  • This paper introduce a millimeter-wave radar system. As Fig 1 shows, This system consists of millimeter-wave radar front-end and digital signal processing parts through receive waves regarding up-coming obstacles. The system works as follow process; (1) Generate regular tripodal waves using the FMCW pulse generator (2) Transmit/Receive waves regarding up-coming obstacles (3) Analog filtering (4) FIFO memory interface (5) FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) (6) Calculation of distance / speed between cars (7) Object display and calibration. We have progress to solve the problem like as increase of traffic accidents causing damage and injuries due to the increased number of motor vehicles and long distance driving, and Need for a device to help drivers who are in trouble due to bad weather conditions. We are expect to Take the lead as a core technology in the ITS industry and to develop circuit and signal processing technologies related to millimeter-wave bandwidth.

  • In this paper, we have experimentally studied on phase characteristics of airborne radome for ELINT directional finding system, because it is difficult to find theoretical solutions for phase error of the radome. Especially, we described the millimeter wave band radome that was fabricated with cyanate-ester material and its thickness was 2mm. We presented the phase error about millimeter band radome. That phase error is about 30 degrees for parallel and perpendicular polarization in the K-Ka band. That is reasonable value for the ELINT directional finding system.

  • In this paper, we have fabricated the Schottky diode for THz applications by heterogeneous resist patterning method. The Schottky diode was developed using electron beam lithography and photolithography to connect the anode and the anode pad for a simple process. The measured performance of developed Schottky diode are $11.2{\Omega}$ of series resistance, 25.96 fF of junction capacitance, 1.25 of ideality factor and 547.6 GHz of cut-off frequency.

  • In this paper, we have performed a study that modifies the CPW Pad configurations to improve an $f_{max}$ characteristic of metamorphic HEMT. To analyze the CPW Pad structures of MHEMT, we use the ADS momentum simulator developed by $Agilent^{TM}$. Comparing the employed structure (G/W = 40/100 m), the optimized structure (G/W = 20/25 m) of CPW MHEMT shows the increased $S_{21}$ by 2.5 dB, which is one of the dominant parameters influencing the $f_{max}$ of MHEMT. To compare the performances of optimized MHEMT with the employed MHEMT, DC and RF characteristics of the fabricated MHEMT were measured. In the case of optimized CPW MHEMT, the measured saturated drain current density and transconductance $(g_m)$ were 693 mA/mm and 647 mS/mm, respectively. RF measurements were performed in a frequency range of $0.1{\sim}110$ GHz. A high $S_{21}$ gain of 5.5 dB is shown at a millimeter-wave frequency of 110 GHz. Two kinds of RF gains, $h_{21}$ and maximum available gain (MAG), versus the frequency, and a cut-off frequency ($f_t$) of ${\sim}154$ GHz and a maximum frequency of oscillation ($f_{max}$) of ${\sim}358$ GHz are obtained, respectively, from the extrapolation of the RF gains for a device biased at a peak transconductance. An optimized CPW MHEMT structure is one of the first reports among fabricated 0.1 m gate length MHEMTs.

  • We have developed a passive millimeter wave (PMMW) imaging system with two-dimensional imaging arrays. For the imaging system we achieved single-substrate imaging-array element which include all necessary component such as Fermi tapered slot antenna (TSA), a balun, LNA's and a detector circuit on it. Two-dimensional arrays for real-time imaging at the 35 GHz band are currently under development. We will be able to make an advanced PMMW image system based on our system with the $2\times2$ imaging array in the near future.

  • Recently, small radar require the development of small millimeter wave radar with high distance resolution to disable the target's system with a single strike. Small millimeter wave radar with high distance resolution need to process large amounts of data in real time to acquire and track target. In this paper, we summarized the real-time data preprocessing method to process the large amount of data required for small millimeter wave radar. In addition, the digital IF(Intermediate Frequency) receiver, Window processing, and, DFT(Discrete Fourier Transform) functions presented by real-time data preprocessing are implemented using FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array). Finally the implemented real-time data preprocessing module was applied to the signal processor for small millimeter wave radar and verified by performance test related to the real-time preprocessing function.

  • In this paper, we designed and tested of the passive millimeter-wave imaging system in near range. The proposed passive millimeter-wave imaging system consists two parts. The first part is a 94 GHz band millimeter imaging sensor which is coupled to an antenna, two LNAs, and a diode detector. The second part is a control unit. The control unit is consists of the 2-axes Cartesian robot, the data acquisition (DAQ), and imaging program. The 2-axes Cartesian robot should be able to scan a 2-D image of the metalic tools, IC card and plastic objects, with a raster scanning method. The passive millimeter-wave image of $20{\times}20$ pixels is acquired within less than 60s, and is immediately displayed and stored for post processing. In order to improve the image quality, interpolation methods are applied.

  • We have designed the waveguide to microstrip transition using a probe structure for the center frequency of 200 GHz transceiver. The waveguide to microstrip transition is composed of probe, taper and microstrip transmission line. For design of the transition, we simulated the lengths and width of the probe and the taper to optimize the center frequency and the bandwidth using HFSS simulation tool from Ansoft. The transition is designed back-to-back structure. From the simulation results, the transition exhibits that insertion loss is below - 0.81 dB and the return loss less than -10 dB in range of 186 ~ 210 GHz.
