  • A plasma source with cylindrical microwave cavity was used as atomic emission detector for gas chromatography. Detection limits of several elements were determined for this system. Detection limits for bromine and sulfur were 0.46 pg/s and 0.51 ng/s, respectively. The plasma was stable at the range of flow rate of 10 to 20mL/min.

  • The damage from the underground termite cannot be discovered with peculiar appearance of building but hollow phenomenon will occur. But there is no case in Korea as a non-destructive measurement of termite activation. Therefore, this research constructs non-destructive diagnostic techniques for wooden cultural properties using microwave detector (Termatrac, Australia). Result of maximun distance were measured 16cm (Pine tree, sensitivity 5, 6), 17cm (Zelkova and Douglas fir, sensitivity 5, 6). These results are expected that can be applied in the field. Result of field test using microwave detector, 33.8% of the wooden cultural properties were damaged by termites, and until now 7.8% (18 buildings) are being damaged in nationwide (total 231 buildings). Based on the above results, microwave detector will be able to be utilized effectively for detecting termite, preventing intrusion in wooden structure, and making full use of monitoring system periodically. In addition, it could be of great worth in preventing insect and microorganism in wooden structure.

  • The microwave sensor in which the sensitivity was excellent and a structure is simple was developed and it manufactured. And the sensing range that uses the developed product was confirmed. When the developed microwave sensor was set up in the ceiling of a building, we confirmed that the amplitude of the sensitive area increased as the tilting angle was enlarged. The sensitive area became a greatest in case the tilting angle was 65 degree. According to the height of a ceiling, because the sensing range is determined, in case of using in the building in which the height of a ceiling is enough secured it is determined to secure the more wide sensitive area. Moreover, the configuration of the circuit having the simple structure makes the miniaturization of a product, and the light weight possible. It is considered to have the price competitive power which it reduces the manufacturing cost, is sufficient.

  • This paper presents a tumor detection system for breast cancer that utilizes two-dimensional (2D) image reconstruction with microwave tomographic imaging. The breast cancer detection system under development consists of 16 transmit/receive antennas, and the microwave tomography system operates at 900 MHz. To solve a 2D inverse scattering problem, the method of moments (MoM) is employed for forward problem solving, and the simplex method employed as an optimization algorithm. The results of the reconstructed image show that the method accurately shows the position of a breast tumor.

  • In this paper, we propose a design of microwave motion detector using X-band doppler radar sensor to minimize the power consumption. To minimize the power consumption and implement battery operated system, pulse input with 2 KHz, 4% duty cycle is exerted on the doppler radar sensor. In order to simplify the process of working with ATmega2560 microcontroller unit, Arduino compatible board is designed and implemented. Arduino is open source hardware and many library software is published as open source tools. Smartphone app is also proposed and designed as a real-time user interface of the motion detector. The SQLite database on the Android mobile operating system is used for recording raw data of motion detection for post-processing job, such as fast Fourier transform (FFT). Bluetooth interface module is implemented on the motion detection board as a wireless communication interface to the smartphone. The speed of human movement is identified by post-processing FFT.

  • An automatic point traffic control method is recommended for more idealistic traffic flow over coarse road netowrks. The automatic control apparatus recommended, consists of a transceiver, amplifier, digital-to-analog converter, signal light controller for emergency and steady state, and digital counter as monitor. The transmitter sends a signal to the target vy means of Microwave-FM-CW and a diode detector picks up the echo signal. Thus the operation of the entire system will be carried out through an open loop state. Some factors necessary for an ideal detector system are rapid response, longevity and stability. An analytical method of the Doppler effect substitutes the conventional frequency deviation into the amplitude of detector output. The changing rate of amplitude is proportional to the voltage of the detector output. Some induced formula from Maxwell's radiation field theory ensures this new method, and, new method, and proves the fact with an experimental data presentation. Stability depends upon Klystron as an oscillator and a diode as a detector. the transceiver installation affects on the response and sensitivity of the system. In accordance with the detector output, several targets are easily classified by amplitudes on the scope. The traffic flow, i.e., target movement which is analyzed by the amplitude method, is shown through the scope and indicates it on the digital counter. The best efficiency for the amplitude analysis can be attained through use of an antenna having the highest sensitivity.

  • This study was conducted to develop a grain moisture meter using microwave free space transmission technique at X-band frequency. The 10.5GHz microwave oscillator using a dielectric resonator was designed and fabricated to transmit electromagnetic wave through standard horn antenna to a sample holder with the wetted Hwasung and Chuchung rough rice(12.00∼26.25%). To detect the output voltage of transmitted wave from receiving horn antenna, the detector was composed of shottkey diode and RF impedance matching circuit. The regression model for measurement of grain moisture content was developed. Its correlation coefficient and standard error of prediction (SEP) were found to be 0.9882 and 0.657 respectively between measure and predicted moisture contents.

  • In this paper, using optical effect of characteristics of GaAs compound, two potential application of optical controlled GaAs MESFET are demonstrated` detector, microwave amplifier gain control. These lead to the possibility of the interaction with optical devices. The preliminary experiments show the light induced voltage, the increase in the drain currnet and the change in the microwave scattering parameters of GaAs MESFET under optical illumination(He-Ne laser). And imcrowave amplifier gain is round to be varied with changing in intensity of optical illumination.

  • This paper presents a new active antenna consisting of a microstrip patch for the passive radiator, a mixer for frequency conversion, a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) and a phase detector for phase control. The microwave signal frequency has been converted into intermediate frequency (IF) on the antenna elements by the mixer. The active antenna consists of two ports, the IF port has a transmitted IF signal via power combined to the baseband and the dc control port is under the control of the phase-detector. The input voltage of the VCO is controlled by the phase detector. The scan range of the array is determined by the phase detector and the VCO and is obtained between 30$^{\circ}$ and - 30$^{\circ}$
