  • The effects of Mn2O3 and Y2O3 additives on the microstructure and dielectric properties of Sr(Zr, Ti)O3 have been investigated. Powders with Sr(Zr1-xTix)O3(0$\leq$x$\leq$0.1) composition were prepared by the conventional solid state processing from commercial TiO2 and precipitation-processed ZrO2. The powders containing sintering additives of Mn2O3 and Y2O3 were compacted and then sintered at 1,55$0^{\circ}C$ for 4 h to get>97% relative density. Mn2O3 suppressed the grain growth and Y2O3 enhanced the density of sintered body. The oxidation state of Mn ions were determined by a chemical wet method and EPR spectroscopy. Mn ions were present as Mn2+ and Mn4+ in SrZrO3, while as Mn3+ and Mn4+ in Ti-substituted Sr(Zr, Ti)O3. With the substitution of Ti, the lattice parameters of SrZrO3 decreased and its dielectric constant increased with remarkable decrease in Q value. The dielectric constant of Sr(Zr, Ti)O3 was in the range of 30 to 40, Q values 1,200~5,400 at 6 GHz and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency -67~100 ppm/K.

  • In this study, NO oxidation reaction using $Mn/TiO_2$ catalysts was investigated. NO oxidation results revealed that the different trend was observed upon physicochemical properties of $TiO_2$ and interactions between Mn and $TiO_2$ support. $Mn/TiO_2(A)$ catalyst has a superior NO oxidation activity, which increased with decreased space velocity and increased Mn amounts from 10 to 30 wt%. The results indicated that the SCR activity could increase by the fast SCR reaction process using the $Mn/TiO_2(A)$ catalyst located in front of the SCR unit.

  • 10 wt% Mn supported on various commercial $TiO_2$ catalysts were prepared by wet-impregnation method for the low temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with $NH_3$. A combination of various physico-chemical techniques such as BET, XRD, XPS and TPR were used to characterize these catalysts. MnOx surface densities on MnOx/$TiO_2$ catalyst were related to surface area. As MnOx surface density lowered with high dispersion, the SCR activity for low temperature was increased and the reduction temperature ($MnO_2$ ${\rightarrow}$ $Mn_2O_3$) of surface MnOx was lower. For a high SCR, MnOx could be supported on a high surface area of $TiO_2$ and should be existed a high dispersion of non-crystalline species.

  • In this study, (Sr.Pb.Ca)TiO3-Bi2O3.3TiO2(SPCT) systems were investigated to develop a new material which has a high dielectric constant, a low dielectric loss and a small TCC(Temperature Coefficient of Capa-citance), and are suitable for high voltage applications as a function of the additions of Bi2O3.3TiO2 from 5 mol.% to 9 mol.%. The result obtained from our investigation showed that up to 6 mol.% Bi2O3.3TiO ad-dition the dielectric constant increased and it deteriorated at higher concentrations with increasing amount of the acicular grains. As a result of some dopants (SiO2, Nb2O3, MnO2) addition to SPCT, the specimens with MnO2 showed good dielectric properties. The dielectric constant decreased, but the TCC was improved with the addition of MnO2 from 0.15 wt.% to 0.45 wt. %.

  • The NOx conversion properties of Mn-Cu-$TiO_2$ and $V_2O_5$/$TiO_2$ catalysts were studied for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with ammonia. The performance of the catalysts was investigated in terms of their $NOx$ conversion activity as a function of the reaction temperature and space velocity. The activity of the Mn-Cu-$TiO_2$ catalyst decreased with increasing reaction temperature and space velocity. However, the activity of the $V_2O_5$/$TiO_2$ catalyst increased with increasing reaction temperature. High activity of the Mn-Cu-$TiO_2$ catalyst was observed at temperatures below $200^{\circ}C$. H2-TPR and XPS analyses were conducted to explain these results. It was found that the activity of the Mn-Cu-$TiO_2$ catalyst was influenced by the thermal shock caused by the change of the initial reaction temperature, whereas the $V_2O_5$/$TiO_2$ catalyst was not affected by the initial reaction temperature. In the case of catalyst C, the $NO_x$ conversion efficiency decreased with increasing space velocity. The decrease in the $NO_x$ conversion efficiency with increasing space velocity was much less for catalyst D than for catalyst C.

  • Synthesis of $PbLaTiO_{3}$ : Mn powders containing La and Mn was carried out using $PbO,\;TiO_{2},\;La_{2}O_{3}\;and\;MnO_{2}$ as starting materials by hydrothermal method. In the synthesis of single phase $PbLaTiO_{3}$ : Mn powder containing La and Mn, the optimal x value corresponding to La substitution was 0.01 which corresponds to $0.99(Pb_{1-x}La_{2x/3}TiO_{3})+0.01MnO_{2}$. The optimal conditions for the preparation of the powder synthesis were 8 M-KOH solvent of hydrothermal solvent, $270^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature and 24 hrs of run time. It was found that the synthesized powders had spherical morphology with average particle size of 70 nm and specific surface area of $5.5\;m^{2}/g$.

  • To effectively destruct 2-chlorophenol, a representative sterile preservative, nanometer-sized Mn (0.5, 1.0, 3.0 mol %)-incorporated $TiO_2$ powders were synthesized by a solvothermal method. XRD result demonstrated that the Mn ingredients were perfectly inserted into $TiO_2$ framework. The Mn-$TiO_2$ particles exhibited an anatase structure with a particle size of below 20 nm. The absorbance was shifted to the higher wavelength on Mn-$TiO_2$ compared to that of $TiO_2$. Otherwise, the PL intensities which has a close relationship for recombination between holes and electrons significantly decreased on Mn-$TiO_2$. The photodecomposition for 2-chlorophenol in a liquid system was enhanced over Mn-doped $TiO_2$ compared with pure $TiO_2$: 2-chlorophenol of 50 ppm was completely decomposed after 12 h when 1.0 mol % Mn-$TiO_2$ was used. Consequently, the core of this paper is as follows. introducing Mn into $TiO_2$ framework reduced the band-gap, moreover, it played as an electron capture resulted to lower recombination between electrons and holes during photocatalytic reaction for removal of 2-cholophenol.

  • Effects of MnO2 addition ranged from 0.0wt% to 5.0wt% on the microstructure and dielectric and piezoelectric properties of the Pb(Zr0.52 Ti0.48)O3 Ceramics have been investigated. The solubility limit of MnO2 in Pb(Zr0.52 Ti0.48)O3 is about 0.5wt%, and MnO2 as a valence state of Mn3+ is substituted for (Zr, Ti) lattice site in PZT solid-solution. The addition of MnO2 up to 0.5wt% in Pb(Zr0.52 Ti0.48)O3 brings increase of density, but decreased of grain size and tetragonality. Dielectric constant slightly decreases, but both coupling factor(Kp) and mechanical quality factor(Qm) increase with the addition of MnO2. However, excess amount of MnO2 addition more than 0.75wt% results in rapid decrease of resistance. Dielectric constant and tan $\delta$ increase due to the second phase and inhomogeneous Mn distribution.

  • A (5 wt.%)Mn-(1 wt.%)$V_{2}O_{5}/TiO_{2}$ catalyst were prepared by co-precipitation method and used for low-temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of $NO_x$ with ammonia in the presence of oxygen. The properties of the catalysts were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), temperature programmed reduction (TPR) and scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). The experimental results showed that (5 wt.%)Mn-(1 wt.%)$V_{2}O_{5}/TiO_{2}$ catalyst yielded 81% NO conversion at temperature as low as $150^{\circ}C$ and a space velocity of $2,400\;h^{-1}$. Crystalline phase of $Mn_{2}O_3$ was present at ${\ge}\;15%$ Mn on $V_{2}O_{5}/TiO_{2}$. XRD confirmed the presence of manganese oxide ($Mn_{2}O_{3}$) at $2{\theta}=32.978^{\circ}(222)$. The XRD patterns presented of (5 wt.%)Mn-(1 wt.%)$V_{2}O_{5}/TiO_{2}$ did not show intense or sharp peaks for manganese oxides and vanadia oxides. The TPR profiles of (5 wt.%)Mn-(1 wt.%)$V_{2}O_{5}/TiO_{2}$ catalyst showed main reduction peat of a maximum at $595^{\circ}C$.

  • This study presents the effect of oxygen on the $NH_3$ selective catalytic reduction (SCR) by Mn/$TiO_2$ catalyst. The lattice oxygen of catalysts is participate in the low temperature SCR, and the gaseous oxygen directly takes part in the rexoidtion of reduced catalyst. These redox properties of oxygen an play important role in SCR activity and the available capability of lattice oxygen depends on the manganese oxidation state of the catalyst surface. $MnO_2$ species has a higher redox property than that of $Mn_2O_3$ species on deposited $TiO_2$ surface and these manganese oxide states strongly depend on the $TiO_2$ surface area.
