This study analyzes the design performance of a combined system of a recuperated cycle micro gas turbine (MGT) and a bottoming organic Rankine cycle (ORC) adopting refrigerant (R123) as a working fluid. In contrast to the steam bottoming Rankine cycle, the ORC optimizes the combined system efficiency at a higher evaporating pressure. The ORC recovers much greater MGT exhaust heat than the steam Rankine cycle (much lower stack temperature), resulting in a greater bottoming cycle power and thus a higher combined system efficiency. The optimum MGT pressure ratio of the combined system is very close to the optimum pressure ratio of the MGT itself. The ORC's power amounts to about $25\%$ of MGT power. For the MGT turbine inlet temperature of $950^{\circ}C$ or higher, the combined system efficiency, based on shaft power, can be higher than $45\%$.
The high fuel flexibility of Micro Gas Turbine(MGT) has boosted their use in a wide variety of applications. Recently, the demand for biogas generated from the digestion of organic wastes and landfill as a fuel for gas turbines has increased. We researched the influence of firing landfill gas(LFG) on the performance and operating characteristics of a micro gas turbine combined heat and power system. $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ simultaneous recovery process has been developed for field plant scale to provide an isothermal, low operating cost method for carrying out the contaminants removal in Land Fill Gas(LFG) by liquid phase catalyst for introduce into the green house for the purpose of $CO_2$ rich cultivation of the plants. Methane purification and carbon dioxide stripping by muti panel autocirculation bubble lift column reactor utilizing Fe-EDTA was conducted for evaluate optimum conditions for land fill gas. Based on inflow rate of LFG as 0.207 $m^3$/min, 5.5 kg/$cm^2$, we designed reactor system for 70% $CH_4$ and 27% $CO_2$ gas introduce into MGT system with $H_2S$ 99% removal efficiency. A green house designed for four different carbon dioxide concentration from ambient air to 1500 ppm by utilizing the exhaust gas and hot water from MGT system.

In this paper, we propose to study the possibility of using a photovoltaic system combined with a high speed micro-turbine. This hybrid system can work as stand-alone system or grid connected system as it will be a part of a micro-grid. Initially, we propose Matlab/Simulink dynamic models of photovoltaic, micro turbine systems and supercapacitor. Then, we carry out a simulation comparison of the two systems, this is, with supercapacitor and without supercapacitor bank. We show that supercapacitor bank as short-term storage device was necessary to reduce the fast fluctuation of power in the case of sensitive loads. It is verified the simulation results of Matlab/Simulink based hybrid power system represent the effectiveness of the suggested hybrid power system.
As the distributed generation becomes more reliable and economically feasible, it is expected that a higher application of the distributed generation units would be interconnected to the existing grids. This new generation technology is linked to a large number of factors like economics and performance, safety and reliability, market regulations, environmental issues, or grid connection constrains. KEPCO (Korea Electric Power Corporation) is performing the project to develope the Distributed Micro Gas Turbine (MGT) technolgies by using Swine BIO-ENERGY. This paper describes the plans and strategies for the renewable energy of MGT on actual grid-connection under Korean situations. KEPCO also, has a research plan on bio-gas pretreatment system applicable to our domestic swine renewable resources and is performing concept design of pilot plant to test grid operation. In addition, this testing will be conducted in order to respond to a wide variety of needs for application and economic evaluation in the field of On-site generation.

The effects of applying the micro CHP system to the domestic sector in Korea were investigated using annual cooling and heating demand data. Four prime movers, micro gas turbine, PEMFC, gas engine and Stirling engine, were compared for three operational modes. Two way buy-back was assumed for both electricity and heat. The Stirling engine gave the lowest $CO_2$ emission per energy for 300kWh monthly electricity production. However, PEMFC became more effective when considering PURPA criteria. PEMFC generated the least greenhouse gas with higher electrical efficiency for cooling. The Stirling engine, however, became competitive for heating with higher total efficiency.

The design of the fuel injector is one of the important operating factors that determine the extent of mixing of air and fuel in an MEMS gas turbine engine. In this study, we consider a system with three inlet ports with each port having multiple injectors. We perform a parametric study by varying the arrangement of fuel injectors and difference of ratio of fuel supply. The results are presented in terms of the premixed flow distribution and equivalence ratio.

The gas turbine engine performance is greatly relied on its component performance characteristics. Generally, acquisition of component maps is not easy for engine purchasers because it is an expensive intellectual property of gas turbine engine supplier. In the previous work, the maps were inversely generated from engine performance deck data, but this method is limited to obtain the realistic maps due to calculated performance deck data. Therefore this work proposes newly to generate more realistic compressor map from experimental performance test data. And then a realistic compressor map can be generated form those processed data using the proposed extended scaling method at each rotational speed. Evaluation can be made through comparison between performance analysis results using the performance simulation program including the generated compressor map and on-condition monitoring performance data.
