Pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia (PASH) was initially described by Vuitch et al. as a benign breast lesion, consisting of mammary stromal proliferations which simulate vascular lesions, and which might be mistaken for a low-grade angiosarcoma. This condition occasionally presents as a palpable mass in postmenopausal women, but is more frequently encountered as an incidental component in premenopausal women. Clinical, radiological, and fine-needle aspiration (FNA) findings associated with this condition can mimic those observed in conjunction with a phyllodes tumor or a fibroadenoma. The cytological features of PASH are generally nonspecific, and its diagnosis by FNA cytology is fairly difficult. In this study, we report a case on PASH, manifesting as a palpable mass.
The CALEB10 is a multi-legged biomimetic underwater robot. In the last research, we developed a swimming pattern named ESPG (Extended Swimming Pattern Generator) by observing diving beetle's swimming actions and experimented with a positive buoyancy state in which CALEB10 floats on the water. In this paper, however, we have experimented with CALEB10 in a neutral buoyancy state where it is completely immersed in water for pitch motion control experiment. And we found that CALEB10 was unstably swimming in the pitch direction in the neutral buoyancy state and analyzed that the reason was due to the weight proportion of the legs. In this paper, we propose a pitch motion control method to mimic the pitch motion of diving beetles and to solve the problem of CALEB10 unstably swimming in the pitch direction. To control the pitch motion, we use the method of controlling additional joints while swimming with the ESPG. The method of obtaining propulsive force by the motion of the leg has a problem of giving propulsive force in the reverse direction when swimming in the surge direction, but this new control method has an advantage that a propulsive moment generated by a swimming action only on a target pitch value. To demonstrate validity this new control method, we designed a dynamics-based simulator environment. And the control performance to the target pitch value was verified through simulation and underwater experiments.
Two-dimensional (2D) cell culture and in vivo cancer model systems have been used to understand cancer biology and develop drug delivery systems for cancer therapy. Although cell culture and in vivo model studies have provided critical contribution about disease mechanism, these models present important problems. 2D tissue culture models lack of three dimensional (3D) structure, while animal models are expensive, time consuming, and inadequate to reflect human tumor biology. Up to the present, scaffolds and 3D matrices have been used for many different clinical applications in regenerative medicine such as heart valves, corneal implants and artificial cartilage. While tissue engineering has focused on clinical applications in regenerative medicine, scaffolds can be used in in vitro tumor models to better understand tumor relapse and metastasis. Because 3D in vitro models can partially mimic the tumor microenvironment as follows. This review focuses on different scaffold production techniques and polymer types for tumor model applications in cancer tissue engineering and reports recent studies about in vitro 3D polymeric tumor models including breast, ewing sarcoma, pancreas, oral, prostate and brain cancers.
Starting with linear free energy relationships (LFER), drug design to mimic of the activated complexes at transition state, and hydrolysis mechanisms to control the potency and residual properties of pesticides were introduced and summarized for the necessity. In order to understand the searching or development of new agrochemicals by two dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (2D QSAR) methodology, a series of the various descriptors, steric constants, electronic constants including quantum pharmacological parameters and hydrophobic constants were classified and discussed for results of the several studied cases. In addition, the processes of development of new agrochemicals by QSAR techniques were introduced simply.

This paper summarises the results of a numerical study on the non linear response of steel concentric braced frames under monotonic and cyclic loads, using force-based finite elements with section fibre discretisation. The first part of the study is addressed to analyse the single brace response. A parametric analysis was carried out and discussed to evaluate the accuracy of the model, examining the influence of the initial camber, the material modelling, the type of force-based element, the number of integration points and the number of fibers. The second part of the paper is concerned with the modelling issues of whole braced structures. The effectiveness of the modelling approach is verified against the nonlinear static and dynamic behaviour of different type of bracing configurations. The model sensitivity to brace-to-brace interaction and the capability of the model to mimic the response of complex bracing systems is analyzed. The influence of different approaches for modelling the inertia, the equivalent viscous damping and the brace hysteretic response on the overall structural response are also investigated. Finally, on the basis of the performed numerical study general modelling recommendations are proposed.
A voice transformation (VT) method that can make the utterance of a source speaker mimic that of a target speaker is described. Speaker individuality transformation is achieved by altering three feature parameters, which include the LPC cepstrum, pitch period and gain. The main objective of this study involves construction of an optimal sequence of features selected from a target speaker's database, to maximize both the correlation probabilities between the transformed and the source features and the likelihood of the transformed features with respect to the target model. A set of two-pass conversion rules is proposed, where the feature parameters are first selected from a database then the optimal sequence of the feature parameters is then constructed in the second pass. The conversion rules were developed using a statistical approach that employed a maximum likelihood criterion. In constructing an optimal sequence of the features, a hidden Markov model (HMM) was employed to find the most likely combination of the features with respect to the target speaker's model. The effectiveness of the proposed transformation method was evaluated using objective tests and informal listening tests. We confirmed that the proposed method leads to perceptually more preferred results, compared with the conventional methods.
The induction of proliferation of adult rat islets was investigated under various culture conditions. The islets were isolated from male Sprague-Dawley rats and subsequently embedded in collagen gels, which mimic the in vivo three-dimensional surroundings. During the culture period, the effects of heterologous serum (fetal bovine serum, FBS), epidermal growth factor (EGF), and retinoic acid (RA) on islet growth were examined with respect to the morphological and total DNA content changes. To investigate these changes at the cellular level, whole mount immunocytochemistry using specific antibodies for insulin and glucagon was performed. The results showed that (i) collagen gels as an extracellular matrix can maintain islets in a similar way to that in vivo, (ii) heterologous serum (FBS) had stimulatory effects on islet proliferation in a dose-dependent manner, (iii) RA had inhibitory effects on islet proliferation induced by the serum in a dose-dependent manner, (iv) EGF had weak inhibitory effects on islet proliferation induced by the serum except at the concentration of 10 nM where its effect was not significant, and (v) whole mount immunocytochemistry revealed that newly proliferated islet cells were mainly $\beta$-and $\alpha$-cells.

Human Fen1 protein (hFen1) plays an important role in Okazaki fragment processing by cleaving the flap structure at the junction between single-stranded (ss) DNA and doublestranded (ds) DNA, an intermediate formed during Okazaki fragment processing, resulting in ligatable nicked dsDNA. It was reported that hChlR1, a member of the cohesion establishment factor family, stimulates hFen1 nuclease activity regardless of its ATPase activity. In this study, we found that cohesion establishment factors cooperatively stimulate endonuclease activity of hFen1 in in vivo mimic condition, including replication protein-A-coated DNA and high salt. Our findings are helpful to explain how a DNA replication machinery larger than the cohesion complex goes through the cohesin ring structure on DNA during S phase in the cell cycle.
A fishing simulator for towed fishing gear was investigated in order to mimic the fish behavior in capture process and investigate fishing selectivity. A fish behavior model using a psycho-hydraulic wheel activated by stimuli is established to introduce Lorenz chaos equations and a neural network system and to generate the components of realistic fish capture processes. The fish positions within the specified gear geometry are calculated from normalized intensities of the stimuli of the fishing gear components or neighboring fish and then these are related to the sensitivities and the abilities of the fish. This study is applied to four different towed gears i.e. a bottom trawl, a midwater trawl, a two-boat seine, and an anchovy boat seine and for 17 fish species as mainly caught. The Alpha cluster computer system and Fortran MPI (Message-Passing Interface) parallel programming were used for rapid calculation and mass data processing in this chaotic behavior model. The results of the simulation can be represented as animation of fish movements in relation to fishing gear using Open-GL and C graphic programming and catch data as well as selectivity analysis. The results of this simulator mimicked closely the field studies of the same gears and can therefore be used in further study of fishing gear design, predicting selectivity and indoor training systems.
We attempted to analyze the mechanism of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB)-induced neurotoxicity and identify the target molecules in the neuronal cells for PCBs.Since the developing neuron is particularly sensitive to PCB-induced neurotoxicity, we isolated cerebellar granule cells derived from 7-day old Sprague Dawley (SD) rats and grew cells in culture for additional 7 days to mimic PND-14 conditions. Only non-coplanar PCBs at a high dose showed a significant increase of total protein kinase C (PKC) activity at phobol 12,13-dibutyrate ([$^3M$]PDBu) binding assay, indicating that non-coplanar PCBs are more neuroactive than coplanar PCBs in neuronal cells. PKC isozymes were immunoblotted with the selected monoclonal antibodies. PKC-${\alpha}$, ${\delta}$, and ε were activated with non-coplanar PCB exposure. Receptor for activated C kinase-1 (RACK-1), anchoring protein for activated PKC, was more induced with exposure to coplanar PCBs than non-coplanar PCBs. Reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR) analysis showed induction of neurogranin (RC-3) and growth associated protein-43 (GAP-43) mRNA with non-coplanar PCBs. The results indicate that these factors may be useful biomarkers for differentiating non-coplanar PCBs from coplanar PCBs. The present study demonstrated that non-coplanar PCBs are more neuroactive congeners than coplanar PCBs.
