Acetolactate synthase (ALS) catalyzes the first common step in the biosynthesis of valine, leucine, and isoleucine. ALS is the target enzyme for several classes of structually diverse herbicides. We have synthesized 4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine derivatives as ALS inhibitors, and their inhibitory activities on barley ALS were determined. $IC_{50}$ values for the derivatives are 0.2~200 ${\mu}m$. K11570, the most potent ALS inhibitor with $IC_{50}$ of 0.2 ${\mu}m$, showed mixed-type inhibition with respect to substrate pyruvate, and the progress curves for ALS inhibition by K11570 indicated that the amount of inhibition increased with time. Inhibition-competition experiments were carried out and indicated that three different classes of inhibitors, K11570, a sulfonylurea Ally, and leucine, bind to ALS in a mutually exclusive manner. Chemical modification of tryptophanyl and tyrosyl residues of ALS decreased the sensitivity of ALS to K11570, while cysteine modification did not affect the sensitivity. These results suggest that tryptophanyl and tyrosynyl residues are probably located at or near the inhibitor binding site.
Piezoelectric and dielectric behaviors of a piezoceramic patch adhesively centered on a carbon composite plate are identified using a robust multi-objective optimization procedure. For this purpose, the patch piezoelectric stress coupling and blocked dielectric constants are automatically evaluated for a wide frequency range and for the different identifiable behaviors. Latters' symmetry conditions are coded in the design plans serving for response surface methodology-based sensitivity analysis and meta-modeling. The identified constants result from the measured and computed open-circuit frequencies deviations minimization by a genetic algorithm that uses meta-model estimated frequencies. Present investigations show that the bonded piezoceramic patch has effective three-dimensional (3D) orthotropic piezoelectric and dielectric behaviors. Besides, the sensitivity analysis indicates that four constants, from eight, dominate the 3D orthotropic behavior, and that the analyses can be reduced to the electromechanically coupled modes only; therefore, in this case, and if only the dominated parameters are optimized while the others keep their nominal values, the resulting piezoelectric and dielectric behaviors are found to be transverse-isotropic. These results can help designing piezoceramics smart composites for various applications like noise, vibration, shape, and health control.

A flat type microgas sensor was fabricated on the p-type silicon wafer with low stress S $i_3$$N_4$, whose thickness is 2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ using MEMS technology and its characteristics were investigated. W $O_3$thin film as a sensing material for detection of N $O_2$gas was deposited using a tungsten target by sputtering method, followed by thermal oxidation at several temperatures (40$0^{\circ}C$~$600^{\circ}C$) for one hour. N $O_2$gas sensitivities were investigated for the W $O_3$thin films with different annealing temperatures. The highest sensitivity when operating at 20$0^{\circ}C$ was obtained for the samples annealed at $600^{\circ}C$. As the results of XRD analysis, the annealed samples had polycrystalline phase mixed with triclinic and orthorhombic structures. The sample exhibit higher sensitivity when the system has less triclinic structure. The sensitivities, $R_{gas}$$R_{air}$ operating at 20$0^{\circ}C$ to 5 ppm N $O_2$of the sample annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ were approximately 90. 90.

The wet coating process could easily be made from large area film with printing paste mixed with semiconductor and binder material at room temperature. Semiconductor film fabricated about 25mm thickness was evaluated by field emissions-canning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). X-ray performance data such as dark current, sensitivity and signal to noise ratio (SNR) were evaluated. The $Hgl_2$ semiconductor was shown in much lower dark current than the others, but the best sensitivity. In this paper, reactivity and combination character of semiconductor and binder material that affect electrical and X-ray detection properties would prove out though experimental results.
Cloud-aerosol interactions are one of the paramount but least understood forcing factors in climate systems. Generally, an increase in the concentration of aerosols increases the concentration of cloud droplet numbers, implying that clouds tend to persist for longer than usual, suppressing precipitation in the warm boundary layer. The cloud lifetime effect has been the center of discussion in the scientific community, partly because of the lack of cloud life cycle observations and partly because of cloud problems. In this study, the precipitation susceptibility (So) matrix was employed to estimate the aerosols' effect on precipitation, while the non-aerosol effect is minimized. The So was calculated for the typical coupled, well-mixed maritime stratocumulus decks and giant cloud condensation nucleus (GCCN) seeded clouds. The GCCN-artificially introduced to the marine stratocumulus cloud decks-is shown to initiate precipitation and reduces So to approximately zero, demonstrating the cloud lifetime hypothesis. The results suggest that the response of precipitation to changes in GCCN must be considered for accurate prediction of aerosol-cloud-precipitation interaction by model studies
Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) enables the detection of various types of π-conjugated biological and chemical molecules owing to its exceptional sensitivity in obtaining unique spectra, offering nondestructive classification capabilities for target analytes. Herein, we demonstrate an innovative strategy that provides significant machine learning (ML)-enabled predictive SERS platforms through surface-engineered graphene via complementary hybridization with Au nanoparticles (NPs). The hybridized Au NPs/graphene SERS platforms showed exceptional sensitivity (10-7 M) due to the collaborative strong correlation between the localized electromagnetic effect and the enhanced chemical bonding reactivity. The chemical and physical properties of the demonstrated SERS platform were systematically investigated using microscopy and spectroscopic analysis. Furthermore, an innovative strategy employing ML is proposed to predict various analytes based on a featured Raman spectral database. Using a customized data-preprocessing algorithm, the feature data for ML were extracted from the Raman peak characteristic information, such as intensity, position, and width, from the SERS spectrum data. Additionally, sophisticated evaluations of various types of ML classification models were conducted using k-fold cross-validation (k = 5), showing 99% prediction accuracy.
Purpose: It is said that persons with low vision (LV) require larger object and longer exposure time to make a visual judgment. The spatial summation stands for the increasing of contrast sensitivity (CS), as the target size is enlarged. Likewise, the term temporal summation is used when the CS increases as the exposure duration is extended. The present study investigates whether or not greater target and longer exposure duration is required for LV subjects than for control subjects. Methods: Twenty subjects with LV and twenty age-matched controls took part in the study. The CS was measured with a 2 alternative forced choice stair case for 0.7 and 3.0 cycle per degree (c/d) static sinusoidal gratings within a circular aperture. The results were analyzed by mixed ANOVA (2${\times}$2). Results: As expected, the CS in the LV group were overall depressed. For spatial summation, mixed ANOVA (2 groups${\times}$2 spatial frequencies) gave p values of 0.13 for the effect of group, 0.14 for spatial frequency and there was no interaction (p=0.59). Similarly, for temporal summation the results were p=0.19 for group, 0.31 for spatial frequency and p=0.95 for interaction. Conclusions: Despite the depression of CS in the LV group, a significant difference for spatial and temporal summation between two subject groups was not reached.
Seismic response of two dimensional liquid tanks is numerically simulated using fully nonlinear velocity potential theory. Galerkin-weighted-residual based finite element method is used for solving the governing Laplace equation with fully nonlinear free surface boundary conditions and also for velocity recovery. Based on mixed Eulerian-Lagrangian (MEL) method, fourth order explicit Runge-Kutta scheme is used for time integration of free surface boundary conditions. A cubic-spline fitted regridding technique is used at every time step to eliminate possible numerical instabilities on account of Lagrangian node induced mesh distortion. An artificial surface damping term is used which mimics the viscosity induced damping and brings in numerical stability. Four earthquake motions have been suitably selected to study the effect of frequency content on the dynamic response of tank-liquid system. The nonlinear seismic response vis-a-vis linear response of rectangular liquid tank has been studied. The impulsive and convective components of hydrodynamic forces, e.g., base shear, overturning base moment and pressure distribution on tank-wall are quantified. It is observed that the convective response of tank-liquid system is very much sensitive to the frequency content of the ground motion. Such sensitivity is more pronounced in shallow tanks.
This study applied the Bayesian method for the quantification of the parameter uncertainty of spatial linear mixed model in the estimation of the spatial distribution of probability rainfall. In the application of Bayesian method, the prior sensitivity analysis was implemented by using the priors normally selected in the existing studies which applied the Bayesian method for the puppose of assessing the influence which the selection of the priors of model parameters had on posteriors. As a result, the posteriors of parameters were differently estimated which priors were selected, and then in the case of the prior combination, F-S-E, the sizes of uncertainty intervals were minimum and the modes, means and medians of the posteriors were similar to the estimates using the existing classical methods. From the comparitive analysis between Bayesian and plug-in spatial predictions, we could find that the uncertainty of plug-in prediction could be slightly underestimated than that of Bayesian prediction.

Manufacturers, or vendors, and their customers continue to adopt vendor-managed inventory(VMI) program to improve supply chain performance through collaboration achieved by consolidating replenishment responsibility upstream with vendors. In this paper, we construct a mixed integer linear programming model and propose a genetic algorithm for the integrated inventory and routing problems with lost sales maximizing the total profit in the VMI supply chains which comprise of a single manufacturer and multi-retailer. The proposed GA is compared with the mathematical model on the various sized test problems with respect to the solution quality and computation time. As a result, the GA demonstrates the capability of reaching solutions that are very close to those obtained by the mathematical model for small problems and stay within 3.2% from those obtained by the mathematical model for larger problems, with a much shorter computation time. Finally, we investigate the effects of the cost and operation variables on the total profit of the problem as well as the GA performance through the sensitivity analyses.
