obviously the granitoid was the ore-bringer to form tungsten ore deposits. The wolframite-bearing quarz veins in China indicate that tungsten mineralization took place by crystallization of wolframite preferentially unless $Ca^{{+}{+}}$ was introduced from outside into the magma-origin-fluid, since it is understood that the scheelite in the Sangdong ore deposit was preferentially precipitated, because of chemical affinity, from the tungsten fluid in which Fe and Ca ions were as sufficient as to form magnetite, wolframite and scheelite. Tungsten deposits in the world are divided into two systems; W-Mo-Sn system and W-Mo system. Most of tungsten deposits in China dated to about 196-116 Ma belong to the W-Mo-Sn system, while late Cretaceous tungsten deposits such as the Sangdong deposit in Korea belongs to the W-Mo system. The genetic order of tin-tungsten-molybdenum mineralization observed in the Moping tungsten mine in China and the Sangdong in Korea may be attributed to volatile pressures in the same magma chamber. It is assumed from ages of tungsten mineralizations that ore elements such as tin, tungsten and molybdenum might be generated periodically by nuclear fission and fusion in a part of the mantle and the element generated was introduced into the magma chamber. The periodical generation of elements had determined association, depletion and enrichment of tin and molybdenum in tungsten mineralization and it results in little association of cassiterite in tungsten deposit of late Cretaceous ages. Different mechanism of emplacement of the ore-bearing magma has brought various genetic types of tungsten deposits as shown in China and the world.
The nano-composite membranes were prepared onto the polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber membranes through twice dip-coating known layer-by-layer method. For the first coating, poly(vinylsulfonic acid, sodium salt)(PVSA) and Poly(styrene sulfonic acid)(PSSA) were used with varying the concentration and ionic strength (IS) and the poly(ethyleneimine)(PEI) as the second coating material was fixed at 10,000 ppm and IS = 0.3. To characterize the prepared nano-composite membranes, the permeabilities and rejection ratio were measured for each 100 ppm NaCl, $CaSO_4$, $MgCl_2$, and 25 ppm MO aqueous solution. The rejections were increased as the concentrations of coating materials increased. And it was confirmed that the salt rejections for PSSA as the coating material were higher than for PVSA. Typically, the permeability, 1.848 LMH and the rejection for MO 76.3% were obtained at the coating conditions of PSSA 30,000 ppm and I.S = 1.0.
Chili pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) is an economically important horticultural crop in Korea; however, various diseases, including Phytophthora root rot, anthracnose, powdery mildew, Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), Pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV), and Pepper mottle virus (PepMoV), severely affect their productivity and quality. Therefore, pepper varieties with resistance to multiple diseases are highly desired. In this study, we developed 20 SNP type assays for three pepper populations using Fluidigm nanofluidic dynamic arrays. A total of 4,608 data points can be produced with a 192.24 dynamic array consisting of 192 samples and 24 SNP markers. The assays were converted from previously developed sequence-tagged-site (STS) markers and included markers for resistance to Phytophthora root rot (M3-2 and M3-3), anthracnose (CcR9, CA09g12180, CA09g19170, CA12g17210, and CA12g19240), powdery mildew (Ltr4.1-40344, Ltr4.2-56301, and Ltr4.2-585119), bacterial spot (Bs2), CMV (Cmr1-2), PMMoV (L4), and PepMoV (pvr1 and pvr2-123457), as well as for capsaicinoids content (qcap3.1-40134, qcap6.1-299931, qcap6.1-589160, qdhc2.1-1335057, and qdhc2.2-43829). In addition, 11 assays were validated through a comparison with the corresponding data of the STS markers. Furthermore, we successfully applied the assays to commercial $F_1$ cultivars and to our breeding lines. These 20 SNP type assays will be very useful for developing new superior pepper varieties with resistance to multiple diseases and a higher content of capsaicinoids for increased pungency.

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic, relapsing inflammatory skin disease. This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic benefits of Aronia melanocarpa (AM) and Moringa oleifera seed extract (MO) on experimental atopic dermatitis. We examined the effects of AM or MO and their combination on 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB)-induced atopic dermatitis in BALB/c mice as well as tumor necrosis factor $(TNF)-{\alpha}$ and interferon $(IFN)-{\gamma}-stimulated$ HaCaT keratinocytes. Mice were orally treated with extract during repeated application of DNCB to shaved dorsal skin. Our results show that treatment with AM and MO in combination reduced histological manifestations such as epidermal hyperplasia and inflammatory cell infiltration. Furthermore, it significantly decreased skin thickness and serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) level compared to the AM or MO alone treated group. Combined extract of AM and MO suppressed expression of $TNF-{\alpha}/IFN-{\gamma}-induced$ T helper 2 (Th2) chemokines such as thymus and activation-regulated chemokine and macrophage-derived chemokine. To sum up, combination of AM and MO suppressed the inflammatory response and serum IgE as an indicator of several allergic diseases in DNCB-induced experimental atopic dermatitis and Th2 chemokine expression in HaCaT cells. This result suggests that combination of AM and MO could be a valuable strategy to improve atopic dermatitis.

The analysis of the full length genome of Korean isolates of Pepper mottle virus (PepMoV) in previous study showed molecular variations and are found to be related to symptom variation and pathogenicity (Kim et al., 2009, Virus Res. 144:83-88). To fully understand the molecular variation of PepMoV in Korea, we further assessed the role of RNA recombination to biological variation and evolution of PepMoV. Full-length genome of a total of 17 Korean-PepMoV and 2 American (CA and FL) isolates were examined for possible detection of genetic recombination using different recombination detections programs and detected 5 and 8 tentative recombination events using RDP3 and Splits Tree4 programs, respectively. Interestingly, tentative recombinants detected such as isolates 57, 134 and 217 were previously identified as severe isolates and 205135 and 205136 as differentiating isolates (Kim et al., 2009, Virus Res. 144:83-88). In addition, recombination was frequently detected in the Vb isolate, the first PepMoV isolate reported in Korea, suggesting significant involvement in the evolution of PepMoV in Korea. These initial results of our recombination analyses among PepMoV isolates in Korea may serve as clues to further investigate the biological variations and evolution of PepMoV brought about by recombination.
The effect of polyoxometalate monolayers on the electrodeposition of Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) on glassy carbon (GC) surfaces was examined by electrochemical and scanning electron microscope techniques. The presence of $SiMo_{12}O^{4-}_{40}$-layers resulted in average particle sizes of ca. 60 nm, which is larger than AuNPs deposited on bare GC surfaces. AuNPs electrodeposited on $SiMo_{12}O^{4-}_{40}$-modified GC surfaces for 20 s exhibited the best electrocatalytic activity for oxygen reduction. This system exhibited similar or slightly better efficiency for oxygen reduction than a bare Au electrode. Rotating disk electrode experiments were also performed and revealed that the catalytic reduction of oxygen on AuNPs deposited on $SiMo_{12}O^{4-}_{40}$-modified GC electrodes is a two-electron process.

The effect of limestone characteristics on in-furnace desulfurization was experimentally investigated at hot gas combustion condition in a drop tube furnace (DTF). Flue gas was measured by Gas analyzer in order to figure out $SO_2$ content. The experiments were performed under excess sulfur 3000ppm condition to examine the effect of operating variables such as reaction temperatures, Ca/S ratios on the $SO_2$ removal efficiencies. The results show that the $SO_2$ removal efficiency increased with reaction temperature and Ca/S ratio increase. When considering the economics, $1200^{\circ}C$ and Ca/S ratio 2 condition is optimized to reduce $SO_2$ emission.
