  • A total of one hundred twenty pigs ($L{\times}Y{\times}D$, $50{\pm}0.78kg$) were employed for a 7-week feeding trial to determine the effect of inclusion levels of vitamin and mineral (VTM) premixes on growth performance, nutrient digestibility and pork stability in finishing pigs. Treatments were 100% (Control), 150%, 200%, and 250% of NRC (1998) requirements. Increasing dietary VTM premixes in finishing pigs had a linear (p<0.05) effect on ADG. It also had a linear effect (p<0.05) on the digestibility of calcium and a linear and quadratic effect (p<0.05) on the digestibility of phosphorus. As dietary VTM levels were increased from 100 to 250% NRC (1998), TBARS values of pork samples were linearly (p<0.05) lowered when stored at $1^{\circ}C$ for 2 or 3 weeks. There was also a trend reducing POV of pig meat as dietary VTM level was increased. In conclusion, it would appear that inclusion of VTM premixes at the level of 200-250% of NRC (1998) requirements gave positive effects on growth performance and pork stability in finishing pigs.

  • In posterior maxilla, it is difficult to achieve primary stability of implants due to sinus pneumatization, alveolar bone loss, and low bone quality. The accurate and objective primary stability assessment is important for good prognosis of implants. Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the primary stability of the non-submerged, internal type implants with maxillary sinus augmentation using deproteinized bovine bone mineral by a resonance frequency analyzer, when residual alveolar bone height is under 8mm Materials and methods: A total of 20 implants was placed into 5 grafted maxillary sinuses in 5 patients. Deproteinized bovine bone mineral (Bio-$Oss^{(R)}$) was used as graft material. SS II implants (diameter 4.1mm, and length 11.5mm, SLA suface)) were placed. All of the patients received maxillary sinus graft procedure by 1-step technique. Residual bone height was $1.3{\sim}7.8mm$ (mean 4.4mm) measured by panorama radiography. After implant placement, RFA was measured at 4,8,12,20 weeks. The results were divided into 2 groups; RFA value under 4mm and over 5mm of bone height. It was statistically analyzed. Results: 1. The primary stability of implants was increased with time 2. The RFA value was above 65 ISQ at 12 weeks 3. There was no correlation between RFA and residual alveolar bone height in maxillary sinus augmentation by 1-step technique. Conclusion: 1-step surgical procedure is a feasible option for patients with as little as 4mm residual alveolar bone height, when utilizing non-submerged, internal type implants with xenografts.

  • Landslide prediction modeling has been regarded as one of the important environmental applications in GIS. While, landslide stability in a certain area as collateral process for prediction modeling can be characterized by DEM-based hydrological features such as flow-direction, flow-accumulation, flow-length, wetness index, and so forth. In this study, Slope-Area plot methodology followed by stability index mapping with these hydrological variables is firstly performed for stability analysis with actual landslide occurrences at Boeun area, Korea, and then Landslide prediction modeling based on likelihood ratio model for landslide potential mapping is carried out; in addition, KOMPSAT EOC imagery is used to detect the locations and scalped scale of Landslide occurrences. These two tasks are independently processed for preparation of unbiased criteria, and then results of those are qualitatively compared. As results of this case study, land stability analysis based on DEM-based hydrological variables directly reflects terrain characteristics; however, the results in the form of land stability map by landslide prediction model are not fully matched with those of hydrologic landslide analysis due to the heuristic scheme based on location of existed landslide occurrences within prediction approach, especially zones of not-investigated occurrences. Therefore, it is expected that the resets on the space-robustness of landslide prediction models in conjunction with DEM-based landslide stability analysis can be effectively utilized to search out unrevealed or hidden landslide occurrences.

  • In order to provide sufficient stability and resistance against bleeding and segregation during transportation and placing, mineral admixtures are often used in self-compacting concrete mixes (SCC). These fine materials also contribute to reducing the construction cost and the consumption of natural resources. Many studies have confirmed the benefits of these mineral admixtures on properties of SCC in standard curing conditions. However, there are few published reports regarding their effects at elevated curing temperatures. The main objective of this study is to investigate the effect of three different mineral admixtures namely limestone powder (LP), granulated blast furnace slag (GS) and natural pozzolana (PZ) on mechanical properties and porosity of SCC when exposed to different curing temperatures (20, 40, 60 and $80^{\circ}C$). The level of substitution of cement by mineral admixture was fixed at 15%. The results showed that increasing curing temperature causes an improvement in performance at an early age without penalizing its long-term properties. However the temperature of $40^{\circ}C$ is considered the optimal curing temperature to make economical and high performance SCC. On the other hand, GS is the most suitable mineral admixture for SCC under elevated curing temperature.

  • This study was performed to investigate the chemical composition, mineral status, oxidative stability, and texture attributes of dry-cured ham from pigs fed processed sulfur (S, 1 g/kg feed), and from those fed a basal diet (CON), during the period from weaning to slaughter (174 d). Total collagen content and soluble collagen of the S group was significantly higher than that of the control group (p<0.05). The pH of the S group was significantly higher than that of the control group, whereas the S group had a lower expressible drip compared to the control group. The S group also showed the lower lightness compared to the control group (p<0.05). In regard to the mineral status, the S group had significantly lower Fe2+ and Ca2+ content than the control group (p<0.05), whereas the proteolysis index of the S group was significantly increased compared to the control group (p<0.05). The feeding of processed sulfur to pigs led to increased oxidative stability, related to lipids and pigments, in the dry-cured ham (p<0.05). Compared to the dry-cured ham from the control group, that from the S group exhibited lower springiness and gumminess; these results suggest that feeding processed sulfur to pigs can improve the quality of the texture and enhance the oxidative stability of dry-cured ham.

  • The aim of this study was to achieve healing of Peri-implantitis defects and hard tissue augmentation using a bovine-derived bone mineral on the defect site. Two patients were treated with the surgical approach. With a full muco-periosteal flap elevation, the implant surfaces were exposed and granulation tissue removed around the implant and between the threads. Each surface of the contaminated implant was prepared with the air-abrasive device(PerioFlow$^{(R)}$) for decontamination. Bovine-derived bone mineral(Bio-Oss collagen$^{(R)}$) was then used to fill the defects and muco-periosteal flaps sutured to achieve transmucosal healing. Radiographs and clinical photographs were taken before and after 6 months of healing and an estimate of bone fill was assessed. Within the limits of the present case report, a surgical approach in treatment of peri-implantitis defects using a collagen form of bovine bone mineral was visited. Although limited, the two cases showed the stability and biocompatibility of a bovine-derived bone mineral and effectiveness of air-abrasive device(PerioFlow$^{(R)}$) as a decontamination method.
