Efficient Global Optimization (EGO) method is a global optimization technique which can select the next sample point automatically by infill sampling criteria (ISC) and search for the global minimum with less samples than what the conventional global optimization method needs. ISC function consists of the predictor and mean square error (MSE) provided from the kriging model which is a stochastic metamodel. Also the constrained EGO method can minimize the objective function dealing with the constraints under EGO concept. In this study the constrained EGO method applied to the RAE2822 airfoil shape design formulated with the constraint. But the noisy CFD data caused the kriging model to fail to depict the true function. The distorted kriging model would make the EGO deviate from the correct search. This distortion of kriging model can be handled with the interpolation(p=free) kriging model. With the interpolation(p=free) kriging model, however, the search of EGO solution was stalled in the narrow feasible region without the chance to update the objective and constraint functions. Then the accuracy of EGO solution was not good enough. So the three-step search method was proposed to obtain the accurate global minimum as well as prevent from the distortion of kriging model for the noisy constrained CFD problem.
The plot design influences the budgets and the precision of forest inventory results. The objective of this study is to determine the efficiency of estimating forest variables such as tree density, basal area, volume, and species richness based on various plot sizes using fixed-area plot sampling in the natural deciduous forest of Pyeong-Chang County, Gang-won Province, Korea. In this study, 108 reference plots were established with a fixed plot size and shape of 0.09 ha ($30m{\times}30m$). In order to determine the optimal plot size for the interest of variables, each sample plot was established using different shapes (square, circle, and rectangle) and was divided into different plot sizes from 100 to $900m^2$. The mean relative difference (MRD) for the sum of the basal area and volume, and tree density per hectare decreased as plot size increased. But the MRD for three variables were only below 13% at the plot size of $500m^2$. Species richness for each reference stand observed ranging from 2 to 15 species, demonstrated highly positive significant relationships with plot size. The minimum plot size for the estimation of tree density, the sum of the BA and volume was determined to be about $400m^2$, whereas the estimation of species richness required a minimum plot size of $500m^2$.
For the evaluation of safety margin of a nuclear power plant using a conservative methodology, the influence of applied assumptions such as initial conditions and boundary conditions needs to be assessed deliberately. Usually, a combination of the most conservative initial conditions is determined, and the safety margin for the transient is evaluated through the analysis for this conservative conditions. In existing conservative methodologies, a most-conservative condition is searched through the analyses for the maximum, minimum, and nominal values of the major parameters. In the present study, we investigates a new approach which can be applied to choose a most-conservative initial condition effectively when a best-estimate computer code and a conservative evaluation methodology are utilized for the evaluation of safety margin of transients. By constituting the band of various initial conditions using the random sampling of input parameters, the sensitivity study for various parameters are performed systematically. A method of sampling the value of control or operation parameters for a certain range is adopted by use of MOSAIQUE program, which enables to minimize the efforts for achieving the steady-state for various different conditions. A representative control parameter is identified, which governs the reactor coolant flow rate, pressurizer pressure, pressurizer level, and steam generator level, respectively. It is shown that an appropriate distribution of input parameter is obtained by adjusting the range and distribution of the control parameter.
An effective sampling method is necessary to monitor potato tuber moths (Phthorimaea operculella) because they are the biggest concern in potato-cultivating areas. In this study, a sequential sampling method was developed based on the results of field surveys of potato tuber moths in South Korea. Potato tuber moths were collected in fields cultivating potatoes at six sites, and their spatial distribution was investigated using the Taylor power law. The optimal sampling size and cumulative number of potato tuber moths in traps to stop sampling were determined based on the spatial distribution pattern and mean density of the collected potato tuber moths. Finally, the developed sampling method was applied to propose a control action, and its sampling efficiency was compared with that of the traditional sampling method using a binomial distribution. The potato tuber moths tended to aggregate; the optimal number was approximately 5 - 16 traps for sampling, and the number varied with the mean density of potato tuber moths according to the sampling sites. In addition, one, two, and three sites might require the following actions: Continued sampling, control, and no control, respectively. Sampling with the binomial distribution showed the minimum sample size was 12 when considering the economic threshold level. Here, we propose an effective sampling method that can be applied for future monitoring and field surveys of potato tuber moths in South Korea.

The purpose of this study is to estimate the minimum proportion of probe vehicles for obtaining expressway traffic information using VISSIM, a micro traffic simulation model, between Yongin IC and Yangji IC on Yeongdong Expressway. 7,200 scenarios were created for the experiment, and 40 scenarios were adopted using the Latin hypercube sampling method because it was difficult to perform all the scenarios through experiments. The reliability of the experiment was improved by adding a situation when the general situation and the accident situation exist. In the experiments, the average travel time of probe vehicles at different market penetration rates were compared with the average travel time of the entire vehicles. As a result, the minimum market penetration rate of probe vehicles for obtaining expressway traffic information was found to be 45%. In addition, it is estimated that 25% market penetration rate of probe vehicle can meet 70% of traffic situations in accident scenario.

In planning a model-based phylogenic study for highly related ethnic data, the SNP marker number is an important factor to determine for relationship inferences. Genotype frequency data, utilizing a sub sampling method, from 63 Pan Asian ethnic groups was used for determining the minimum SNP number required to establish such relationships. Bootstrap random sub-samplings were done from 5.6K PASNPi SNP data. DA distance was calculated and neighbour-joining trees were drawn with every re-sampling data set. Consensus trees were made with the same 100 sub-samples and bootstrap proportions were calculated. The tree consistency to the one obtained from the whole marker set, improved with increasing marker numbers. The bootstrap proportions became reliable when more than 7,000 SNPs were used at a time. Within highly related ethnic groups, the minimum SNPs number for a robust neighbor-joining tree inference was about 7,000 for a 95% bootstrap support.
1) The purpose of this study was to compare the forest survey by ground method with that by aerial photo method. 2) In this study, the forest type map was made by use of the radial line plotter and radial line triangulation method. 3) The difference between the area found by the forest type map above mentioned and that by compass surveying on the ground was none-significant. 4) On aerial photo the stratification was carried out very easily. 5) The following sampling methods were applied : line plot method, representative sampling method and stratified random sampling on the aerial photo. 6) In confirming sampling point the line plot method and the representative sampling method were easier than another. 7) As to stands volume the maximum value was given by stratification, and the minimum by line plot method.
Background: Crabgrass (Digitaria ciliaris, Poaceae) is a globally distributed weed, including in Afro-Eurasia, America, and Australia. As a highly gregarious plant, crabgrass is an important habitat for a diverse array of insects, and a potential habitat for agricultural pests. To compare the insect communities associated with the crabgrass community, insects were sampled using sweep sampling (100 sweeps per sample) at five sites, including Daejeon (Daejeon and Gap rivers), Anseong, Namhae, and Inje, with a focus on the Daejeon River. Results: A total of 5,888 individual insects belonging to eight orders, 42 families, and 115 species were collected from the five sites. Both the number of species and individuals of Hemiptera were the highest at all of the sites. In the present study, 73% of the insect population fed on D. ciliaris as a host plant. The dominant species in the D. ciliaris community was Laodelphax striatellus (Delphacidae), being ubiquitous at all the sites which showed a high abundance of rice pests in the communities and the suitability of D. ciliaris as an alternative host plant for them. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index was highest in Inje on 17 September (2.88), and the Chao1-bc diversity index was highest in the Gap River on 5 September (80). The sampling efficiency of 100 sweep samples (sample coverage) was calculated to be as high as 90%. The results of the samples taken from September to November in the Daejeon River showed that the number of species and individuals decreased gradually over time, and the number of dominant species decreased sharply between September and October. Similarity analysis indicated that sampling dates that were closer together yielded sampled assemblages with higher faunal similarity. In addition, in each sampling, the difference in the minimum temperature during the two-week period prior to sampling and faunal similarities were negatively correlated. Conclusions: This study provides foundational data that could enhance our understanding of insect diversity in D. ciliaris. The data can facilitate ecological conservation and management of Korean grasslands generally, as well as identification of potential pests that may disperse from D. ciliaris communities to nearby farmland.
In this paper, we developed one-stage cluster randomized response model for obtaining quantitative data by using the Greenberg et al. model(1971) when the population was made up of sensitive quantitative clusters. We obtained the minimum variance by calculating the cluster's size and the optimum number of sample clusters under the some given constant cost. We compared the efficiency of our model with the Greenberg et al. model by simple random sampling.

This paper presents an algorithm for the permanent magnet shape optimization of a large scale BLDC(Brushless DC) motor to minimize the cogging torque. A response surface method (RSM) using multiquadric radial basis function is employed to interpolate the objective function in design parameter space. In order to get a reasonable response surface with relatively small number of sampling data points, additional sampling points are added on the basis of design sensitivity analysis computed by using FEM. The algorithm has 2 stages: the first stage is to determine the PM arc angle, and the 2nd stage is to optimize the magnet pole shape. The developed algorithm is applied to a 5MW BLDC motor to get a minimum cogging torque. After 3 iterations with 4 design parameters, the cogging torque is reduced to 13.2% of the initial one.
