This study is focused on manganese (Mn(II)) removal by potassium permanganate ($KMnO_4$) in surface water. The effects of bicarbonate on Mn(II) indicated that bicarbonate could remove Mn(II), but it was not effectively. When 0.5 mg/L of Mn(II) was dissolved in tap water, the addition of $KMnO_4$ as much as $KMnO_4$ to Mn(II) ratio is 0.67 satisfied the drinking water regulation for Mn (i.e. 0.05 mg/L), and the main mechanism was oxidation. On the other hand, when the same Mn(II) concentration was dissolved in surface water, the addition of $KMnO_4$, which was the molar ratio of $KMnO_4/Mn(II)$ ranged 0.67 to 0.84 was needed for the regulation satisfaction, and the dominant mechanisms were both oxidation and adsorption. Unlike Mn(II) in tap water, the increasing the reaction time increased Mn(II) removal when $KMnO_4$ was overdosed. Finally, the optimum conditions for the removals of 0.5 - 2.0 mg/L Mn(II) in surface water were both $KMnO_4$ to Mn(II) ratio is 0.67 - 0.84 and the reaction time of 15 min. This indicated that the addition of $KMnO_4$ was the one of convenient and effective methods to remove Mn(II).

The RR protocole, proposed in IETF mip6 WG and standardized by RFC 3775 at lune 2004, send a message 'Binding Update' that express MN's location information to CN safety and update location information. Standard RR protocole has some problems with initiating the protocol by the MN; it causes to increases in communication load in the home network, to increases communication delay between MN and CN. Also, is connoting vulnerability to against attacker who are on the path between CN and HA in security aspect. This paper proposes doing to delegate MN's location information update rights by HA new location information update method. That is, When update MN's location information to HA, Using MN's private key signed location information certificate use and this certificate using method that HA uses MN's location information at update to CN be. It decreases the route optimization overhead by reducing the number of messages as well as the using location information update time. Also, remove security weakness about against attacker who are on the path between CN and HA.
The purpose of this study is to produce high putity composite powder composed of Fe-oxide, Mn-oxide and Mn-ferrite having superior homogencity in composition and particle size distribution by co-roasting process. Binary component metal (Fe, Mn) chloride solutions were produced by dissolving mill scale and ferro-mangancse alloy in hydrochloric acid. These chloride solutions contained the impurities such as SiO$_{2}$, P, Al, Ca and Na, which were originated from the Fe/Mn source materials. The neutralization and polymeric coagulant method were adoped to refine the hydrochloric liquor. When pH is far below the isoelectric point (pH 2-3), the SiO$_{2}$ was the most effectively reduced element, while other impurities remained unchanged. By increasing pH above 3, most of the impurities could be reduced effectively due to the coprecipitation reaction. The polymeric coagulants such as poly vinyl alcohol, resin amine and ammonium molybdate were found to have no effect on the spray roaster designed by the authors. The produced oxide powders were confirmed to be mixtures of Fe-oxide, Mn-oxide and mn-ferrite. the powders were homogeneously mixed and the particle size increased sleeply with increasing co-roasting temperature.
Typically, manganese (II) ions are incompletely removed from water as $MnO_2$ on increasing the pH of the water to 10. The water then has to be neutralized before it can be used. We propose a new and effective method for removing Mn (II) from water using a new combination of symbiotic microbes consisting of manganese-oxidizing bacteria and filamentous algae. The microbes rapidly oxidize Mn(II) to Mn (IV) at a neutral pH with no organic matter required as a nutrient and $MnO_2$is precipitated immediately. This differs from the use of heterotrophic manganese-oxidizing bacteria where organic nutrients are required. Our results suggest that this method will be useful in developing new systems for removal of manganese(II) ions from industrial and mining wastewater and drinking water. In addition, there are other possibilities such as recycling of dry batteries which are presently discarded without treatment
[ $BiFeO_3$ ]is a multiferroic material that attracts attentions of many research groups due to its potential as being ferroelectric and ferromagnetic above room temperature. We have prepared both undoped- and Mn-doped $BiFeO_3$ by sol-gel auto-ignition method. Doping of Mn has resulted in decreasing grain size from 60 to 32 nm. X-ray diffraction data show that the samples are pure and single-phase. Infrared measurements on $BiFeO_3$ and Mn-doped $BiFeO_3$ revealed intrinsic stretching vibrations of tetrahedral sites of $Fe^{3+}$-O and of octahedral $Bi^{3+}$-O as well. On the other hand, as the Mn concentration increases, the magnetic moment of $BiFeO_3$ increases. It gives some suggestions in manipulating structural and magnetic properties of $BiFeO_3$ by doping Mn.

Advanced oxidation processes (AOP) such as O3/activated carbon process and O3/catalysts process were used to compare the decomposition of phenol. Catalysts such as Pd/activated carbon (Pd/AC), Mn/activated carbon (Mn/AC), Co/activated carbon (Co/AC) and Fe/activated carbon (Fe/AC) were prepared by impregnation of Pd, Mn, Co and Fe into the activated carbon of pellet form, respectively. Based on an hour of reactions, the following descending order for the decomposition ratios of dissolved O3 to the 1.48 mg/L of saturated dissolved O3 was observed: Mn/AC (45%) > Pd/AC (42%) > Co/AC (33%) > AC (31%) > Fe/AC (27%). The removal efficiencies of phenol were also arranged in the descending order of AOP as follows: Mn/AC (89%) > Pd/AC (85%) > Co/AC (77%) > AC (76%) > Fe/AC (71%). The remaining ratios (C/Co) of TOC (total organic carbon) after an hour of experiments were arranged in the ascending order of AOP as follows : Pd/AC (0.29) < Mn/AC (0.36) < AC (0.40) < Co/AC (0.49) < Fe/AC (0.51). However, the catalytic effects in the Co/AC and the Fe/AC processes were little in comparison with O3/AC process. The maximum concentrations of intermediates such as hydroquinone and catechol formed from the decomposition of phenol were arranged in the ascending order of AOP as follows: Pd/AC < Fe/AC < Co/AC < AC < Mn/AC. In the case of Pd/AC process, these intermediates were almost disappeared after an one hour of reaction.

[ $MnO_2$ ]-Coated Sand(MCS) was prepared with variation of coating temperature, coating time, and dosage of initial Fe(III) with two kinds of sands such as Joomoonjin and quartz sand. An optimum condition for the preparation MCS was determined from the coating efficiency as well as the oxidation efficiency of As(III). Coating efficiency of Mn was strongly dependent on the coating temperature but quite similar over the investigated coating time, showing an increased coating efficiency at higher coating temperature. In contrast to coating efficiency, the oxidation efficiency of As(III) by MCS was severely reduced as increase of coaling temperature. By considering these results, an optimum coating temperature and time for the preparation of MCS was selected as $150^{\circ}C$ and 1-hr, respectively. Coating efficiency increased as the dosage of initial Mn(II) increased, while As(III) oxidation was maximum at 0.8 Mn(II) mol/kg sand. The solution pH was identified as an important parameter affecting stability of MCS, and dissolution of Mn from MCS increased as pH decreased. Oxidation rate of As(III) increased as the dosage of MCS increased as well as solution pH decreased.
Pulsed laser deposition was utilized to grow MnS thin films on c-sapphire substrate using a KrF excimer laser at growth temperatures that ranged from room temperature to $700^{\circ}C$. The results of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV-visible spectroscopy were employed to investigate the structural and optical properties of the MnS films. While the growth rate decreased as $T_s$ increased, the overall quality of the film improved. The highest quality MnS film was obtained at $700^{\circ}C$. Variations in the $T_s$ resulted in the MnS films exhibiting different growth mechanisms. The oriented (200) rocksalt MnS film was grown at room temperature. In the case of higher $T_s,\;200{\sim}500^{\circ}C$, the films consisted of mixed phases of rocksalt and wurtzite. The main structure of the films was altered to (111) rocksalt when the temperature was increased to in excess of $600^{\circ}C$. This behavior may very well be the result of elements such as surface energy and atomic arrangement during the growth process. The optical band gap of the obtained ${\alpha}-MnS$ film was estimated to be 3.32 eV.
In this work, manganese dioxide ($Mn_3O_4$)/carbon black (CB) composites (Mn-CBs) were prepared by an in situ coating method as electrical fillers and the effect of the Mn-CBs on the electrical performance of activated carbon (AC)-based electrodes was investigated. Structural features of Mn-CBs produced via in situ coating using a $KMnO_4$ solution were confirmed by XRD and TEM images. The electrical performances, including cv curves, charge-discharge behaviors, and specific capacitance of the ACs/Mn-CBs, were determined by cyclic voltammograms. It was found that the composites of $Mn_3O_4$ and CBs were successfully formed by in situ coating method. ACs/Mn-CBs showed higher electrical performance than that of AC electrodes fabricated with conventional CBs due to the pesudocapacitance reaction of manganese oxides in the aqueous electrolyte. Consequently, it is anticipated that the incorporation of $Mn_3O_4$ into CBs could facilitate the utilization of CBs as electrical filler, leading to enhanced electrochemical performance of AC electrodes for supercapacitors.
This study aims to evaluate whether the accuracy of LiDAR DEM is affected by the changes of the five input levels ('1','3','5','7' and '9') of median parameter ($F_{md}$), mean parameter ($F_{mn}$) of the Filtering Algorithm (FA) in the GroundFilter module and median parameter ($I_{md}$), mean parameter ($I_{mn}$) of the Interpolation Algorithm (IA) in the GridSurfaceCreate module of the FUSION in order to present the combination of parameter levels producing the most accurate LiDAR DEM. The accuracy is measured by the residuals calculated by difference between the field elevation values and their corresponding DEM elevation values. A multi-way ANOVA is used to statistically examine whether there are effects of parameter level changes on the means of the residuals. The Tukey HSD is conducted as a post-hoc test. The results of the multi- way ANOVA test show that the changes in the levels of $F_{md}$, $F_{mn}$, $I_{mn}$ have significant effects on the DEM accuracy with the significant interaction effect between $F_{md}$ and $F_{mn}$. Therefore, the level of $F_{md}$, $F_{mn}$, and the interaction between two variables are considered to be factors affecting the accuracy of LiDAR DEM as well as the level of $I_{mn}$. As the results of the Tukey HSD test on the combination levels of $F_{md}{\ast}F_{mn}$, the mean of residuals of the '$9{\ast}3$' combination provides the highest accuracy while the '$1{\ast}1$' combination provides the lowest one. Regarding $I_{mn}$ levels, the mean of residuals of the both '3' and '1' provides the highest accuracy. This study can contribute to improve the accuracy of the forest attributes as well as the topographic information extracted from the LiDAR data.
