This study presents the findings of the experiments that were conducted on single- and multi-stage solvent extractors using the stimulus-response method, with the am of identifying flow characteristics of the material inside the mixer-settler-type extractor. The results of this study show that the response characteristics of a single-stage mixer is the same as that of a completely stirred tank reactor (CSTR), and that the lag time of a mixer-settler-type extractor increases with the number of its extraction stages. The experimental data for the single- and multiple-stage extractors were analyzed using K-RTD, a response analysis program, to obtain a retention time distribution (RTD) model of one-stage and four-stage extractors. The correlation coefficient between the calculated values and the experimental data was 0.963 for the one-stage extractor and 0.995 for the four-stage extractor, showing quite a good correlation.
Tetramethylorthosilicate (TMOS) and silica nanopowder were synthesized from the waste silicon sludge containing 15% weight of silicon powder. TMOS, a precursor of silica nanopowder, was firstly prepared from the waste silicon sludge by catalytic chemical reaction. The maximum recovery of the TMOS was 100% after 5 hrs regardless of reaction temperature above $130^{\circ}C$. But the initial reaction rate became faster while the reaction temperature was higher than $150^{\circ}C$. As the methanol feedrate Increased from 0.8 ml/min to 1.4 ml/min, the yield of reaction was not varied after 3 hrs. Then, silica nanopowder was synthesized from the synthesized TMOS by flame spray pyrolysis. The morphology of as-prepared silica nanopowder was spherical and non-aggregated. The average particle diameters ranged from 9 nm to 30 nm and were in proportional to the precursor feed rate, and precursor concentration.

Leaching behavior of nickel contained in waste Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitor (MLCC) was investigated using a batch reactor. The effects of acid type, acid concentration, leaching temperature, particle size, and reaction time on the extraction of nickel metal from waste MLCC were examined. As a result, 97% of nickel contained in waste MLCC was leached out in 30 min at the temperature of $90^{\circ}C$ under the condition of $HNO_3$ concentration 1N, solid/liquid ratio 5 g/L and particle size $-300/+180{\mu}m$. It was also found that a Jander equation was useful to fit well the leaching rate data. The rate of nickel leaching is controlled by pore diffusion in $BaTiO_3$ layer and has an activation energy of 37.6 kJ/mol (9.0 kcal/mol).
Development of Rotation-Cylinder Method(RCM) is given for Mg-Al-Zn-X(X=Sr) alloys, identifying some of the key factors that need to be controlled and indicating subsequent casting processes. Effects of Sr addition on the microstructure and mechanical properties of as-cast and T6 heat-treated Mg-Al-Zn-X alloys fabricated by the RCM were investigated. The microstructural and mechanical characterizations were performed by utilizing optical microscope, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, hardness test and ultimate tensile test. The solution and aging treatment time was varied to optimize the T6 heat treatment conditions, and experimental results were discussed. The grain size of Sr containing alloys was refined by increasing Sr content, but the tensile and yield strengths were increased by addition up to 1wt% Sr.

Rockburst is a dynamic, multivariate, and non-linear phenomenon that occurs in underground mining and civil engineering structures. Predicting rockburst is challenging since conventional models are not standardized. Hence, machine learning techniques would improve the prediction accuracies. This study describes decision based uncertainty models to predict rockburst in underground engineering structures using gradient boosting algorithms (GBM). The model input variables were uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), uniaxial tensile strength (UTS), maximum tangential stress (MTS), excavation depth (D), stress ratio (SR), and brittleness coefficient (BC). Several models were trained using different combinations of the input variables and a 3-fold cross-validation resampling procedure. The hyperparameters comprising learning rate, number of boosting iterations, tree depth, and number of minimum observations were tuned to attain the optimum models. The performance of the models was tested using classification accuracy, Cohen's kappa coefficient (k), sensitivity and specificity. The best-performing model showed a classification accuracy, k, sensitivity and specificity values of 98%, 93%, 1.00 and 0.957 respectively by optimizing model ROC metrics. The most and least influential input variables were MTS and BC, respectively. The partial dependence plots revealed the relationship between the changes in the input variables and model predictions. The findings reveal that GBM can be used to anticipate rockburst and guide decisions about support requirements before mining development.
Aluminum dross should be recycled in consideration of characteristics of the dross and its reutilization after processing. In this study, aluminum dross generated in the domestic secondary aluminum industry was processed to use it as raw material for producing aluminum hydroxide. Sample dross was classified according to its size. The dross smaller than 1mm was leached with sodium hydroxide solution to extract the remaining aluminum from the dross into the solution, and then aluminum hydroxide precipitate was recovered from the leach liquor. Purity of the obtained aluminum hydroxide was above 98 percent, and particle size of the sample was in range of 3-39${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. From the result, it was suggested that this process could be applicable to recycling of aluminum dross.
Bauxite is a main raw material for the production of alumina and aluminum hydroxide in the processing plant of KC company. It is a NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials), and its waste, red mud, is a TENORM (Technologically Enhanced Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials). The purpose of the geochemical and mineralogical investigations of the bedrock and soils in and around the plant, a large NORM source, was to provide basic data for measuring the radiation dose and protecting from radioactive hazards. Soils were mixtures of minerals derived from the country rock (quartz, feldspar, mica, kaolin, gibbsite, and sepiolite) and bauxite (hematite, boehmite, and calcite) of open-air storage. Average U and Th contents of the soil samples were 4.7 ppm and 23 ppm, respectively, indicating somewhat Th anomaly. The average concentrations of radionuclides are $^{40}K$ 100~1,433 Bq/kg, $^{226}Ra$ anomaly in the red mud open-air storage. Soil external hazard indices range from 0.10 to 1.66 with an average of 0.63. Although most of the indices are below 1.0 that is a regulation value, those of 4 samples of total 41 soil samples exceed 1.0, requiring further detailed investigation.
Thorium extraction and possible separation from monazite leaching solution was studied. Primary amine Primene JM-T was select ed for t horium ext ract ion processing. Various experiment s were t est ed and est ablished for t he t horium liquid -liquid extraction process. The screening of extractant, lower pH conditions, extractant variation and extraction isotherms construction, and finally, stripping studies were established.

The grafting reaction for maleic anhydride (MA) onto high density polyethylene (HDPE) was investigated from solution process with initiators. The chemical modification of neat HDPE was carried out with various contents of MA (3-21 wt.%) and initiator (0.2-1 wt.%) at different temperature ($80-130^{\circ}C$). The grafting degree was obtained from the titration and the highest grafting degree was 3.1%. The grafting degree increased as the content of MA and initiator increased, however, the highest grafting degree was demonstrated for a particular content of MA and initiator. In the non-isothermal crystallization kinetics, the Ozawa model was unsuitable method to investigate the crystallization behavior of MA onto HDPE, whereas the Avrami and Liu models found effective. The crystallization rate was accelerated as the cooling rate increased, but postponed by combination of MA onto neat HDPE backbone.
