  • Ferrite tile absorber is of great concern for the application to anechoic chambers due to the growing demand of EMI or EMC measurements. This paper investigates the magnetic, dielectric and microwave absorbing properties of a Ni-An ferrite for the purpose. A design chart was constructed with the solutions of impedance-matching equation in the radio frequencies (30 MHz - 1 GHz). The material parameters for zero-reflection are predicted from the chart. The magnetic and dielectric properties of sintered Ni-Zn ferrite is found to be well suited for this requirements. A superior microwave absorbing properties (frequency band and absorber thickness) of the samples are demonstrated.

  • In this study, three kinds of Mn-Zn ferrite/Ni-Zn ferrite/$Ni_2Y$ ferroxplana prepared by the coprecipitation method were compounded with the silicon rubber, and the ring-shaped specimens with various compositional ratio were made. The material constant of ferrite/rubber composite absorbers was obtained by the 2-port method. The material constants of the ferrite/rubber composite microwave absorber made of three kinds of ferrite with various compositional ratio were utilized in design the matching conditions (frequency and thickness) on the impedance matching map. We were able to predict the matching condition from the matching map. On all three kinds of ferrite/rubber composite microwave absorber with less than compositional ratio 60[wt.%] of ferroxplana, we have found that the reflection losses were over than 20[dB] at the S-Band $(2\sim4[GHz])$ and C-Band$(4\sim8[GHz])$.

  • Carbon-ferrite microwave absorbers were designed experimentally and fabricated trialy, as a result of which the relative frequency bandwith of 7.3 to 8.2% were obtained under the tolerance limits of the reflection coefficients lower than -20 dB, and the matching thickness becomes 1.4 to 1.6mm, which is significantly thinner than that of the conventional ones. Furthermore, attenuation has been founded by measuring the material constants of the microwave absorbers for microwave oven and the results are compared and discussed.

  • Microwave absorbing properties of ferrite-epoxy composite (absorbing layer) attached on the carbon fiber polymer composite (reflective substrate) are analyzed on the basis of wave propagation theory. A modified equation for wave-impedance-matching at the front surface of absorbing layer including the effect of electrical properties of the quasi-conducting substrate is proposed. Based on this analysis, the frequency and layer dimension that produce zero-reflection can be estimated from the intrinsic material properties of the obsorbing layer and the substrate. It is demonstrated that the microwave reflectivity of carbon fiber composite has a strong influence on the microwave absorbance of front magnetic layer.

  • The influence of excess iron content (x) and reaction atmosphere on permittivity, permeability and microwave absorbing properties has been investigated in composite specimens embeded with (Ni0.4Zn0.6O)1-x(Fe2O3)1+x powders. A nitrogen atmosphere used for the reaction of the ferrite with excess iron composition (x>0) enhances spinel formation, and thereby increases both the magnetic and the dielectric loss of the ferrite composite. We also investigated the relation between the electromagnetic constants and the absorbing properites using impedance-matching solution maps for zero reflection. It is suggested that a superior microwave absorber can be fabricated through atmosphere and excess iron control during the powder process.

  • The sintering behavior and microwave properties of ferrite ($Ba_3Co_{2-2x}Zn_{2x}Fe_{24}O_{41}$ ceramics) were investigated for microwave applications. Also PIFA type antenna with ferrite was simulated. All samples were prepared by the solid state reaction method and sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$. All ceramics had relatively density above of 92% compare with theoretical density of $Ba_3Co_2Fe_{24}O_{41}$ ceramics. From the XRD pattens, the Z-type phase was existed as main phase in $Ba_3Co_{2-2x}Zn_{2x}Fe_{24}O_{41}$ ceramics. The permittivity and permeability of $Ba_3Co_{2-2x}Zn_{2x}Fe_{24}O_{41}$ ceramics were increased with Zn additions and decreased rapidly over frequency of 200~600 MHz. Several PIFA type antennas with ferrite and FR4 were simulated. All antenna structure had return loss of less than -10 dB at each resonant frequency. Simulated antenna using both ferrite and FR4 showed size reduction of 25% without a significant decrement of efficiency.

  • The effect of heat-treatment temperature on the microwave absorbing properties was investigated in Ni0.8Zn0.2Fe2O4 specimens. The composite specimens were prepared by modling and curing the mixture of prereacted ferrite powder and silicone rubber. The measurement of complex permeability and permittivity was made by the reflection/transmission method. The most sensitive material constants with heat-treatment temperature is the imaginary (loss) component of permeability. The higher the heat-treatment temperature, the greater the magnetic loss. The composite specimens with high magnetic loss exhibited superior microwave absorbing properties. The quantitative estimation of microwave absorbing properties were made by plotting the observed material constants on the calculated solution map of impedance-matching.
