The high-level contribution of this paper is to illustrate the effectiveness of using graph theory tree traversal algorithms (pre-order, in-order and post-order traversals) to generate the chain of sensor nodes in the classical Power Efficient-Gathering in Sensor Information Systems (PEGASIS) data aggregation protocol for wireless sensor networks. We first construct an undirected minimum-weight spanning tree (ud-MST) on a complete sensor network graph, wherein the weight of each edge is the Euclidean distance between the constituent nodes of the edge. A Breadth-First-Search of the ud-MST, starting with the node located closest to the center of the network, is now conducted to iteratively construct a rooted directed minimum-weight spanning tree (rd-MST). The three tree traversal algorithms are then executed on the rd-MST and the node sequence resulting from each of the traversals is used as the chain of nodes for the PEGASIS protocol. Simulation studies on PEGASIS conducted for both TDMA and CDMA systems illustrate that using the chain of nodes generated from the tree traversal algorithms, the node lifetime can improve as large as by 19%-30% and at the same time, the energy loss per node can be 19%-35% lower than that obtained with the currently used distance-based greedy heuristic.
In mobile ad hoc networks(MANETs), all the nodes in a network have limited resources. Therefore, communication topology which has long lifetime is suitable for nodes in MANETs. And MANETs are exposed to various threats because of a new node which can join the network at any time. There are various researches on security problems in MANETs and many researches have tried to make efficient schemes for reducing network power consumption. Power consumption is necessary to secure networks, however too much power consumption can be critical to network lifetime. This paper focuses on energy efficient monitoring node distribution for enhancing network lifetime in MANETs. Since MANETs cannot use centralized infrastructure such as security systems of wired networks, we propose an efficient IDS node distribution scheme using minimum spanning tree (MST) method to cover all the nodes in a network and enhance the network lifetime. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better performance in comparison with the existing algorithms.

Employing PTAS to building minimum spanning tree for a large number of equal distribution input terminal nodes can be a effective way in execution time. But applying PTAS to building minimum spanning tree for tremendous unequal distribution node may lead to performance degradation. In this paper, a partial PTAS reflecting the scheme into specific node dense area is presented. In the environment where 90% of 50,000 input terminal nodes stand close together in specific area, approximate minimum spanning tree by our proposed scheme can show about 88.49% execution time less and 0.86%tree length less than by existing PTAS, and about 87.57%execution time less and 1.18% tree length more than by Prim's naive scheme. Therefore our scheme can go well to many useful applications where a multitude of nodes gathered around specific area should be connected efficiently as soon as possible.
This study deals with the DCMST (Delay constrained Capacitated Minimum Spanning Tree) problem applied in the topological design of local networks or finding several communication paths from root node. While the traditional CMST problem has only the traffic capacity constraint served by a port of root node, the DCMST problem has the additional mean delay constraint of network. The DCMST problem consists of finding a set of spanning trees to link end-nodes to the root node satisfying the traffic requirements at end-nodes and the required mean delay of network. The objective function of problem is to minimize the total link cost. This paper presents two-phased heuristic algorithm, which consists of node exchange, and node shift algorithm based on the trade-off criterions, and mean delay algorithm. Actual computational experience and performance analysis show that the proposed algorithm can produce better solution than the existing algorithm for the CMST problem to consider the mean delay constraint in terms of cost.

In this paper, we discuss the differences between an ordinary B-tree and B-tree implemented by NTFS. There are lots of distinctions between the two B-tree, if not understand the distinctions fully, it is difficult to utilize and analyze artifacts of NTFS. Not much, actually, is known about the implementation of NTFS, especially B-tree index for directory management. Several items of B-tree features are performed that includes a node size, minimum number of children, root node without children, type of key, key sorting, type of pointer to child node, expansion and reduction of node, return of node. Furthermore, it is emphasized the fact that NTFS use B-tree structure not B+structure clearly.

Several protocols which are based on tree topology to guarantee the important metrics such as energy efficiency in sensor networks have been proposed. However, studies on the effect of topologies in sensor networks, where base node has a high mobility, are very few. In this paper, we propose a minimum Wiener index tree as a suitable topology to the wireless sensor networks with high mobile base node. The minimum Wiener index spanning tree problem which aims to find a tree with minimum Wiener index from a given weighted graph was proved to be NP-hard. We designed a branch and bound algorithm for this problem. To evaluate the performance of proposed tree, the comparisons with minimum spanning tree in terms of transmission distance, energy consumption during one round, and network lifetime was performed by simulations. Our proposed tree outperformed in transmission distance and energy efficiency but underperformed in lifetime.

In this paper, we present an efficient implementation of Kruskal's algorithm to obtain a minimum spanning tree. The proposed method utilizes the union-find data structure, reducing the depth of the tree of the node set by making the nodes in the path to root be the child node of the root of combined tree. This method can reduce the depth of the tree by shortening the path to the root and lowering the level of the node. This is an efficient method because if the tree's depth reduces, it could shorten the time of finding the root of the tree to which the node belongs. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated through the graphs generated randomly. The results showed that the proposed method outperformed the conventional method in terms of the depth of the tree.

This paper suggests an algorithm that obtains Directed Graph Minimum Spanning Tree (DMST), using Prim MST algorithm which is Minimum Spanning Tree (MST) of undirected graph. At first, I suggested the Prim DMST algorithm that chooses Minimum Weight Arc(MWA) from out-going nodes from each node, considering differences between undirected graph and directed graph. Next, I proved a disadvantage of Prim DMST algorithm and Chu-Liu/Edmonds DMST (typical representative DMST) of not being able to find DMST, applying them to 3 real graphs. Last, as an algorithm that can always find DMST, an advanced Prim DMST is suggested. The Prim DMST algorithm uses a method of choosing MWA among out-going arcs of each node. On the other hand, the advanced Prim DMST algorithm uses a method of choosing a coinciding arc from the out-going and in-going arcs of each node. And if there is no coinciding arc, it chooses MWA from the out-going arcs from each node. Applying the suggested algorithm to 17 different graphs, it succeeded in finding the same DMST as that found by Chu-Liu/Edmonds DMST algorithm. Also, it does not require such a complicated calculation as that of Chu-Liu/Edmonds DMST algorithm to delete the cycle, and it takes less time for process than Prim DMST algorithm.

It is required to transmit data through shorter path between sensor and base node for real time intrusion detection in wireless sensor networks (WSN) with a mobile base node. Because minimum Wiener index spanning tree (MWST) based routing approach guarantees lower average hop count than that of minimum spanning tree (MST) based routing method in WSN, it is known that MWST based routing is appropriate for real time intrusion detection. However, the minimum Wiener index spanning tree problem which aims to find a spanning tree which has the minimum Wiener index from a given weighted graph was proved to be a NP-hard. And owing to its high dependency on certain nodes, minimum Wiener index tree based routing method has a shorter network lifetime than that of minimum spanning tree based routing method. In this paper, we propose a multi-objective ant colony optimization algorithm to tackle these problems, so that it can be used to detect intrusion in real time in wireless sensor networks with a mobile base node. And we compare the results of our proposed method with MST based routing and MWST based routing in respect to average hop count, network energy consumption and network lifetime by simulation.

This paper suggests an algorithm that obtains the Minimum Spanning Tree for directed graph (DMST). The existing Chu-Liu/Edmonds DMST algorithm has chances of the algorithm not being able to find DMST or of the sum of ST not being the least. The suggested algorithm is made in such a way that it always finds DMST, rectifying the disadvantage of Chu-Liu/Edmonds DMST algorithm. Firstly, it chooses the Minimum-Weight Arc (MWA) from all the nodes including a root node, and gets rid of the nodes in which cycle occurs after sorting them in an ascending order. In this process, Minimum Spanning Forest (MST) is obtained. If there is only one MSF, DMST is obtained. And if there are more than 2 MSFs, to determine MWA among all MST nodes, it chooses a method of directly calculating the sum of all the weights, and hence simplifies the emendation process for solving a cycle problem of Chu-Liu/Edmonds DMST algorithm. The suggested Sulee DMST algorithm can always obtain DMST that minimizes the weight of the arcs no matter if the root node is set or not, and it is also capable to find the root node of a graph with minimized weight.
