The Global Positioning System (GPS) was developed for military purposes and developed as it is today by opening civilian signals (GPS L1 frequency C/A signals). The current satellite orbits the earth about twice a day to measure the position, and receives more than 3 satellite signals (initially, 4 to calculate even the time error). The three-dimensional position of the ground receiver is determined using the data from the radio wave departure time to the radio wave Time of Arrival(TOA) of the received satellite signal through trilateration. In the case of navigation using GPS in recent years, a location error of 5 to 10 m usually occurs, and quite a lot of areas, such as apartments, indoors, tunnels, factory areas, and mountainous areas, exist as blind spots or neutralized areas outside the error range of GPS. Therefore, in order to acquire one's own location information in an area where GPS satellite signal reception is impossible, another method should be proposed. In this study, IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit) combined with an acceleration and gyro sensor and a geomagnetic sensor were used to design a system to enable location recognition even in terrain where GPS signal reception is impossible. A method to track the current position by calculating the instantaneous velocity value using a 9-DOF IMU and a geomagnetic sensor was studied, and its feasibility was verified through production and experimentation.
Satellite communication is not used by many people like mobile communication, but it is a necessary technology for public service and communication services, such as providing the Internet in military, disaster, remote education and medical services, island areas, and infrastructure vulnerable areas. However, on ships and aircraft, mobile communications requiring base stations are either unavailable or restricted in their use. In this paper, we used a Raspberry Pi board as the terminal device to communicate network through satellite modem and PPP protocol, and implemented two-way data link using the text message of the modem to connect to the Thuraya geo-stationary orbit network. In addition, I/O devices were connected to the controller of the terminal equipment to design and implement an IoT device system for ships that can remotely access the system under control and control I/Os and transmit measured data through various sensors.

The size of raw data has dramatically increased due to the recent trend of Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) development plans for high resolution and high definition image acquisition. The large raw data has an impact on satellite operability due to the limitations of storage and transmission capacity. To improve the SAR operability, the SAR raw data shall be compressed before transmission to the ground station. The Block Adaptive Quantization (BAQ) algorithm is one of the data compression algorithm and has been used for a long time in the spaceborne SAR system. In this paper, an optimization method of BAQ threshold table is introduced using real SAR raw data to prevent the degradation of signal quality caused by data compression. In this manner, a new variation estimation strategy and a new threshold method for block type decision are introduced.

During the sea trial, we discovered EMI between MOSCOS and ES DF antenna. CW emitted by MOSCOS raised the threshold level of ES DF antenna. As a result, direction finding rate of ES has been decreased. This is a study for the improvement of EMI between the antennas mounted on a surface ship. An analysis is accomplished for MOSCOS, ES DF antenna and Jamming transmitter. This paper presents the method how to solve EMI based on the measurements and calculations about the ES DF antenna receiving level, MOSCOS radiation pattern and Jamming transmitter thermal noise. The test was performed with optimal deployment of MOSCOS on a surface ship. After changing the position of MOSCOS, EMI has been decreased significantly.
The Sputnik 1 launching in 1957 made the world recognize the necessity of international regulations on space development and activities in outer space. The United Nations established COPUOS the very next year, and adopted the mandate to examine legal issues concerning the peaceful uses of outer space. At the time, the military sector of the U.S.A. and the Soviet Union were in charge of the space development and they were not welcomed to discuss the prohibition of the military uses of outer space at the legal section in the COPUOS. Although both countries had common interests in securing the freedom of military uses in outer space. As the social and economic benefits derived from space activities have become more apparent, civil expenditures on space activities have continued to increase in several countries. Virtually all new spacefaring states explicitly place a priority on space-based applications to support social and economic development. Such space applications as satellite navigation and Earth imaging are core elements of almost every existing civil space program. Likewise, Moon exploration continues to be a priority for such established spacefaring states as China, Russia, India, and Japan. Recently, Companies that manufacture satellites and ground equipment have also seen significant growth. On 25 February 2012 China successfully launched the eleventh satellite for its indigenous global navigation and positioning satellite system, Beidou. Civil space activities began to grow in China when they were allocated to the China Great Wall Industry Corporation in 1986. China Aerospace Corporation was established in 1993, followed by the development of the China National Space Administration. In Japan civil space was initially coordinated by the National Space Activities Council formed in 1960. Most of the work was performed by the Institute of Space and Aeronautical Science of the University of Tokyo, the National Aerospace Laboratory, and, most importantly, the National Space Development Agency. In 2003 all this work was assumed by the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency(JAXA). Japan eases restrictions on military space development. On 20 June 2012 Japan passed the Partial Revision of the Cabinet Establishment Act, which restructured the authority to regulate Japanese space policy and budget, including the governance of the JAXA. Under this legislation, the Space Activities Commission of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology, which was responsible for the development of Japanese space program, will be abolished. Regulation of space policy and budget will be handed over to the Space Strategy Headquarter formed under the Prime Minister's Cabinet. Space Strategy will be supported by a Consultative Policy Commission as an academics and independent observers. By revoking Article 4 (Objectives of the Agency) of a law that previously governed JAXA and mandated the development of space programs for "peaceful purposes only," the new legislation demonstrates consistency with Article 2 of the 2008 Basic Space Law. In conformity with the principles laid down in the 1967 Outer Space Treaty JAXA is now free to pursue the non-aggressive military use of space. New legislation is the culmination of a decade-long process that sought ways to "leverage Japan's space development programs and technologies for security purposes, to bolster the nation's defenses in the face of increased tensions in East Asia." In this connection it would also be very important and necessary to create an Asian Space Agency(ASA) for strengthening cooperation within the Asian space community towards joint undertakings.

A synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system is able to provide all-weather, day-and-night, high resolution imaging capability in the wide area of interest, and thus is extremely useful in surveillance for both civil and military applications. In this paper, the X-band high-resolution spaceborne SAR system design is described with the key design parameters for the mission and system requirement characterized by the small satellite platform. The SAR imaging mode design technique is presented, and the standard imaging mode design results are analyzed with respect to image quality performance. In line with the system requirement, X-band SAR payload and ground reception/processing subsystems are designed and the key design results are demonstrated with the outstanding performance characteristics. The designed small satellite SAR system shows the wide range of imaging capability, and proves to be an effective surveillance systems in the light weight, high performance and cost-effective points of view.

The GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System) provides important information such as Position and Navigation, Timing(PNT) to various weapon systems in the military. as a result, applications that employ satellite navigation systems are increasing. therefore, a number of studies have been conducted to deceive the weapon systems that employ GNSS. GNSS spoofing denotes the transmission of counterfeit GNSS-like signals with the intention to produce a false position and time within the victim receiver. In order to deceive the victim receiver, spoofing signal should be synchronized with GNSS signal in doppler frequency and code phase, etc. In this paper, Civilian GPS L1 C/A spoofing signals have been evaluated and analyzed by SDR receiver.
The design requirements of modern satellites vary depending on the purpose of operation. Like conventional medium and large-scale satellites, small satellites which operate on low orbit may also serve military purposes. As a result, there is increased demand for high-resolution photos and videos and multi-target observation becomes important. The most important design parameter for multi-target observation is the satellites' maneuverability. For increased maneuverability, the miniaturization is required to increase the stiffness of the satellite as this decreases the mass moment of inertia of the satellite. In the case of a solar panel having relatively low stiffness compared to the satellites' body, vibrations are generated when the attitude maneuver is performed, which greatly influences the image acquisition. For verification of such vibrational characteristics, the satellites is modeled as a reduced model, and experimental zig for simulating attitude maneuver is introduced. A rigidity simulator for simulating the stiffness of the satellite is also proposed. Additionally, the objective of the experimental method is to simulate the maneuvering angle of the satellite based on the winding length of the wire using a step motor, and to experimentally verify the vibration characteristics of the satellite body and the solar panel generated during the maneuvering test.
Nowadays, Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS) which is the new concept of positioning system has been developed because of satisfaction human's intelligent desire and rapid science development. GNSS which is represented by GPS provides 3-Dimension positioning information not expensively in whenever, wherever. The industry of positioning information has extending civil market widely as well as military market. So GNSS is running the role of society infra structure including car and airborne navigation, civil engineering, GIS resource, telematics and LBS, and so on. As USA removes the SA(Selective Availability), GPS has monopolizing the market and other countries have been depended on GPS, absolutely. In this paper, the author developed the software for analysis of influence using next generation, Galileo system. The local analysis was performed according to positioning mode. And GPS/Galileo combined system can implement positioning in the worst mask environment like urban cannon.
Change detection using aerial and satellite images is one of the important research topics in photogrammetry and image interpretation. It is of particular importance especially in the fields of military, political and administrative affairs. When there is a need to detect changes in multi-temporal images, the most efficient methods for change detection and thresholds of change/no change area need to be chosen. Also, the images obtained from the various methods need to be analyzed. To do so, we need a system that can support our decision making process. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the Decision Support System for Change Detection. This system is composed of Data Base, Model Base and Graphic User Interface(GUI). Data base is a compilation of previous change detection results, and Model Base comprise of numerous operations. The data can be input and have the results of change detection analyzed by using GUI. In this paper, we will explain the entire operation of the system and demonstrate the level of its effectiveness.
