  • Proposed in the paper is an agent based and object-oriented methodology to create a virtual logistics support system model. The proposed virtual logistics support system model consists of three types of objects: the logistics force agent model(static model), the military supplies transport manager model(function model), the military supplies state manager model(dynamic model). A logistic force agent model consists of two agent: main function agent and function agent. To improve the reusability and composability of a logistics force agent model, the function agent is designed to adapt to different logistics force agent configuration. A military supplies transport manager is agent that get information about supply route, make decisions based on decision variables, which are maintained by the military supplies state manager, and transport military supplies. A military supplies state manager is requested military supplies from logistics force agent, provide decision variables such as the capacity, order of priority. For the implementation of the proposed virtual logistics force agent model, this paper employs Discrete Event Systems Specification(DEVS) formalism.

  • In Korea military (KM), various military supplies are distributed to individual military units via three different multi-tier supply networks owned and operated by army, navy, and air force, respectively. Under the current supply networks, the chances for the occurrence of delayed supply, undersupply, and oversupply increase, and supply redundancy also can become a problem. Thus, KM is now trying to improve its current multi-tier supply networks by constructing logistics consolidation centers. Private companies operate logistics consolidation centers to effectively manage various types of inventories before delivering them to final customers. In this paper, we newly propose a mathematical model for building the optimized military supply network considering adopting the military logistics consolidation centers. Based on the real situation of KM, the proposed model was validated in terms of its feasibility, and it seems that the outcome (the location of the military logistics consolidation centers) of the proposed model can be one of the good alternatives for KM.

  • In modern marketing environment, we are more interested in logistics as industrial structure is complicated and globalized. Most companies focus on reducing the cost price. So a lot of companies study on cost estimation logistics. However, it Is very difficult to estimate the cost of logistics. Thus they mainly use linear method such as the simple distance of transportation. This study defines the cost of logistics, structure & network of military logistics and proposes the costing estimation model in the logistics. We apply to battle shoes which are the main clothing in the military. In the result, we found some differences on the rate of cost structure between military and civil companies. This study can be used directly to the decision making for optimal military logistics alternatives and contribute to the efficient operation of military budget.

  • This study endeavors to propose factors that should be intensively managed by using an IPA model to analyze the strengths of military logistics. Based on the improvement measures, we constructed a questionnaire with 5 points of Likert scale and analyzed the importance and satisfaction through SPSS 23. Examination of several evaluation factors revealed 'expansion of and modernization storage facilities' as the most important factor, 'merger and abolition of regional logistics work' (3.56) had the highest satisfaction level. Factors involving the expansion and modernization of the storage facilities showed the largest difference between importance level and satisfaction level, at 2.01. This indicates the necessity for an overall review of the expansion and modernization of storage facilities related to military logistics. This study aims to identify the areas that should be improved firstly in military logistics and concentrate on management to create more effective results. Thus it suggests that this study has a concentration on management for the streamlining of military logistics.

  • Sense and Respond Logistics(SARL) is a transformational, network-centric, knowledge-driven concept that enables joint effects-based operations and provides precise, agile support. Sense and respond logistics relies upon highly adaptive, self-synchronizing, and dynamic physical and functional processes. It predicts, anticipates, and coordinates actions that provide competitive advantage across the full range of military operations. In this research paper, we considered the essential prerequisite to introduce the appropriate SARL concept for the future warfare environment into the military logistics support system and also provide the conceptual alternatives to actualize the introduction of SARL.

  • In this research, usability testing techniques had been applied to currently operating Military Logistics System software, and the effects of improvements made were verified. Furthermore, this research aims to assist the army to execute their researches on usability testing in the future. Various usability testing techniques and guidelines presented in this paper will be easily adapted to the research environment of the army. Consequently, the results of this research would play an important role in future development and evaluation of the Military Logistics System software.

  • Many researcher working in logistics tried to define concept of the logistics and its arena to study. However, there has not been much improvement. Thus, it caused the delay in the progress of the logistics study. Most of the earlier definition of the logistics mainly considered from the point of Physical Distribution Management and Business Logistics. I proposed a new definition of the logistics and the area to research which reflecting the total of whole system and the functional areas of the logistics.

  • Even though the Korean military continued to develop military logistics support systems, sufficient research on logistics service has not been conducted. The main purpose of the research is to examine employees' job satisfaction of logistics units by logistics functions (the ordnance, the supply, the food), and further the relationship between the job satisfaction of logistics units and service quality of the user(combat) units. Some results are as follows. First, the job satisfaction among logistics units was significantly different by functions. Second, the tangible among service quality factors of user units was been significantly different among functional units. Finally, through the post hoc analyses, some meaningful results on service quality were also identified.

  • The object of this study is to suggest the direction of building the defence logistics system of Korea Armed Forces in the future. For the purpose of this, we surveyed the best practices among the enterprises and U.S. Defence which reformed successfully the physical distribution and logistic in recent year. Also, we analyzed our current logistics system and suggested the vision, operational concept, and the way of building this system. This system is expected to reduce the total logistics cost, speed up the logistics velocity and increase the efficiency of the combat support.
