EVALUATION OF THE RADIOMETRIC AND SPECTRAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CAISS

  • The Compact Airborne Imaging Spectrometer System (CAISS) was jointly designed and developed as the hyperspectral imaging system by Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) and ELOP inc., Israel. The primary mission of the CAISS is to acquire and provide full contiguous spectral information with high quality spectral and high spatial resolution for advanced applications in the field of remote sensing. The CAISS consists of six physical units; the camera system, the gyro-stabilized mount, the jig, the GPS/INS, the power inverter and distributor, and the operating system. These subsystems shall be tested and verified in the laboratory before the flight. Especially the camera system of the CAISS shall be calibrated and validated with the calibration equipments such as the integrated sphere and spectral lamps. To improve data quality and availability, it is the most important to understand the mechanism of hyperspectral imaging system and the radiometric and spectral characteristics. This paper presents the major characteristics of camera system on the CAISS and summarizes the results of radiometric and spectral experiment during preliminary system verification.

원전 케이블 화재 열속평가 및 열화 진단방법에 관한 연구 (A Study on Heat-Flux Evaluation for Cable Fire Including Diagnostic Methodology for Degradation in Nuclear Power Plants)

  • The fire event occurred in fire proof zone often causes serious electrical problems such as shorts, ground faults, or open circuits in nuclear power plants. These would be directed to the loss of safe shutdown capabilities performed by safety related systems and equipments. The fire event can treat the basic design principle that safety systems should keep their functions with redundancy and independency. In case of a multi-core cable fire, operators can not perform their mission properly and can misjudge the situation because of spurious operation, wrong indication or instrument. These would deteriorate the plant capabilities of safety shutdown and make disastrous conditions. In this paper, the characteristic of cable fire is investigated and the heat-flux evaluation for cable fire is studied. Moreover, a diagnostic methodology for degraded cable in nuclear power plants is presented.

  • Unmanned Aircraft System(UAS) is a huge and complicated system that is composed of UAV, ground control system, datalink system, and mission equipments. We have applied system engineering to development of UAS. Configuration management is very important activity for efficient developments. The Configuration management process comprises four distinct disciplines (Configuration identification, Configuration control, Configuration status accounting, and Configuration audit). This paper explains the configuration management system of UAS development project which ADD executes and introduces several examples of these four disciplines.

Performance Analysis of the GPS Antenna for Satellite Launch Vehicles under the Hot -Temperature Environment

  • In order to use a GPS antenna for launch vehicles, it should be installed on the skin of the vehicle and be able to normally receive the live GPS signals during the vehicle's full flight mission. The GPS antenna on the surface of the launch vehicle is, however, exposed to higher temperature than inner equipments of the vehicle due to aerodynamic heating generated during the flight. Test specification of the GPS antenna for qualification of hot-temperature is determined to $+95^{\circ}C$ that is higher than inner components by $25^{\circ}C$. Test results in this paper show that the GPS antenna normally operates under the above environment.

무인항공기용 저비용 고효율 무선통신 시스템 개발 (Development of a Cost Effective Radio Communication System for UAS)

  • 무인항공기가 성공적으로 임무를 수행하는데 있어서는 비행제어용 장치나 임무장비로부터 나오는 데이터를 효율적으로 전송할 수 있는 장비가 필수적이다. 이러한 요구조건은 무인항공기가 복잡해지면서 더욱 강화되고 있다. 이런 무선통신장치의 활용은 무인기의 활용단계 뿐 아니라 초기 개발과정부터 필요한 기본 장비의 하나이다. 이 논문에서는 무인항공기의 개발과 운용에 효율적으로 쓸 수 있는 무선통신시스템을 제시한다. 이 시스템의 하향통신은 탑재 카메라에서 나오는 영상과 데이터를 결합하여 2.4 GHz의 고속으로 전송하며 상향은 전송률보다는 안정성에 비중을 두어 430 MHz 신호를 사용한다. 이 논문에서는 이러한 하드웨어체계에 대한 설명뿐 아니라 통신 패킷 구조를 제시하는데 이는 많은 동급의 무인항공기에 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

  • 음성은 사람의 가장 자연스러운 정보 전달 수단이며, 음성인식 기술은 사람이 기계를 사용하는데 있어 편의성을 높이기 위해 필요성이 점차 증대되고 있다. 현대 전투기의 조종석은 디지털 기술의 발달로 인하여 항공전자 장비의 기능이 다양하고 복잡해지고 있으며, 전투기를 조종하여 공격 임무를 수행해야 하는 조종사에게 항공전자 장비의 운용으로 인한 임무 부하량이 증대되기 마련이다. 따라서 음성인식 기술을 이용하여 항공전자장비를 운용하게 되면, 조종사는 공격 임무에 더 많은 시간과 노력을 할애할 수 있게 된다. 본 연구는 전투기 조종석에 적용 가능한 음성명령 시스템을 개발하고, 검증환경을 구축하여 음성명령 시스템의 기능 및 성능을 검증한 것이다.

예비전력 정예화 방안 (A scheme on strengthening of R.O.K reserved force)

  • Reserved forces of ROKA are in charge of replacement of TOE in the wartime and mission of rear area operation. But there is institutional inertia in the law and organization oriented to fill human resources rather than take mission. We need to prepare for the investment and arrangement of reserved forces as military power that would be replaced standing forces. In this portion, to reinforce reserve forces elite, First, efficient mobilization regulations and systems are suggested. I covered a maintenance of relevant mobilization ordinances which need to legislated and approved by national assembly for wartime and development of mobilization system which might lose the appropriate time for mobilization due to complicated declaration procedures and measures to overcome the panic at the initial stage of the war and organization and employment of nationwide transportation system and mobilization center. To ensure efficient resource management and mobilization of reserve forces with a number of approximately 3 million, there's a necessity of organization for integration and conciliation. To make it real, I suggested establishing and employing the mobilization center, on first phase, employ the mobilization center focusing on homeland divisions, on second phase, it is advisable to convert to national level mobilization system and develop to central mobilization center focusing on national emergency planning committee. During peacetime, in conjunction with Mobilization Cell, mobilization center can conduct resource survey and integrate and manage mobilization resources and take charge of mobilization training of subordinate units, and during wartime, in conjunction with mobilization coordination team and Cell, can ensure the execution of mobilization. Second, Future oriented reserve forces management system such as service system of reserve forces and support system of homeland defense operations. Current service and trainings of reserve forces by the year have very low connection, as it is very complex to manage the resources and trainings, and service and training lack the equity, re-establishment of service system is required. Also in an aspect of CSS and cultivation support for reserve forces, as the scope and limitation of responsibility between the armed forces and autonomous organization is obscure, conditions to conduct actual-fighting exercises are limited. Concentrated budgetting is extremely difficult because reserve forces training fields are scattered nationwide, and facilities and equipments are rapidly getting older. To improve all these, I suggest the organization of homeland defense battalion with a unit of "City-Gun-District" and supporting the local reserve forces. Conduct unit replacement or personal replacement for those who have finished their 1 or 2 years and homeland defense operation duty for those with 3-5 years for consistency and simplification. Third, I suggest Future oriented Reserved Training(FRT) and Training Center oriented training management to establish a reliable reserve training. Reserves carry out expansion of unit, conventional combat mission, homeland defense and logistics support during wartime, and actual-fighting exercise, and disaster relief, peace keeping activities. Despite diverse activities and roles, their training condition still stays definitely poor. For these reasons, Modernization of weapons and facilities through gradual replacement and procurement is essential to enhance mobilization support system.

  • LTE (Long Term Evolution) 네트워크를 기반으로 하는 공공안전 및 재난통신 관련 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있으며, 기지국의 도움 없이 직접통신이 가능한 D2D (Device-to-Device) 통신 기술은 차세대 공공안전 및 재난통신망의 기반 기술로 각광받고 있다. 본 논문에서는 재난 지역의 기지국이 붕괴되었거나 통신 폭주로 인해 자원 할당이 지연되는 경우에 D2D 단말 탐색을 활용하여 재난 지역 단말들의 통신을 위한 신속하고도 정확한 주파수 자원 확보 기술을 제안한다.

수중 작업에 있어서 극한 환경의 잠수 활동 기준 검토 (A Study on the Diving Standards for Underwater Work in Hostile Environment)

  • 본 연구는 극한 환경에서의 잠수 기준에 대해 살펴보고, 2010년 3월 백령도 근해에서 발생한 천안함 침몰사고의 실종자 수색 작업에 적용된 우리 해군의 잠수 방식과 사용 장비, 절차 등에 대한 분석을 하였다. 이번 잠수작업은 국제 기준이나 안전을 고려하면 작업을 해서는 안 되는 조건인데도 불구하고 작업이 시행되었으며, 초기 수색 작업에 있어서 임무의 성격, 신속성, 효율성을 고려하고 세부적으로 수심과 잠수 가능시간, 작업의 종류, 환경 조건, 작업 기간을 검토한 결과, 공기를 사용하는 스쿠버 방식이 적절하였다고 분석되었다.

미국선교치과의사 쉐플리와 세브란스연합의학교 치과학교실 개설의 역사적 의의 (The historical implications of American missionary dentist W.J. Scheifley and the first Korean Dental Department established in the Severance Union Medical College)

  • This article discusses accomplishments and historical implications of American missionary dentist W.J. Scheifley and the first Korean dental department, which was established in 1915 in Korea. W.J. Scheifley, with Christian service mind and mission as a dentist, applied to American Protestantic missionary dentist overseas. The dental department in the Severance Union Medical College introduced the scientistic dental education of America, facilitated research on the dental condition of the Korean people, and ran independent dental clinic. W.J. Schiefley criticised the profit-seeking attitude of Japanese dentists and denturist(="IPCHISA", in Korean pronunciation) and emphasized on the significance of Oral Health. He did all kind of dental treatments with advanced equipments like X-ray machine, and managed the collective oral health care for missionaries overseas. He trained medical students and assistants of the dentists with the goal of producing Korean dentists, but he failed due to the Dentist law introduced by Japanese colonial administration that interfered with producing Korean dentists. However, O.R. Avison's proposal of the establishment of dental schools stimulated the establishment of Kyungsung dental school, which provided the basis for the Dental department in the Severance Union Medical College becoming special training institution for Korean Dentists.
