Methods: The data of "Health and lifestyle Survey (2019)" conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute were analyzed after receiving approval though the website. A total of 5,311 middle and high school students were included in the analysis. Descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis were executed using SAS 9.4. Results: The mean score of subjective feeling of happiness was 6.92±0.56 out of 10. From the univariate analysis, the more positive the perception of the physical school environment was, such as classrooms, restrooms, exercise facilities, catering facilities, health facilities, other school facilities and school uniform, the higher the subjective feeling of happiness was (p for all <.001). In addition, the psychosocial environment of the school was significantly related to the happiness of adolescents (p<.001). After controlling for gender, school level, school grade, socio-economic status, and stress, positive perception of classrooms (B=0.04, p<.001), catering facilities (B=0.01, p=.021), health facilities (B=0.08, p<.001), and the psychosocial environment of the school (B=0.18, p<.001) was significantly associated with happiness of the students. Conclusion: Positive perception of the school environment was found to increase happiness in adolescents. Therefore, efforts should be made to make classrooms, catering facilities, and health facilities a pleasant space as well as to create a school atmosphere that values health.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of family violence, peer\`s deviant behavior, school environment, and accessibility of violence through a mass media, mediated by school violence, on adolescents 'psychological & behavioral maladjustment. The present study was the primary research of developing program for adolescents'psychological & behavioral adaptation to school violence. On the basis of previous literature, the theoretical model was specified, estimated, and evaluated for adequacy of statistical fat. Subjects of this study consisted of 974 adolescents drawn from middle and high schools in Cheong-ju. The model was supported by the data. Family violence, peer's deviant behavior, school environment, and accessibility of violence through a mass media explained directly the variance of school violence and adolescents'psychological & behavioral maladjustment. The results shows that adolescents'psychological & behavioral maladjustment can be viewed as products of the interaction with environmental factors and school violence. Accessibility of violence through a mass media was strongly related to school violence. Also, school violence was the strongest risk factor in relation to adolescents'behavioral maladjustment while school environment to adolescents'psychological maladjustment. Therefore, prevention program for school violence should consider the psychological & behavioral components within the environmental context.

  • Objectives : Cotinine, the major metabolite of nicotine, is a useful marker of exposure to tobacco smoke and self-reporting of smoking status is thought not to be reliable. This study aimed to evaluate the agreement between the smoking self-report among adolescents and the urinary cotinine test. Methods : The study subjects were 1226 middle and high school students in Hanam city, who were selected by stratified random sampling. The self-report about smoking behavior was compared with urine cotinine value measured with PBM $AccuSign^{\circledR}fi$ Nicotine(Princeton BioMeditech Corporation, USA). The percentage agreement, kappa and 95% confidence interval(CI) were calculated. Results : The overall percentage agreement was 88.6%, and those for boys, girls, middle school, general school and vocational school students were 87.3%, 90.1%, 93.7%, 85,5%, 90.7%, and 78.4%, respectively. The overall kappa index was 0.46(95% CI=0.39-0.54)for overall, .and those for boys, girls, middle school, general school and vocational school students were 0.56(95% CI=0.48-0.65), 0.20(95% CI=0.07-0.32), 0.21(95% CI=0.09-0.34), 0.55(95% CI=0.47-0.64), 0.42(95% CI=0.33-0.52), and 0.48(95% CI=0.36-0.60), respectively. Conclusion : The percentage agreement was relatively high but the kappa values very low for girls, and middle school students. Though the prevalence bias can be influenced by these results, the self-report was not a sufficient tool for the evaluation of adolescents' smoking status, especially in girls or middle school students.

Social support factors existing in an adolescent's external environment include the support of parents, peers, and teachers. And life satisfaction as a psychological characteristic was concerned with the adolescent's sense of self, school life, home environment, and family relations. Data were analyzed by using the t-test, Pearson's correlation and regression. Major findings were as follows: (1) There were significant differences in parent and teacher support, satisfaction with school life, home environment, and family relations between early adolescents and mid adolescents. (2) Parental, peer, and teacher support, contentment with oneself, school life, home environment, and family relations were negatively related to the fifth-grade early adolescent's loneliness. In particular, peer attachment was used as a mediator to determine the effects of self-efficacy. 302 multicultural family adolescents who enrolled in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do middle schools were surveyed. In order to measure the variables, this study used such scales as parenting attitude scale, family function scale, peer attachment scale and self efficacy scale. The results were analyzed by the PASW 18.0 program. The findings of the study led to the following conclusions; First, it has shown that peer attachment was the only variable that had significant differences by sex in middle school students of multicultural families. Second, the most influential variables of self-efficacy of middle school students in multicultural families was peer attachment among parenting attitude, family function and peer attachment. Third, there was a mediating effect of peer attachment among parenting attitude, family function and self-efficacy for adolescents of multicultural families. The notable distinction of this study was to find that peer attachment variable is the most important factor of self-efficacy. • Purpose: This study was to investigate the factors influencing problem behaviors among adolescents. Method: The subjects for this study were 596 students in middle school in Seoul. The data was collected during the period from May to November; 2001 by use of questionnaires. The instruments used were the Child Problem Behavior list by Hong (1986), the Body Cathexis Scale by Secord and Jourard(l953), and the Beck Depression Inventory by Beck(l978). The data was analyzed by using the SPSS- Win program. Result: Problem behaviors showed a significant negative correlation, with body image (r=-.310. p=.000) and positive correlation with depression (r=.674, p=.000). There were significant differences in the problem behavior scores of subjects according to sex, family status, economic status, and school scores. Female students were found to have a high degree of internalized problem behaviors. In addition, depression, body image, and sex were significant predictors to explain problem behaviors(47.3%). Depression, sex, grade, and school scores were significant predictors to explain externalized problem behaviors(21.9%) and depression and body image, internalized problem behaviors(51.4%). Conclusion: Since predicting factors of problem behaviors among middle school students by problem behavior type and sex were different, then practitioners should consider these differences when developing programs for them.
