Design of Microprocessor-Based Measuring Instrument for the Silent Period of Masseter Muscle (마이크로프로세서에 의한 교근의 휴지기 측정장치의 설계)

  • The measurement of the silent period of Masseter muscle is very useful diagnostic method of TMJ syndrome. In this paper, we design a very convenient and very low-priced medical instrument for dental research which does not need gain control to each patient for measuring the silent period and the data processing time is very short. The result of SP measurement using this instrument is 20-30ms in normal subjects and about 60ms in TMJ patient, and the data processing time is 0.5 second.

  • In this contribution, we design and implement an SPI hardware interface for the microprocessor to communicate with the MMC (Multi-Media Card) in an embedded system. Proposed architecture is compatible with the APB in AMBA bus architecture. Embedding OS in an embedded system means a big burden in terms of hardware and software ending up with performance decline. In this paper, we adopt the concept of SPI communication without using OS in the embedded system and implement in a form of FPGA chip. The designed SPI module was automatically synthesized, placed, and routed. Implementation was performed through the Altera FPGA and well operated at 25MHz clock frequency, which satisfied our target speed.

  • Floating point arithmetic in microprocessor is the computation of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of floating point data to improve accuracy. In general, when designing a processor, floating point instructions are often excluded because of its complexity and only integer instructions are provided. However, in order to carry out the computations for not only engineering and technical operations but also artificial intelligence and neural networks that are in the spotlight today, floating point operations must be included. In this paper, we design a 32-bit ARMv4 family of processors with floating-point arithmetic instructions using VHDL and verify with ModelSim. As a result, ARM's floating point instructions are successfully executed.

  • Wireless sensor networks achieve environment monitoring and controlling through use of small devices of low cost and low power. Such network is comprised of several sensor nodes, each having a microprocessor, sensor, actuator and wired/wireless transceiver inside a small device. In this paper, we employ the sensor networks in order to design and implement a real-time vehicle safety system. Such system can inform the safe velocity in a specific weather condition to drivers in advance through analyzing the weather data collected from sensor networks. As a result, the drivers can prevent effectively accidents by controlling their car speed.

  • For the satisfying performance of a oil lubricator, design of a oil controller for the system which meets the required specifications and its supporting hardware that keep their functioning is important. Among the hardware of a control system, oil system are most vulnerable to malfunction. Thus it is necessary to keep track of accurate and reliable oil readings for good fusion oil lubricator performance. In case of oil lubricator, data loss, ssr trigger error faults, they are detected by examining the data system output values and the major values of the system, and then the faults are recognized by the analysis of symptoms of faults. If necessary electronic-sensor values are synthesized according to the types of faults, and then they are used for the controller instead of the raw data. In this paper, a fast-32bit cpu microprocessor applied to the control of flexible link system with the sensor fault problems in the error modulo for exact positioning to show the applicability. It is shown that the fusion oil lubricator can provide a satisfactory loop performance even when the sensor faults occure.

Design of an Absolute Location and Position Measuring System for a Mobile Robot

  • This paper focuses on a development of a sensor system measuring locations of a vehicle to localize a mobile robot while it tracks on the track (location sensor) . Also it focuses on a system configuration identifying the vehicle's orientation and distance from the object while it is stationary at certain station (position sensor) . As for the location sensor it consists of a set of sensors with a combined guiding and counting sensor, and an address-coded sensor to localize the vehicle while moving on the rail. For the position sensor a PSD (Position Sensitive Device) sensor with photo-switches sensor to measure the offset and orientation of the vehicle at each station is introduced. Both sensor systems are integrated with a microprocessor as a data relay to the main computer controlling the vehicle. The location sensor system is developed and its performance for a mobile robot is verified by experiments. The position measuring system is proposed and is robust to the environmental variation. Moreover, the two kinds of sensor systems guarantee a low cost application and high reliability.

  • This paper proposes the Doppler frequency tracking system by the optimum synchronization technique which compensates the frequency shifts caused by satellite movement in a coherent digital satellite communication system. A Doppler frequency shift caused by satellite movements and the design theories of the optimum synchronization system are mathematically described. Based on this theory, a Doppler frequency tracking system is implemented via digital signal processing techniques utilizing a DSP chip, RAMs, PROMs, and a 80286 microprocessor. The performance of the designed system was evaluated through the experiments with the INTELSATVA satellite.

  • An RSFQ (Rapid Single Flux Quantum) counter can be used as a frequency divider that was an essential part of a programmable voltage standard chip. The voltage standard chip is composed of two circuit parts, a counter and an antenna Analog signal of tens to hundreds ㎓ may be applied to a finline antenna part. This analog signal can be converted to the stream of SFQ voltage pulses by a DC/SFQ circuit. The number of voltage pulses can be reduced by 2n times when they pass through a counter that is composed of n T Flip-Flops (Toggle Flip-Flop). Such a counter can be used not only as a frequency divider, but also to build a programmable voltage standard chip. So, its application range can be telecommunication, high speed RAM, microprocessor, etc. In this work, we have used Xic, WRspice, and L-meter to design an RSFQ counter. After circuit optimization, we could obtain the bias current margins of the T Flip-Flop circuit to be above 31% Our RSFQ counter circuit designs were based on the 1 ㎄/$\textrm{cm}^2$ niobium trilayer technology.

  • In order to establish the design technique of the robust current controller in d.c series wound motor driver system, this paper proposes a method of the compensated Bang-Bang current control using d.c series wound motor driver system under the improperly variable load to get minimum time for the torque control. The compensated Bang-Bang current controller structure is simpler than that of PID plus Bang-Bang controller. This paper shows that a general 16 bits microprocessor is efficiently used to implement such an algorithm. The calculation time of software is extremely small when compared with that of conventional PID plus Bang-Bang controller. Both nonlinear operating characteristics of digital switching elements and describing function methods are used for the analysis and synthesis. Real-time implementation of the compensated Bang-Bang current controller is achieved. The concept of design strategy of the control and the PWM waveform generation algorithms are presented in this paper.

  • The four wing unmanned aerial vehicle owns the characteristics of small size, light weight, convenient operation and well stability. But it is easily disturbed by external environmental factors during flight with these disadvantages of short endurance and poor attitude solving ability. For solving these problems, a microprocessor based on STM32 chip is designed and the overall development is completed by the resources such as built-in timer and multi-function mode general-purpose input/output provided by the master micro controller unit, together with radio receiver, attitude meter, barometer, electronic speed control and other devices. The unmanned aerial vehicle can be remotely controlled and send radio waves to its corresponding receiver, control the analog level change of its corresponding channel pins. The master control chip can analyze and process the data to send multiple sets pulse signals of pulse width modulation to each electronic speed control. Then the electronic speed control will transform different pulse signals into different sizes of current value to drive the motor located in each direction of the frame to generate different rotational speed and generate lift force. To control the body of the unmanned aerial vehicle, so as to achieve the operator's requirements for attitude control, the PID controller based on Kalman filter is used to achieve quick response time and control accuracy. Test results show that the design is feasible.
